Jeffrey Dahmer and his brother David Dahmer were separated for much of their childhood following their parents’ divorce. However, few people know that Jeffrey had a younger sibling, David, who was born nearly seven years after Jeffrey. David was born to Lionel and Joyce Dahmer in December 1966 and was named by his brother, Jeffrey. His parents’ marriage had already been fractured at this point, with his father staying away from home for work.

Dahmer changed his name after his brother’s arrest for murder in 1991. According to Distractify, Jeffrey was actually responsible for naming his little brother, but it’s unclear how close of a relationship they had during David’s formative years. Their relationship reportedly suffered slightly due to Jeffrey’s brother David changing his name.

Jeffrey Dahmer did not kill his father or brother, and his most of his murders were born out of a sexual desire and resentment. When he was arrested in the early 1990s, David didn’t visit his brother in prison and didn’t appear for court.
