The analysis ranks organizations whose PAC or employees and their families made contributions to candidates, party committees, other PACs, outside spending groups, or 527s. Vice President Kamala Harris has raised more than $1 billion since entering the race just three months ago, according to Open Secrets. Corporations and banks including Citigroup, Marriott, and Goldman Sachs are reviewing policies for campaign donations after violence at the U. S. Capitol.

Trump’s richest donors have contributed significantly to the 2024 campaign, with 18 of the top 25 individual donors giving exclusively or mostly to Trump. The Mercer family gave over $15 million to support Trump’s run, and their considerable investment in the right-wing news site Breitbart was influential in promoting it. Other Trump supporters contributing big sums during the third quarter included billionaire former Marvel executive Ike Perlmutter and his wife, Laura, who donated nearly $5 million late last year. Marriott’s PAC, funded by employee donations, gave more than $410, 000 in the last election cycle, according to Federal Election Commission data.

Some traditional Republican donors who are uncomfortable with Trump are focusing their energies on down-ballot campaigns, but Mr. Trump has, since 2016, focused on down-ballot campaigns. The Marriott hotel chain will be suspending donations to GOP senators who objected to certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral campaign. Elon Musk, Tesla CEO, and hotel tycoons J. W. and Richard Marriott have each donated $750000 to the superPAC supporting Mitt Romney. Marriott is among a growing list of companies suspending donations to campaigns of lawmakers who voted against certifying Joe Biden’s election as president.
