Exit polls show that people between the ages of 50 and 64 voted for Trump more than any other age group, with 56 supporting Trump. In October, over nine-in-ten Trump supporters said he had clearly explained his policies for addressing illegal immigration. Large majorities said the same about Joe Biden’s election. Many Americans are dropping friends and family members who have different political views during a bruising political season. Experts say we should be talking more, not less. A September report by the non-partisan Pew Research Center found that nearly 80 of Trump and Biden supporters said they had few or no friends who supported the other.
An anthropologist who studies polarization asked people why they supported Trump, and they said they said about immigration, the economy, and his “bull in a china shop” style. About two-thirds of voters ages 18 to 24 associate with the Democratic Party, compared with 34 who align with the GOP. There is a similarly large gap in the partisan affiliation of voters ages 25 to 29. As of February 2023, a DHS task force identified more than 3, 924 children separated from their parents during the Trump administration, with nearly 1, 000 children still.

Growing up in a conservative household, Shannon understands her parents’ support for Donald Trump, but since she no longer agrees with their politics, she finds it impossible to have a pleasant relationship. About 53 of Republicans ages 25 to 44 said they support Trump, while just 9 of these people said they would vote for DeSantis.
In 2024, many supporters of Trump and Biden have been repeating Trump’s yarns solemnly and solemnly. Parents, particularly male parents, voted for President-elect Donald Trump this election cycle in an ongoing show of support for the economy.

📹 How This Family Gets Along Being Trump and Biden Supporters
As the election draws nearer, politics are pulling some families apart. But the Wolfe family in Burbank, California is keeping things …
This is great. It’s important for lefties like us to remember that Trump’s supporters are real people with valid concerns. We may disagree on the best way to solve the country’s problems, or even that there are as many problems as they claim, but we can’t characterise every one of them as hateful bigots purely because of who they plan to vote for.
I’m a Democrat and people will knock down and run over my sign too. To me, this just proves people on both ends of the political divide are angry and if you disagree with others political views people react in anger. As a Democrat, I apologize to the family of this article who got to experience such hatred expressed simply by showing their support. We’re not all like this who are democrats.
Unfortunately jobs that create pollution aren’t coming back to America. Pollution is the main reason we send our production over seas. We have destroyed and polluted every country and now we are sending china into a cancer epidemic due to our production. The idea its cheaper over seas is because of regulation. Deregulation is simply ‘allow pollution’. That is the simplest you can break it down. While I am all for a change in politics in America, we need to address issues as complex arguments and not just simple single faceted problems.
My father is a card carrying republican. He votes against his own interests all the time. He’s a successful man, to give him his props. I’ve learned to love him from afar, because, unlike this father, not voting the way he does IS a reason to stop loving your child. He never graduated high school, never went to college, but he’s inherently intelligent. His pride and bigotry get in the way of his humanity though.
I know these people. I actually bought something off of them a while back. When I saw they were Trump supporters, I was instantly afraid. Afraid because my personal experience with Trump supporters were always bad. People yelling at me calling me a “Libtard,” and that I hated Trump simply because he was going to take my welfare away. (I don’t need Welfare, btw). I also have a boyfriend who was not born here, but he became a US Citizen when he was younger. So the racial stigma was something I had to prepare myself for. Though I don’t agree with your parents, and I feel like they are being deeply deceived, they seem like nice folks. Not like some of the Trump supporters I’ve experienced. Glad I saw this. Great article, too.
So after reading the comments section, Jame’s Lantz, are you glad you put this article up? Outside of financial anything coming from this article, on principle or ideal alone, are you happy with the results? Your parents look like so many of the people in my rural community, I have a feeling your parents are fucking awesome. Does it upset you that so many anti-Trump people are in the comments insulting your parents? Based on their opinion of one political figure, they assume IQ and agenda. I ask because this is the treatment the elderly of my community have been subjected to for the last two years. I find it disgusting, beyond toxic, that people would label your parents racists, bigots and fascists. I sincerely want to know, are you condescending/patronizing to your folks, rolling your eyes when they say something you perceive as racist? If they do ever say something less than sensitive is your reaction to recoil or to embrace? This isn’t meant to be mean spirited questions, I ask because my grandfather is a devout Republican and the disrespect and condescension is palpable at our family functions. Treated like someone other than a successful man who had a major role in keeping their community safe as sheriff for over a decade. Obviously since I’m here criticizing it, I’m not on board with patronizing sound minded elderly with the way the world has changed when they’re trying to point out how it hasn’t. Responsibility for your actions is still very important. A good work ethic will never be unimportant.
