Can I Ask Dollar General Employees About Penny Items?

When shopping for penny items at Dollar General, it is crucial not to ask store employees about them or make inquiries via phone. Penny items are not meant to be on the shelves, and employees are trained to remove them. They cannot buy these items themselves and are required to send them back to the warehouse. If difficulties arise during checkout, refrain from arguing, and always try to leave the store more courteous than you arrived. Remember, employees are not allowed to discuss the penny list, so your best bet is to utilize social media or membership services for information.

How Do I Find Out What Has Gone To A Penny?

Utilize your phone and the Dollar General app for scanning items before heading to the store, as their wifi may be unreliable. Scan items in-store with the app’s scanner to locate penny items from a designated list. Avoid inquiring about penny items from store employees. Learn about valuable old pennies, including their mintage and condition, which significantly influences their auction prices. Assessing an old penny's value involves a combination of its type, year, mintmark, and grade.

Values can fluctuate among markets and dealers. A free tool is available to estimate your penny's worth by entering the coin's year, mint mark, and condition. Recognize valuable circulating pennies based on their features. Additionally, some coins may display errors or post-mint damage, impacting their classification and value. Key dates and values of various US pennies are readily available, from Flying Eagle to Lincoln pennies. To find rare pennies, check clearance sections or spots around the register in the store.

Long-forgotten items can occasionally yield treasures, though most may be unremarkable. For sorting through coins, face them down and classify them by type, like wheat backs versus newer shield cents. Analyze your coins systematically to determine their numismatic value effectively.

  • I’ve purchased penny items 2 different times from the same store. Both times they just adjusted the price to .05 & .10. I think they’re suppose to mark them out of their inventory and dispose (in the dumpster) of those penny items. You may want to check your FDs dumpster the next few days and see if those totes/baskets have been thrown out 🤷🏼‍♀️ awesome article with great info as always! I love your FD articles!! There’s not too many people doing FD consistently like you do and there’s a lot of great deals over there

  • Hi Brandie! Yes, I found items at FD for a penny and the manager just wont sell them. I have had penny items run thru without being noticed too. I have also offered to pay like 10cents for stuff so it won’t be a penny and some will, some wont. AND, I have had managers just give it to me for free! They just put it in the bag and look at you. Kind of an unspoken thing…so you never know. Thanks for sharing this article. 😉👍❤

  • After i seen your article about the kitchen stuff clearance, i ran to my family dollar/dollar tree combo and nothing was tagged! I got up to the register and the cashier was telling the other cashiers how much everything was. They were asking if there was more and they were running back to grab stuff lol.. thank you for your articles!!

  • Hey Brandi I I found some dial bodywash the clean & gentle it was ringing up 1cent in the Family Dollar app they had a shelf full I took 2 bottles 2 the register I had some more things as well the cashier told me its coming up in the system not to sell I was like really because u have a shelf full and she asked me if I wanted to go get a different one I said no. I went to a different Family Dollar and found the same dial bodywash cashier rung it up for a dollar with no problem. 😊

  • At my stores I check yo see who’s working then decide if I should bring it to the register when I do find penny items at FD… I usually ask them to sell to me at .50cents or 90%off the regular price … I only have 3 local stores I usually go2 and the employees are pretty cool at 2 of the stores but the 3rd store is crappy…. lol

  • I found a penny item and put it in my cart along with some other things i was going to purchase. But i left my cart sitting on one isle to run over to the next and when i came back my item was gone. There was a worker there and she was gone too. All she had to do was say we cant sell this item and i would have understood but to just take it out of my cart was crazy.

  • I got lucky one time a couple of months ago.I found plastic baby spoons in packs of 10. I had them scan a few items first and just added them to the pile of items I was taking. The guy noticed it was penny items after scanning a few,but just scanned them and charged me like any other transaction.I think it was 12 packs of spoons.😅

  • Cashier did not sell me the boy underwear and he went on to say it’s the manager because his mgr is strict by the book and some mgrs who wants more money for the store will sell sell and then he went on to give me the paper coupons to download on my phone which I already have lol so he was pleasant I ended up getting those nonstick frying pans today from FD for 2,50 and the five piece pot set for 13 bucks
