Alex Murdaugh, a prominent attorney, has two brothers and one sister. His older brother, Randolph (Randy) Murdaugh IV, is also a lawyer who works at the firm Peters, Murdaugh, Parker, Eltzroth, and Detrick (now known as Parker Law Group). The four siblings are Lynn Murdaugh-Goettee, him, Alex, and John Marvin Murdaugh. The middle two chose to follow in their dynasty’s prominent footsteps. Randy became the first family member of the disgraced attorney to speak out after the high-profile trial, where Murdaugh was convicted of all charges and sentenced to life in prison.

Alex’s brother, Richard Alexander “Alex” Murdaugh, had called 911 just after 10 p. m. ET to report that he had returned to his family’s estate in Islandton, South Carolina. They have two daughters and a son — Mills, Trey, and Reeves — whom they continue to care for and support whenever required while also devoting themselves to their careers. The family at the center of the Murdaugh murders includes Alex Murdaugh, Maggie Murdaugh, Paul Murdaugh, and Buster Murdaugh.

Both Randy and John have publicly shown their support for their brother Alex in connection to his wife and son’s murders. For generations, the Murdaugh family dominated their rural swathe of South Carolina, and then Alex Murdaugh was accused of the brutal murders of his wife and son.

How Did Alex Murdaugh'S Brother React To The Verdict?

Randy Murdaugh expressed his respect for the jury's verdict but emphasized his belief that his brother, Alex Murdaugh, is withholding crucial information regarding the murders of their family members, Maggie and Paul. He described Alex as a protective father and husband yet suggested that he is lying about the circumstances of the killings. During the six-week trial, Alex's younger brother, John Marvin, testified to cleaning up after the murders, asserting he did not believe Alex was involved, a claim that sparked significant social media attention.

After the verdict, which rendered Alex guilty on all charges, Randy noted that he hasn't spoken to Alex in nearly a year and remains confused about the events of that fateful night. He did, however, convey a certainty about Alex being a manipulative liar and thief. While both John Marvin and Alex's son, Buster, testified in Alex's defense, Randy was not called to testify. He reflected on the emotional weight of the trial and his brother's conviction, stating that although he respects the jury's decision, he feels that Alex knows more than he has disclosed regarding the brutal murders.

  • One of these two, is a lawyer himself. He is not stupid, he is not deaf, nor blind. He has heard the evidence and no matter who pulled the trigger, Alex is guilty of either killing his wife and child or organising it. He was there, so he either did it or knew about it, possibly even witnessed it, to be sure they were dead. Alex was emphatic with law enforcement, questioning that they were actually dead. Alex is not telling what he knows? I agree and that would be telling the truth. Something he is incapable of. He deserves, DESERVES what he got. No one has the right to take another’s life. These two brothers should be crying tears of shame, over the complete mess and mockery Alex has made of their family. The loss of their sister in law and nephew. He is their brother and l would dare say they know or at least suspect a lot more than they are telling also.

  • He’s close enough to be involved in the Stephen issue cause I’m pretty sure randy offered Stephen’s mom free legal representation that she didn’t even know why she would need in order to have access to the records as his lawyer to either manipulate them or whatever, and nothing happens to the son without alex involved in this family, so…makes you wonder, I’d say they were damn close and now he’s afraid of legal problems in Stephen’s case and is trying to distance as much as possible, another fink

  • He also stated he loved the people he stole from, the closest people thought he was loving and caring. But his actions and lies hurt the most vulnerable people in that community. So to think he could never murder his loved ones, not surprising to me, because he masked his true self for every one around him to be fooled. His pretend love for everyone involved, was just that, pretend and fake, he only truly cared about himself.

  • I think that until Alex makes a full, honest, detailed confession, no one will stop thinking about this case. It’s the only thing left to do for a number of reasons. The most important though is the opportunity Alex has to cleanse his soul, mind and heart from what he has done. That’s the only “next step” he NEEDS to take.

