I think it’s good. I just wish that they aged up Penny and her friends. In episode one, during the shopping scene they pan the camera down and back up Penny. (which is a shorthand for “This character is attractive”) Then we find out that they’re still in middle school. Granted, for some reason Disney doesn’t want their leads to be over 14 but they’re written like they’re 16-18, which is better, but it still feels…uncomfortable, especially because it’s partly banking off of nostalgia. Most of us who watched the original series are in their 20s-30s now.
At first I did not like the show because I thought it was cringe. But within the first two minutes I was laughing when wizard Kelly told them people to do the wobble for a stimulus check. I love that they are still using guest stars because honestly they are the most iconic part of the series, and luckily we have no shortage this go around. It’s a solid reboot. I’m still mad about Dijonay and Maya’s appearance and portrayal as DSBW, but per usual nobody listens to Darkskin Black women so here’s to another decade of silencing and gaslighting us🙄
I definitely do agree with the concept that a persons writing style does change over time. As little kid I really didn’t like writing but I love telling stories. Of course back then I constantly did the self insert character and had a weird Obsession with making characters cry for no reason at the end of the story. I did end up writing a book called short stories to the eyes of artism, back in my Junior year of high school. Now days I know that book is Filled to the brim with mistakes. While over the years I’v being using YouTube as a medium to improve my writing and storytelling skills. I do have a new Trilogy plan called A strange New World. It’s basically a classic isekai series, just on the surface tense.
Idk, I can tell that it has lots of potential to be really good. But sometimes it feels, forced? The show can be funny asf, but sometimes the vibe was just off not sure how to articulate it. You can tell that this show is adhearing to the understanding of the current generation the older viewers have. While still trying to appeal to, well said current generation. That causes a rift in the relatability. It probably icks me more since I am 17. Not saying it’s terrible or anything, but it feels all over the place somehow? You can have your characters be down to earth more, they don’t gotta be yelling or acting like caricatures too much yk? They’ll probably get a grip on it as the show goes on, but for now it’s mid with good potential for great for me.

But the biggest one is Penny’s age. She became 16 at the end of the Proud Family Movie from original show, but for some reason she’s 14 again. Unlike the Animaniacs reboot that has a ton of continuity.
when I watched the show as a kid I really liked the theme of it, but the main problem I had with the entire original show was all of Penny’s “friends”. however when I watched the reboot I was surprised that some of them actually changed, Especially Dijaonay! in the original show, Lacienega was a rude narcissistic (and kinda racist) dramaqueen to penny and always acted like an angel or the victim when others are around. they didn’t really change her character in the reboot, but I am SO THANKFUL that everyone calls her out more on her bs in the new show. everyone agreed (and still agree) that Dijaonay was the worst, she constantly lied, ditched, and neglected penny and always ended with the “you’ll always be my girl” ending, in the new show i was even more shocked that Dijaonay changed. Dijaonay may be a gossiper now and ditched like twice in show but unlike before, she actually defends penny from Lacienega a lot more now and is comforting her (like how penny got that voice change) I’m so happy they made this change zoey and penny didn’t really change that much but are still redeemable characters, I also really like what they did to Michael, he’s like the best out of all of them in that group. thanks for reading my trash opinion!

Also, of course it takes place during junior prom, since Kim and Ron are juniors during season 3, not seniors. There are no retcons. Unlike the new proud family series that clearly retconned the events of the proud family movie.

It’s good! I personally prefer the OG’s first episode to the reboot’s because I felt the jokes and dialogue were tighter. That’s just me, though. Honestly I don’t like that they dropped Sticky and replaced with two … honestly quite boring characters, the “yeesh” boy and the “foil to Penny” (I honestly forgot both their names), like I was waiting for Dijonnay and Sticky to be sorta-together cos remember he did get jealous when he thought she’d moved on to Duke but stopped when that turned out to be untrue and honestly their banter was hilarious. The ones they kept, Sugar Mama and Papi in particular is enough to keep me perusal … but seriously why did they take Bobby’s Afro?! 😵😵😵
She-Ra and DuckTales have definitely been the best examples of reboots to me, and I emphasize these two since I’ve devoted more rewatches with them. But Voltron has proven just as successful too. I have high hopes for The Proud Family, and it’s nice to have a popular show of black heritage back, and in a more mature light.

