Why Did Tommy Get Written Off Brothers And Sisters?

Balthazar Getty is officially leaving "Brothers and Sisters," and his character Tommy Walker's departure will be addressed in the premiere episode airing September 26. Multiple sources indicate that Getty's exit is not due to a single issue, but rather a mix of budgetary and storyline factors. Tommy has long been viewed as a disposable character among the Walker siblings. Although the storyline had previously woven a rich tapestry around him, fans were left puzzled by his abrupt disappearance. Getty, who appeared in fewer episodes last season, will not return, confirming that his exit was a creative decision by the show's producers.

Tommy's character, who was co-President of Walker's Landing and Ojai Foods, faced significant turmoil after embezzling $2 million from the company. His actions have had lasting repercussions for the Walker family. Additionally, executive producer Alison Schapker suggested that despite his exit, there was potential for a return under different circumstances. Tensions have surrounded Tommy's relationships, particularly with his ex-wife Julia, and personal issues, including past drug problems, may have influenced the decision.

Ultimately, removing Tommy's regular presence allows the show to explore new dynamics, making room for other storylines to develop.

In the episode "Compromises," Sarah's divorce from Joe becomes final when she drunkenly signs the divorce papers following a night out singing karaoke with Kevin and Scotty's friends, providing the needed courage. Sarah Walker, the eldest of the Walker siblings, was married to Joe Whedon for a decade, and they have two children, Paige and Cooper. Why Did They Cancel Brothers And Sisters?

ABC officially announced the cancellation of the family drama "Brothers and Sisters" after five seasons, with no sixth season to follow. Despite initially positive ratings that led to the ordering of additional episodes, viewership declined significantly throughout Season 5, particularly towards the end. The show's finale aired recently, and it did not receive a proper sendoff, leading many to speculate that the producers anticipated this outcome.

The series, which focused on the wealthy Walker family and the complications arising from the death of their patriarch, faced challenges including budget issues, noted by insiders. Despite a brief renewal for a shortened Season 5, it ultimately concluded due to its inability to maintain sufficient ratings. Rumors of its cancellation circulated for some time before the official announcement. The ensemble cast, including Sally Field, has since reflected on the show, with actor Dave Annable expressing a desire for a reunion.

The series originally debuted in 2006 but struggled to redefine itself after Season 3, leading to its eventual exit from the television landscape in 2011, marking the end of a significant chapter for ABC's programming.

Does Simon Return?

In a related note, Netflix confirmed that Regé-Jean Page, who portrayed Simon Basset in "Bridgerton," will not reprise his role for Season 2 or Season 3 of the show.

This announcement sparked a mix of good and bad news for fans. The good news is that Page's iconic character won't be re-cast, ensuring the integrity of the role. However, his absence does raise questions regarding the future of Daphne Bridgerton, played by Phoebe Dynevor. Despite speculations about his return, Page has firmly stated that he will not appear in any upcoming seasons, marking the end of Simon's arc in the series.

Did Justin And Rebecca Date In Real Life?

Emily VanCamp and Dave Annable, who portrayed siblings Rebecca and Justin on "Brothers and Sisters," had undeniable chemistry both on-screen and off. They dated for about a year from 2006 to 2007, shortly after Ian Somerhalder's character was killed off. In 2015, VanCamp noted that she and Somerhalder remained good friends. Interestingly, VanCamp and Annable's romantic connection influenced the show, leading writers to reveal that Rebecca was not, in fact, Justin’s half-sister, allowing the characters to date on-screen as well.

Their fictional relationship culminated in marriage in the show's fourth season, after overcoming various challenges. However, the timing of Kitty's surprise appearance at their wedding before they said "I do" raised some eyebrows. Following their on-screen marriage, Justin had several relationships in the fifth season, including with a woman going through a divorce. In real life, VanCamp and Somerhalder did not reconnect romantically until years later, eventually marrying in June 2023 in Big Sur, California. Overall, the series beautifully intertwined the complex realities of love and relationships, as characters navigated romantic entanglements while reflecting the actors’ real-life journeys.

Why Was Tommy Written Off Brothers And Sisters?

Balthazar Getty's departure from "Brothers and Sisters" has been attributed to several factors, including budgetary constraints and storyline considerations, rather than a single issue. His character, Tommy Walker, will be explained in the premiere episode airing on September 26, but Getty will not appear, with his exit framed as a "creative decision." Tommy has consistently been viewed as the most expendable sibling, allowing the show to explore new directions without his regular presence.

