5.0 rating based on 147 ratings

The Plath family, a prominent figure on TLC’s “Welcome to Plathville”, has faced numerous challenges and ups and downs in their lives. The show premiered in 2019, and its complex dynamics caught viewers’ attention. The Plath children, Olivia and Ethan, were raised in a sheltered upbringing in southeastern Georgia. However, the family’s complicated dynamics gained attention when they were featured on the reality show.

In 2022, Ethan’s parents Kim and Barry Plath announced their separation after more than two decades of Latino men supporting President-elect Trump. Olivia, who is married to Kim Plath, describes it as a “power struggle” being on the show with her estranged husband Ethan and his family. The couple separated in June.

The Plath family’s relationship began to fray in the new season of the show due to family tension. Olivia’s marriage with Ethan led to tension as she distanced herself from the fundamentalist lifestyle. Some members of the family put their differences aside so that Ethan could support his family during their difficult transition.

In an October 5 episode of “Welcome to Plathville”, Olivia sent a direct political message to fans in the wake of the 2024 presidential election. She shared evidence of her progressive political beliefs, which now run completely opposite to those of Ethan. The Plath family said they are a family full of love and respect for each other.

Ethan, 25, may face legal trouble in Minnesota, and the family is working to find out what happened to this kind, Christian boy. The family also shared a joint social media statement stating that they are a family full of love and respect for each other.

In conclusion, the Plath family’s struggles and struggles have been a topic of interest on TLC’s “Welcome to Plathville”.

  • I love Olivia and that entire family did her wrong !!! I like Ethan but he wouldn’t communicate with Olivia at all. Moriah and Micah both lied about Olivia and Moriah definitely lied about Olivia stealing from her and finally Moriah admitted to lying !!! The mother Kim Plath is pure evil and she did steal money from Ethan !!!

  • I admit I find this series fascinating. It is certainly interesting. It’s so strange. Overall they seem like very nice children. I’m so glad they finally broke free from the Vice grip of their parents. I think Olivia was really desperate to not live as a woman/servant as was expected. I was sad she and Ethan didn’t work out. When he said ‘when was the last time you cooked a meal’ I said to myself… run girl run! Moriah is all over the place. As for Kim, she seems desperate for attention. She really gets visually tense if she is not the center of attention. They are an interesting group and serves as a message how not to raise your children.

  • I just found this show about a month ago and already watched all 6 seasons and am caught up. My take is that Oliva is not as innocent as she portrays herself. My first red flag was when she got upset riding around in Ethans roadster complaining that his family might see her and then the car ran out of gas and she seemed ticked. I know Ethan is probably hard to deal with in ways, but I don’t like how she basically made him choose her or his family. Lydia seems like a sweetheart all around and is my favorite. She just seems like an all around good person and she will make somebody very happy one day like Kim said. Barry is slowly becoming top of my list too because he seems like a fun person to be around. I was impressed with his gym skills chest pressing 90lb dumb bells on that one episode. On the divorce paper episiode, I kinda wished Ethan would of just signed the divorce papers acting like it didn’t bother him as much as it did. He really didn’t expect Olivia to separate from him. It sounds like it was for the best, however as Ethan is obviously conservative and Olivia is very liberal. Kims decision to buy a boat that didn’t run seemed strange. Very surprised to see she got a DUI when she touted so many times how her mom was an alcoholic growing up. Sorry for the long post, but I got sucked into this show in a bad way.

  • Excellent! I despise any person who acts like this as a result of religious beliefs. Indoctrinating children as young as the little girl singing about things she couldn’t possibly understand, never sits well with me. Tat was more a response to season 1 tho to be honest. I thought Lydia had an incredible voice in season 3 when singing to herself.

  • Like every parent has this wholesome idea of how they want to raise their kids, what they think their kids are gonna be like, and what their kids should be like. But see even sheltering them from the “evils” of the world. But these evils they sheltered them from are actually real life and the real evils of the world that they should have been warned about and raised knowing that they should avoid this stuff.. they didn’t even know existed. In my opinion, being someone who grew up a in life during the 90s with things I should have been sheltered from but wasn’t. I thank God I was exposed to because my mistakes made me who I am and others mistakes that I witnessed helped me to not make some of those mistakes. However, homeschooling, sheltering from everything but their family, not socializing and having their own identities, the beginning of their lives were spent pleasing their parents, they all only get GED’s because of homeschooling and NVR stepping foot into a real school, they were socially awkward only having each other. And I heard the mother saying that public school is the only time in a child’s life they will ever be in a room full of people their own ages teaching them stuff academically they may not need. However, you did not teach your children life skills. Only Lydia knows how to run a house hold as far as cleaning and cooking and maybe light farm work. The rest had a huge dis service done to them because the real world slapped them in the face, ass, shoulders. They may have belly flipped on life.

  • I’m so happy to find fans. This show…I watched the first season, but I couldn’t stop until the end of season 6. Is this family an underlining of dysfunctional, most definitely. But beyond the negative, the strength and love that this family has for each other is inspirational. I learned so much from all these siblings, Barry and Kate. All in all, I enjoy this show, very different from most.