I didn’t have Disney website, or CN & Nick, growing up, so The Proud Family was on a long list of shows I usually only got to see if I was at one of my cousin’s houses. Now it’s on a long list of shows on Disney+ I gotta watch when I’m done with all the other sh*t I’m either currently perusal or haven’t gotten to yet. (having so much good, easily available, content is both a blessing & a curse, I guess. lol)
There was a lot of great stuff about Louder and prouder. It’s more progressive, A lot of characters look great, and it definitely does well as a sequel to the original show. However, I do have to say that you didn’t really bring up any of the negative aspects of the show in this article. At the very least the first two episodes seem to suffer from what I like to call “2020 Cartoon Syndrome” where the majority of the people on the writing staff are 50+ and very out of touch with what actual teenagers or children are like. The jokes are very much giving me Big Mouth, Party Aunt, Brickleberry, and whatever other adult cartoons you can think of that try to make a relevant joke but miss it by about 100 miles. I genuinely believe the writers did their best and tried to reach the correct audience, but the humor in the first two episodes just makes me roll my eyes every five minutes. Saying that, episodes 3 and 4 are MUCH better with the humor. Like, insanely better.
Having seen the entirety of seasons 1 & 2 now, this is an honestly fantastic reboot that’s doing some things other Disney shows dare not do. It’s an important show to minorities, and the sad part is I am certain it’ll get itself cancelled. Its viewership is already low. Please go watch it, get educated, you won’t regret it.
Good Review. I’ll admit that I’m not a fan of Penny calling her dad by his first name the first episode and the joke of her not knowing Prince is a little contrived. I’m sure the show will be as good as it was in its initial run, but I like a lot of people would have preferred that Penny her friends actually be grown up, maybe we could have followed them in college or perhaps seen their children’s adventures of growing instead of aging them down. I have the same issue with the Rugrats reboot.
The only thing I didn’t like is their still sort of toxic dynamic and Dijonay chasing after another boy who has no interest, I hope they don’t make her do that the entire season or at least make a twist of it like her and KG actually get together instead of the same cat and mouse routine. I can’t believe they kept the colorism 20 years later, look the show seems fun but this is sickening and there is no excuse. They kept the gross sisters and didn’t revamp them, they are still aggressive, ‘masculine’ and ‘ghetto’. Dijonay doesn’t even have clothes that fit. So far the only nice more traditional ‘feminine’ women who smile more are light skinned not dark skinned and don’t have dreads/more textured hair.
I don’t care for the proud family reboot but I still love the original, although I do wish suga mama and Papi would call it quits. Suga mama doesn’t deserve that crap. I have never liked him he’s just way too degrading for absolutely no reason, I wish I could hop in the tv and help her out that and in my opinion the Boulivardezes are just as bad for saying nothing. I am curious about peebo though and the chang triplets maybe a few other OG characters what about Dr Payne or Bobby I don’t know I’m curious about other characters but I didn’t care for it, I had no idea Michael was Michael until he gave laCianega the makeover I had to so a double take with that one although I kinda thought Michael was very flamboyant in the original.
The movie is removed from Canon as it took place in Penny’s head after he final episode of the OG Series she went to bed and had a dream where she is 15 and then 16 then got a driver’s license unlike a certain yellow sponge we all know then the dream was changed to a nightmare and erased from Continuity she woke up from first dream in the revival episode 1 and then nightmare later thats my TedTalk.
Oh man one favorite moment from the show was when Penny was choosing a basketball player to shoot from half-court, and Kobe Bryant (May he RIP) showed up and had a conversation with Dijonay in Italian. Everyone’s getting a designed change and I wonder if other side characters will make a return with altered looks, like the Chang triplets and Kwok. And since they did make an episode in the previous series about hate against Muslims since it was relevant back then, they might do one with Asians in this series since there’s the whole Asian hate crimes. Oh yea since the show ended and before it came back, Obama became president so I wonder if he or Michelle will be mentioned in the show as well
I loved Proud Family as a kid, as as good as the reboot may be I think as a grown man I just don’t want to watch a show about a bunch of teenagers being all bruh finna sheesh no cap and posting on instagram about Cardi B. I’ll miss out on Oscar’s zany schemes but I it’s a price I’ll have to pay to maintain my sanity. Maybe I’ll rewatch the old stuff and see if I find it unrelatable now or what, and see if that makes me want to give this a shot.