Rumors around Getty's exit had been circulating for some time, especially following his reduced number of appearances in the previous season. The actor's character was embroiled in various illegal activities, including embezzlement, which contributed to his strained family relationships, particularly with his father's former mistress, Holly. Addressing his gradual descent and its impact on the family dynamics, co-showrunner Alison Schapker noted that Tommy's character was on a downward spiral throughout the series.

As the series progressed into its final season, significant changes occurred, including a shakeup in the cast. With Getty's exit confirmed, fans questioned the implications for the narrative and family interactions, particularly considering Tommy's past struggles with drugs and personal turmoil. Ultimately, his absence opens the door for new storytelling possibilities within the show's framework.

  • Mistrial then dismissed because of lack of evidence. Sounds like she needs to fight the state attorney. It’s their job to prove guilt. Clearly they didn’t. All I wanna know is if he actually fired the weapon. People keep talking about Simone but forget this guy was active military. That plays a part too.

  • I hate that question “do you believe that Simone Biles’s celebrity had anything to do with the judge’s decision?” That was a dumb question. The first trial ended in a mistrial and the 2nd judge dismissed for lack of evidence, so it seems to me that the prosecution didn’t have a strong case. I’m so sorry for your loss, but you need to be mad at the ppl that couldn’t put together a strong case.

  • I’m not sure what happened but this is from a New York Times article “The authorities said in a statement at the time of Mr. Biles-Thomas’s arrest that “an uninvited group” entered the house around 11:30 p.m. the night of the shooting and that “an altercation ensued between the uninvited guests and those who were invited.” Shots were fired, striking “multiple” people, including the three who died, they said.” So the question was whether it was in self-defense or not.

  • The mom is so upset because she knows he killed her son. Biles’ defense team accidentally leaked papers to the jury from the first trial that showed they were considering arguing self-defense (meaning they considered admitting he shot them, but in self defense) – this is the reason for the mistrial when this was originally tried in court, those papers would influence the jury’s decision.

  • It’s hard to determine anything at a party that happened, people can show up and leave and no one can have a clue of what transpired unless it was the victim(s) if they survive and talk about the incident. I was a juror in a case similar to this, you do have to base everything off evidence, if there’s anything that’s not connecting then it’s a hard choice.

  • I don’t think he did it but I do think they need to find the real criminal Edit: I know the families want to know who did it but their not enough evidence like they should check who at the party has a legal or illegal use of a gun I think the police new to look into it more and find The real person behind the death of these three guys

  • This is a BLACK young man, and his sister is a BLACK young woman. THEY DON’T GIVE A DAM ABOUT HER CELEBRITY STATUS. There was not no evidence to suggest there was any involvement. They would have loved to had thrown his ass in jail. The reason being, he did not do what he was being accused of, that is a possibility.

  • Everyone saying “Simone has nothing to do with this” yes she does. She has everything to do with it. Her brother is involved and instead of helping the victims family or coming out with a statement proving her brothers innocence she’s just in the quiet and in the dark because she doesn’t want to ruin her image.

  • This happens every dam day across the world in basically every court (I had my assaulter walk free when I gave enough evidence to put him away for life. The police just didn’t care as was LGBT+) but we only hear about this because the defendant has a famous sister. I really hope the family can somehow force a confession or find new evidence so the case may be re-opened as that judge clearly doesn’t care about the lives of those lost.

  • Duh!! Ya come on, ya know the reason why he was cleared. The man comes from money. He’s a black man, any other black man without money is thrown under the jail for Resisting arrest. He kills 3 people and there isn’t enough evidence….besides all the people who were at the party…. ?? It’s money, it’s power.

  • F**ing ruining his sister’s reputation smh, whether he’s guilty or not he should never have been involved enough to be brought to court. Money can’t buy class, but lots of people needs to be shamed enough, so they learn how to behave. It baffles me how just being at a party can make you a murder suspect😳😳…

  • Let’s look at the both of there past and we will see, more about the case if you don’t have no witnesses and it was a party seems strange or everyone knew you was the agresser, police just don’t let people off of murder that easy, yes the mother is hurt but sometimes you have to do a better job at raising your sons and daughters, I am sorry for her lose and hope justice has been served right.