  • You wouldn’t wish the Plath childhood on your own worst enemy? Granted, Olivia’s family seems to have had a level of abuse (which is unlear and no one is talking about in-depth), but all of the older Plath kids are complimentary of their childhood, and look how healthy and happy and musically (and some mechanically) talented they all turned out. Not my cup of tea, but maybe not as terrible as you are portraying it – just different. It’s ok to be different even if you don’t agree with it.

  • You don’t need to deep dive into anything woman this man married. The woman of his dreams, gave her a lot of babies. All these kids grew up to be great kids with great education and great values. She decided to leave and he deserves to move on. He’s not a bad guy. Don’t try and dig up any nonsense here. And yes, I am not saying anything wrong with alcoholism because it runs in my family but this man you could tell he tried to keep the family together and she’s the one that moved on and he deserves to move onto Barry if you read this, I’m in South Florida and I think you are hot.

  • Address this Veronica not wanting to go public, but we all know she’s in it for the clout & whatever $$$ she thinks she can get out of Micah while emasculating him. The $34K “E ring” is just ridiculous when she doesn’t value him or his work, makes him do her “honey do” lists every day while she’s at the office, making REAL $$$. She makes fun of him every chance she gets & not in a cute, loving way but a degrading one. He can’t say pecans the way he likes, but in her next breath she is all “to-may-toe, to-mAH-to”, when it’s convenient for her‼️Such a hypocrite and narcissist. I truly hope Micah RUNS from her & experiences more of this great big world that he has yet to explore & understand, which includes dating other people 🩵

  • Wow such passive aggressive one sided cat comments! Retract those claws. Olivia! REALLY? She really has control issues & stamps her partners with tattoos! The parent comment you read out all finger pointing abt cutting off a parent…… goes both ways as the majority of children who go through puberty are the most selfish, irrational, fad following, change like a whim, OTT emotional, self destructive, lying manipulative, aggressive nut jobs…. That’s because of puberty, hormones! FACT. Parents have to navigate this all with all pressure of social media. So i find your one sided comments offensive & unhelpful & part of the problem.

  • Kids “abandon” their parents first all the time. Young people think that they know every thing and will often hate their parents bc they don’t understand their parents actions/choices. Look at Mikah and Moriah. They cut off contact with their parents bc Olivia manipulating them. The idea that kids somehow have some sacred knowledge and would never cut off contact for an illegitimate reason is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard.

  • What I got of this article is Olivia needs to go away and stop fighting with the Plath family. She can have her thoughts of her family but move on. The Plaths are a loving family and Olivia can’t stand it. Move on Olivia be a happy liberal in California. If possible, get your own show but spill your family issues and get away from Ethan. Let Ethan move on. You have a new love. Let him move on and get off their show.

  • Well regardless of the extreme diciplinary beliefs there is no evidence that the Platts ever used those tactics on the kids. As far as I can see all the kids are extremely intelligent, kind, caring, motivated, and well adjusted. They will be an asset to humanity. These are good people. No human is perfect so why the tear down? I’d rather see this wholesome behavior than drug abuse, over sexualization, hateful behavior, disrespect, laziness, entitlment, and the list goes on…..again, no humans are perfect but they seem decent enough. It really hurts to see them being torn down for human flaws. Ughhh!

  • i never liked olivia. she thought she was smarter & more educated than everyone else, clearly she is NOT. she was so rude to ethans parents & did everything she could to disrupt the family life & rules undermine the parents & even convinced ethan to hate his parents & to stay away from them & even not to go in the driveway if his mum was there?! so tantrum like & ethan was her little puppy dog. absolutely malicious. i dont think the mum deserves any medals, she appears to be cold & distant in a way BUT she wasnt abusive, & there was no reason for olivia to act the way she did. it was way overkill, a power grab. she literally kidnapped the kids. she could have been an asset to the family. she could have enhanced it, even opened it up, but in a positive way, with love & acceptance… but her ego & the huge baggage she carries from her own family rather ruin it all over things that could have been easily resolved & forgiven & forgotten. do u notice after ethan broke away & micah & moriah left…she gets back w/ her sister she hasnt spoken to in years?! because she had no one, she was the one who threw away her sister, now she wants a relationship w/ her. no, shes not a good person for all her showboating.

  • You obviously are an apologist for Olivia Plath. You make it seem as if she is entirely innocent and in reality a victim of abuses thrust upon her by these two evil fundamental religious families. From my perspective she could’ve quickly and easily ‘cleared things up’ in the cases of several points of dispute if she hadn’t been so self-pitying and weepy. I do hold Ethan culpable for some of the growing tensions because he’s such a poor communicator–very poor indeed. He is anathema to any form of confrontation–perhaps that’s an attempt to be ‘gentle’ or kind, but it sure hasn’t served well and in his favor. I do agree with Ethan’s insistence that he would parent his children in a conservative fashion. That’s a big problem in America today–permissive, progressive-thinking famliies with few to no standards of cecorum or morality. Call me old fashioned? Yep I sure am. Naturally in a reality drama and expose of private stuff like this show, I wish all of them well and hope they can each find peace and happiness.

  • The plaths lived an ideal childhood. You are speaking from a point of View as you being the child. I look at it from a parents perspective and i wish so much i could have raised mine that way. You have to remember kids havent been parents but parents have been kids. Prioritizing being able to do whatever you want is a very naive perspective and i promise you will change what you believe as you mature.