Honestly, I seriously enjoyed the first two episodes of Proud Family louder and prouder. While obviously not perfect by any means as well as having some flaws here and there with certain jokes also Maya character I feel needs some bit of work on her, I don’t hate her character and I get what the creators are trying to do with her being like a bit of rival/foul for Penny someone to call her out & such while also being something of a friend-enemie since you see her being apart of the group within the second episode, either way I think some flaws or problems could easily improve as more episodes continue along with the writing becoming more grounded. Overall this Proud Family reboot is already looking to be one of those good cartoon reboots that kept the charm & original feel from the original show while also offering something new and fresh at the same time.
I liked some stuff and others I didn’t, it seems like they’re trying to find a balance between the OG audience and the new audience, which I can appreciate, also I’ve seen people bring up how toxic the main characters are and I definitely see that now, also I don’t think “sheesh” is that bad compared to “zang” lol
The Proud Family was one of my fave cartoons growing up, and this reboot more than did it justice. What really hit me with Louder and Prouder is the characters somehow feeling more natural as Zoomers instead of Millennials. It seems wild to say, but the reboot has just grounded the cast far more than they ever were before. The best I can describe it is that it feels like the show is just… walking on less eggshells. It’s like having your first real conversation with somebody you already liked, y’know? Also, I no joke prefer the new style and designs over the originals. The Proud Family was always a beautifully animated show, but WOW. The dynamism and polish is just phenomenal here. It definitely would have been nice for the characters to remain 16 and get more outfit variation, especially considering how incredibly Michael was re-designed. I’m still happy with what we got, though.
I feel like the first episode wasn’t that special to older fans because it was done to introduce the characters to new viewers and establish a time, place and a outline of the dynamics between the cast, but even tho it was a little slow and not as eventful or extremely funny,it was still great and a wonderful start for the series with out getting extremely plain.
i love the fact that oscar got a flip phone still. from perusal the series, you can tell he still holds some older beliefs n allat. meanwhile, trudy got herself a touchscreen phone and that tell’s me she a bit better with adjusting to change. it’s a good detail that says a lot about the characters and also reminds me of my own parents. while my dad ain’t got no flip phone, he still got some old ass beliefs and my momma is adjustin to the changes wit my generation fairly well. i always loved this show bc its accurate to the point where you think yo family bein spied on to make it. 💀
We can always pretend that Penny and her friends are 16 even if the show beats us over the head with the fact that they’re actually 14. Sorry but in order for my brain to make sense of the ‘floating timeline’ cause we all know that’s what this is and a lot of shows do this kinda thing, I have to suspend my disbelief that Penny and pals are 14, not 16 and keep convincing myself that they are 16 because if this is a sequel of sorts and if Bebe and Cece (probably spelled their names wrong, sorry)look like theyre at bit older (to where theyre doing more walking than crawling) then why not just come out and say all the characters are older. I mean I’m fine with a floating timeline kinda thing (I can even imagine that in the Proud Family universe, time works a bit differently there than our timelines lol) so the girls can be 16 and the technology of that world could easily have advanced pretty quickly.
I love the updated look, but by the 7th episode I found the writing choices in some episodes to be somewhat annoying/corny. It was like someone was trying way too hard to fit “hip lingo” every other zang scene. If I hear “Zang” one more time…I’m flipping tables. I’m walking in random homes…amidst family din din and flipping tables I also feel like a lot of scenarios were unnecessarily unrealistic, like with the high tech camo suit Penny wore to sneak in school and grab her phone or the having a basketball tournament on another planet just for a Space Jam reference. When we gon’ learn to leave Space Jam alone, ugh 😫 “Groundedness” is hard to critique when wacky stuff happened in the first series, but some scenes were more of a reach than others.
