The settlement will be awarded to Floyd’s family after the settlement of a civil suit brought against the city of Minneapolis and the four police officers present at the time.

The city of Minneapolis has reached a record $27 million settlement with the family of George Floyd, the unarmed US black man whose death in police custody last May sparked protests worldwide. In March 2021, about a year after Floyd’s death by a white police officer killed him by kneeling on his neck for almost nine minutes, his family reached a $27 million settlement from the city of Minneapolis. The lawyers received about 30 of the money, which is about 8. 1 million dollars.