I followed the US election ’16 for 6 months from a south asian country (Bangladesh: Mr. Trump orders Shirts from here). Saw through the primaries, the National Conventions. I followed the MSM (CNN, FOX, CBS through youtube live streams), filled my twitter feed with the conservative and progressive sites and Politico. Laughed with the late night talk show hosts (Colbert, Seth, Trevor, Samantha) at every jokes they made. Saw SNL’s Kate McKinnon saying stuffs like ‘Can America vote already?!’ or ‘I think I’m gonna be the next President.’ I was quite sure after Obama’s mean tweet version saying ‘Atleast I was a president.’ that Donald Trump cannot win in the most possible scenarios. After the results I was searching for answers. These are the articles that explained everything so perfectly. Thanks Guardian for their impeccable documentaries.
I love you but you’ve robbed a bank. LOL. My elderly mother was supporting Trump for a long time and the more I and the rest of the kids tried to talk her out of it the more she dug her heals in. It wasn’t until his comments on that bus came out did my mother change her mind. She won’t vote for Hillary but said she is going to write in, “Ted Cruz”. I just smiled and said, “Good for you. I think you should”. Anybody but Trump.
Great short doc although it would have been nice if he could have tried to have an interview where there was back and forth. For example at the end when his dad expressed why he feels Trump must be intelligent because he is wealthy the son could have expressed his view.. In reality Trump inherited a large share of his fathers property company and through this status and financial starting point he was able to engage in various different business ventures. Notable failures include Trump Airlines, Vodka, Mortgages and Casinos. Not to mentions the various lawsuits from unpaid workers in multiple different ventures. So i really enjoyed perusal this but it also frustrated me greatly. Hearing his father talk about how he knows his son has decided his view was sad. Clearly the man with the rigid ideology was the father. A strange but fascinating article. Thanks.
The sadness and pity of it all. These poor people don’t know what they invite back into the world. It hurts my heart. The post-WW2 era ends and we return to humanity’s natural anti-intellectual, anti-science, anti-solidarity ways. If you’re liberal (of any kind) get your solidarity on and elect liberalism local to you — Bernie, Obama, Hillary, Corbyn, Trudeau: just get them elected. The differences are less than the anti-liberal world that grows around us. The stakes could not be higher.
America IS great, I travel the world and I have seen the beauty of the United States of America. Thanks to brave men and women that have sacrifice their lives. Not discriminating on their gender nor their country of origin. United we stand is what I want. Unity makes more sense to me than trying to offend groups of people bcs of their heritage. Viva America!! Land of the free and home of the brave.
It is sad that he appears so invested in partisan politics, not realizing that Trump isn’t even a republican by most standards. If he truly believes or insists that he is a republican, how does he support Trump so much? It is because he is not the die-hard republican he feels he is and is instead buying into the rhetoric that’s been shouted over and over. The utter lack of legitimate policies and facts to support the rhetoric goes unnoticed. It is simply easier to direct blame in one direction and then believe in the false hope pedaled from the other direction. This is, in a nutshell, 2016.
I think it’s your dad that can’t be convinced otherwise. Putting the blame or excuse on you for not talking about somthing because he feels you would react a certain way either mean he’s being defensive of his values and doesn’t want to be challenged or made to explain his way of thinking/ beliefs. Or worse, he doesn’t respect you and doesn’t believe you can have a rational conversation where you can hear eachothers words and come to a resolution, compromise, or peaceful disagreement (mother said you’d be at each others throats). So its great that you started this conversation. Hopfully at the very least you get to understand eachother better.
I thought the most important thing about being American was to be free, do what I like, and be who I want to be without infringing on the freedoms of other Americans. I didn’t realize that being American was about getting rich. I’m fine with Americans getting rich if it doesn’t ruin my day. Lately it has since Trump has taken office. He’s a terrible libertarian.
I have a friend who has had I don’t know how many of his Trump Signs vandalized, and every time they do it he puts up a new one. I don’t understand these people who do that, do they think that going to change some ones mind? If anything it makes me even more sure about voting for Trump! TRUMP 2016!!!!!!!
It’s gotta be hard being a Trump supporter in Bernie Country. I understand the motivation behind the actions of the people who ran over the signs but I don’t condone the actions themselves. I’m a liberal. Really, I’m borderline leftist. But I understand that we have two choices in this election, and a few million people are going to take the Trump option. I believe they’re wrong but their choice is their choice. To try and punish people for their opinions or their non-violent choices is fascist.
This poor fella and millions like him have pinned their hopes on a man that can’t relate to them and could really care less about them. It’s truly sad. Even the tax cut will come back to bite us in the rump. We might see a little money back on our pay checks for a couple of years, but our republican friends will use the deficit this tax bill produces to make a case for reducing social security and medicare. You don’t believe that? Watch, it’s coming. Thanks, I feel better.
What is American dream? being rich! If that’s the definition then of course everyone, include what you think illegal immigrant are entitle to the goal of being rich! As legality for the means to rich? That is defined by the member of rich community. If you are not in this community, then work harder no wining