  • Come on the only reason Alec decided to come clean about his false alibi was because of his dead sons cell phone article. The only regrets he really has was not grabbing Pawpaw’s cell phone when he had the chance. Using addiction as an excuse was pathetic and an insult to our intelligence the amount of milligrams he claimed to have consumed according to an addiction counselor who is also a medical doctor I know what he claimed to have been taken on a daily basis was pure BS. He would be dead and further the money he stole exceeded by far the amount he would have actually spent on his huge habit. He has now hidden millions and at least Buster knows where it’s buried. He’s in prison conducting business as usual giving orders to everyone over the phone having them all run around selling assets etc like he’s getting out next week. Buster wasn’t a liability. Poor Paul was, and he knew once Maggie found out how much he stole from his partners one who was his brother she would divorce him and she would take whatever was left after the lawsuits or whatever property that was protected in her name solely. Then he would be left with absolutely nothing. He needed one wing man and he chose Buster. He spared him his life. There’s no emotion between the two of them This I love you more from the jail phone and ordering flowers for Maggie and Paul’s grave was for the sake of his appeal. Randy hates him and my guess is so doesn’t Buster he killed his mother and brother for God sake. It’s got nothing to do with addiction, this is about entitlement and the arrogance of a narcissistic greedy monster he fooled no one and he will lose his appeal and continue to get visits from Paul and Maggie late at night while the wheels are turning in his head while trying to fall asleep.

  • Oh c’mon. Alex was involved in drug smuggling for years. The land deals he refers to were remote coastal land parcels that he co-owned with another well know drug smuggler. The land was ideally suited to receiving shipments of drugs from South American traffickers. Alex had also embezzled nearly 10 million dollars through the firm his brother was also a partner at. And Alex and Randy both enjoyed the special “privileges” their fathers judicial power and contacts gave them. I suspect Alex was told by his law partners (and other co-conspirators), that he would have to claim he committed all his financial and drug crimes alone. This has allowed PMPED to present itself as innocent and unaware – which is in fact a laughable claim. I also suspect Alex will be very popular in prison because of his legal skills and judicial contacts. For that reason, I don’t think prisoners will threaten him, but I suspect his family and his co-conspirators would have him dispatched if he doesn’t continue taking all the blame.

  • Alex was never going to kill himself. When Alex called cousin Eddie perhaps asking to meet for drugs or he told Eddie that he was depressed, thinking about killing himself. But Alex was going to kill cousin Eddie and make it look like cousin Eddie had not only killed Maggie and Paul but then tried to kill Alex. Then Alex would shoot Eddie, killing him so he couldn’t talk. But Alex’s plan didn’t go as planned. When Alex acted like he was going to shoot himself, they wrestled with the gun, Alex was grazed instead of Eddie left dead. Eddie left probably not realizing what almost happened. Alex had to think of a new excuse to explain a GSW to his head to doctors and police. Alex was never going to kill himself. • This guy helped Alex cover up the Steve murder for Buster. In essence he helped Alex in the subsequent crimes. Alexs main motive for the killings was to not have anyone on the outside taking his money, (maggie) or costing him money (paul) …while he served his slap on the hand sentence for the white collar crimes. He knew he could control Buster bc of the leverage he has on him. (Thx to this brother Randy). It NEVER occurred to Alex that anyone would dare question his story. He & his whole family are in complete shock & now under the microscope.

  • As he begs his friends and family to put more money on other peoples canteen, because “he will pay it back”, will get old real quick. People won’t have time to entertain phone calls from prison. There will come a time, in jail, when silly people who where never in his tax bracket, will get sick of his lies, too. And FINALLY, Alex might catch a clue. It really doesn’t matter, though. If we have to place faith in HIM to be honest…WE are the ones that are screwed.

