What Will The Family Guy Do With Adam West?

5.0 rating based on 135 ratings

Sam Elliott has joined the voice cast of Family Guy, replacing Adam West as the Mayor of Quahog in Season 19. After West’s death in 2017, the show faced the challenge of finding a new character to replace him. Sam Elliott, a veteran cowboy actor who received an Oscar nomination for his work in A Star is Born, will be taking on the role. West, who passed away in 2017, voiced a fictionalized version of himself for over 100 episodes.

Family Guy producer Steve Callaghan discussed the future of the late Batman star in a 2012 interview with IGN. West had done a pilot with Seth MacFarlane before his most famous show, Family Guy. The show will return next season, and Adam West will be a part of the new season. West played the Mayor on the animated series and recorded lines for five episodes.

Family Guy will rename the high school seen on the animated series after the late Adam West. West died from leukemia at the age of 88, and his legacy and tenure as Mayor of Quahog will live on during the new season. Adam West’s role in Family Guy was inspired by his guest appearance in an episode of Johnny Bravo written by Seth MacFarlane. West tries to join in the guy’s hunt for Bobby Briggs when he disguises himself as their table at The Drunken Clam in “Joe’s Revenge”, but has to go to be the Mayor of Quahog.

Sam Elliott’s role as the new Mayor of Quahog could help add structure to the show. He was brought in to play Adam’s cousin Wild West after West’s death, and while it would be wrong to say that Wild West is a direct substitute for Adam West, he could help add structure to the show.