Idk it’s okay so far just two episodes came out it’s my favorite show and a huge part of my childhood. But it’s trying to appeal to the Gen-Z era now. It’s a good continuation of the show but maybe they starting them off in middle school and as the seasons go far high school will be the next option. They truly banking off the nostalgia the animation is polished. The theme song is not my style even if it’s a remix of the original I guess it will grow on me. I just hope it doesn’t go all woke on me I understand Michael being gay he had a backstory. But just don’t throw too much in there trying to push an agenda and I’m good. So far I give it an 8/10.
I personally do not like it at all. I was excited to see what it would be like renewed, but after a few episodes I realized it did not live up to what I was hoping for. I thought it would be funny, but its not. At least not to me. The characters don’t even feel like they actually learn anything or are that enjoyable. Some of them are fine, but I mostly do not enjoy them. It’s fine if you like it, to each their own and for different reasons we like or dislike a show or movie and such. But these are just things in the show that I did not like and that’s fine.
The reboot is garbage. 🚮 The show used to be funny, relatible, And taught kids vauable lessons about growing up. it is now Overly political. It’s filled with too much celebrity idol worship socail media refrences and Sexual Innuendo. The only plot is abrasively and mind numbingly pushing “the message”🌈😷🧑🤝🧑💉💪♀️ I mostly didn’t like how they shifted the family dynamics. Remember when Oscar was a loving father who supported his family with his dream of making candy While Trudy was a loving wife who supported him and stayed home with the children ? I remember their episode when she literally couldn’t be away from the children . well no 🤷🏾♂️ Trudy actually makes all the money and bought the house. How do I know that? You ask? because they explicitly tell me 5 min into the first episode. Why does that even matter? Why is that something she would berayed him about? Oscar is now a weak, usless, lazy baffoon . I mean he was always the comic relief but he was still seen as a father figure. Where now he Seems like hes the butt of every joke. You’re not supposed to take him seriously. At the end when penny mad him to sit like a dog almost cried. 😭 I also didn’t like how in the 1st episode They made the 1 new dark skin girl the antagonist because she was really mean and shallow. Why introduce her like that? They had an opportunity to show that she actually was smart and an activist When she was trying to save the panda.
personally just from the first episode i hate it. everyone’s voice sounds annoying and unnatural. but my main problem is why everyone has a blaccent? not even a natural blaccent because most of it feels extremely forced. i’m not offended by it, i’m just confused onwhat they were trying to execute with that ?
The show… has become watered down and honestly more unnecessarily woke, just for the sake of being woke. Literally every other scene in the show is a forced reference to something else related to pop culture, not only that they’ve literally made Penny’s friends 10x more insufferable and Penny 10x more delusional that she needs better friends.
I did enjoy the reboot and I do want to give it a chance, but I was disappointment with LaCienga’s puberty reveal because it engaged in Latin stereotypes about bodyhair and me and my family who had watched the family when I was young and even my younger cousin were all yelling that was racist. I do wanna give benefit of the doubt that wasn’t the intention but I felt extremely uncomfortable by that scene.
It’s amazing how much they try and pull especially in the second season. They actually try to spread more racism and talk about things like slavery while getting a boatload of historical facts wrong! They try and paint the slavery issue as black and white and claim Abraham Lincoln wanted to have African Americans deported when that’s not true. I AM NOT MAKING THIS STUFF UP! They actually try and spread more anti-white propaganda in the season 2 finale.
The whole thing is terrible. Especially the episode promoting gay “marriage.” And what they did to Michael was just as bad. I seriously thought he was a new female character. Why they have to make him homosexual too? They couldn’t make him normal? Hook up with a cool female character? Maya, perhaps? They had Sticky leave town, when really they should’ve had Michael leave town. They replaced ghetto smooth Sticky with ‘ghetto gay fabulous’ Michael. That should be an insult. Maya is the best character because shes vocal and upfront. Though distant in behavior, she brings that extra boldness. Dijonay is worse than before. LaCieniga is also worse than before. The old version was better. They need to tone this show down. And get these homosexual actors and artists that do the voices out of there. Seriously, they’re butchering the show with all this propoganda and secular agendas. If this is gonna continue, they need to make some serious changes and quickly. If not, might as well ban it from TV and websites.
