This is magical. I was in middle school when Mullin and St John’s were on the scene in the explosive Big East although I grew up in Maryland and an ACC guy there was something very special about that era, in both conferences, and Mully was one of my favorite players for many reasons and he has a great respect and knowledge about the history of basketball and how things were then especially the differences to today like a sophomore playing varsity in NYC was special and chucking a guy coming through the paint, which I wonder if the younger generation of players even understand, and they aren’t even saying that their era was better or anything like that but it was definitely a tougher era of basketball and they were required to play a certain way and that included a level of physicality that I’m sure the young fellas of today could handle but the reality is that they are not required to play basketball this way. Gotta give a SO to Pearl and the Big East basketball because along with the ACC and the other conferences too, it was an incredible experience to watch these players compete in the best college basketball games I’ve ever seen and that goes back to the late 1970s. It was Magic and Bird, then Jordan and the many others who were making the NBA competitive like never before but the 1980s college basketball was the best of times and the NBA was second class for me and the many other players and fans of the game and Chris Mullin was an incredible all around player, not just one of the best shooters of all time, and the game has changed and I love Steph, Joker, Kobe, Luka and the countless others of 21st century but to those who have experienced the best era of basketball – 1980-1998 – we all wish we could go back in time and see and live through the joy and glory, and heartache, but nothing lasts forever…