  • I’ve been trying to make Alex’s story fit another shooter and I’m convinced that guy had to be Jason Bourne. Stealth onto property, gain access to Paul’s guns without anyone seeing, silence the guns, suprise Paul no defensive wounds, suprise Maggie no defensive wounds, wash off, telepathically convince Alex to lie for no reason about being at the scene, take the only phone Alex could open, look at the phone right before Alex calls it, take the same route out as Alex and chuck the phone on it, do all this on foot, get GSR on the inside of the blue coat, stow it in Almeda, make all of Alex’s clothes he was wearing that day disappear, make the guns disappear. This person also is an internet troll who has alot of hate and “has thought about this for a long time.”

  • Randy looked very unconvinced by Alex on the stand, didn’t see him after that. Himself and Marian were truly shocked by Alex’s behaviour after the murders. If anything Randy is being generous saying he might not have pulled the trigger, pretty sure he thinks he did. Basically it appears Alex is capable of anything and that is a shock to many who spent their lives around him with no idea. I would imagine they know he would have just as easily killed them if he thought it better to do so.

  • I definitely think more will come out. I’m up in the air with Buster. But I’m so sorry for the innocent family members caught into the web. Even though the brothers weren’t close, they still love their brother. Influential families don’t get to Heaven any faster than their less influential. I’m sad for the whole situation. I pray that Buster had “nothing” to do with any of it.

  • Find the smoking guns and you will have your answer. This investigation was botched from the start if they wanted to prove Alex did it. They should have worked 24-7 tracing steps of Buster and Alex until they they covered every step they made while holding the two of them. If they know where both of them were and the steps they took, they would have found the weapons the first day.

  • seriously? doubt? where are the 2 family’s guns used in the murder? Why did Maggie say to a friend after talking to Alex @something’s fishy” Where are Alex’s clothes he had on just prior to the murder? Why did Alex suggest to the house keeper he was visiting his father house linger than he was? Drug addiction makes you do ANYTHING to keep the supply coming!!!

  • That says a whole lot in && of itself. Randy, I admire ur courage to speak against those u love, in ur honesty. I pray u and ur family will come to a place of peace and understanding and of course, true healing requires truth. U are truly respected for ur honesty and transparency. Maybe u as well as us all, will come to find peace. May Maggie && Paul Paul rest in peace. I am sorry for all u have gone thru Randy Murdaugh. Blessings to u all. May the hand 0f God bring true justice for all concerned. This story touched me so much, I was amazed at how a family whom I had never known of before this happened, touched the whole nation, as well as myself. Also, my deepest and sincerest condolences regarding all the loss ur family has endured. 🥀🥀🥀🥀

  • I want to know which one of these guys staged the Moselle house and even the dog kennel when the jury visited. That told me so much about the Murdaughs in general. If your brother is innocent, why skew the truth? It was so cheezy. (I believe it was Buster and John Marvin.) Randy certainly got involved in the shady side when Stephen Smith was killed. Read about that!

  • He’s already been convicted I’m hoping after his appeal that he will come clean with the family and just admit the truth so at least they can learn with how to deal with this. At that point what do you have to lose? It would make Alex sleep better at night, and it would certainly help his family to find closure. I think it’s what the judge said it’s the monster within him that did it, and I think he needs to come to terms with the fact that we all know the truth, so just come clean for your family sake.

  • Well, it is possible that his law partners had his wife and son killed because of all that money they had to put back . To make him suffer for what he did, they set him up to be there as they had some person or persons to kill Maggie and Paul. Read what this man has said. He made it clear that he did not harm Maggie or Paul under no circumstances.. then you can say he had taken sixty pills that day and blacked out.

  • There is a pray that Alex will eventually come clean about how and why he killed them that somehow he could gain some kind of forgiveness at least from God to avoid a very real burning Hell . It’s never the same no amount of time behind those prison bars will undo what he has done when it comes to Paul and Maggie. My granddaughter and unborn child was killed after Colton Willard jerked her steering wheel. She was only 18 and 17 weeks pregnant . He only spent 22 months of a measley 5 year sentence for reckless and fetal homicide. He never showed any remorse and really just the opposite the family, him, and oven others in the community blaming her in their warped way .How she overcorrected or how she should have stopped and put him out . She’d had a hard life to have been so young . We pretty much raised her her mother rejecting her, she had a highschool sweet heart 3 years they had plans in the midst of their relationship she had a baby girl at 16 at the same time she found out she was pregnant the one she had dated for 2 years Kevin found out he had cancer he died after 18 months of battling it at age 19 and their baby only 9 months old and she was killed 6 months later on Mother’s day weekend when their baby was only 15 months old. She turned 6 in February . She tells people her Mommy and Daddy live in her heart . She goes to the cemetery 4 times year for their birthdays and Father and Mother’s day . Colton had them beady dark brown eyes not to degree Alex does but still enough to know he was dangerous the cold hard stares I’d see and my sweet Kaytlynn would always say Nanny I know you lovee and worry about me but Colton would never hurt me or Piper .

  • The brothers fit in by covering everything up for Alex and their self, this family made things happen just so they could file a case, they are one money hungry family. What a disgrace on this family, this family was never good, they have been evil for generations in this family. The whole family has been walking around this town in sheep’s clothing.

  • Oh my blood isn’t thicker than water. Are these people now trying to distance and build their own credibility??? I thought they stood by their brother who was sooooooo “smitten with Maggie?” What’s really shady and important is that Alex didn’t warn Buster to stay somewhere safe if there was in fact some “random vigilante” was on the loose… Alex also wasn’t scared of that very vigilante coming after him either. Why??? Because Alex is the vigilante. Taking care of Paul’s crimes and Maggie sadly was collateral damage. 😱

  • The Defense would have benefited to suggest Alex drug dealer could have helped do this. “They did him so bad”. I believe Alex was involved but not sure is the only shooter. I think he may have shot Maggie but someone else shot Paul. On the 911 call Alex is heard responding to someone with him at scene.

  • I don’t trust anyone in that family behind a lace curtain but it’s fair to say that the murder of his sister law and nephew was the straw that broke the camels back to Randy. He could be a terrible person who helped cover stuff up and was aware of or maybe in on the stuff at the firm but that still doesn’t mean this wasn’t just one step to far for Randy’s fucked up moral compass.

  • There’s NO WAY he took 45 to 50 opioids, I know cause I was injured in wreck & was on them for 30yrs, I got very bad, I took 18, 10 MG Lortab & 3 10mg oxycontin a day. Alex looks fine, if a person was taking 45 to 50 pills a day for 20yrs, ge would look extremely strung out & rough. IT MADE ME MAD AS HELL FOR HIM TO SAY IT WAS DRUGS THAT RUINED EVERYTHING, FOR HIM TO USE THAT AS AN EXCUSE, WHEN EVERY REAL DRUG ADDICT IS SUFFERING EXTREME SUFFERING AND LOSS, ITS LIKE THE TERM STOLEN VALOR, IM NOT BRAGGING ABOUT ADDICTION, IM SAYING WE ALL HAVE LOSS, ITS NOTHING TO USE AS AN EXCUSE FOR HIS PROBLEMS.

  • Pretty sad living w/a liar, thief and murderer. Goes you show you there are bad apples in every family no matter who you think you are. They just hide their secrets b/c they think they can fool others. Love the verse, “not in my neighborhood”. Yep, in yours. Sad to say that entire family got what they deserved. It’s the victims he left behind AP that will carry the burdens. As for those who took property off while being indicted they too should carry some sort charge. That property belongs to the victims.

  • Alex is guilty of the murders of Maggie & Paul. Howsoever, he did not act alone. The investigation needs to continue to find the accompises involved. God above knows the truth! Someone helped get rid of the guns, helped him clean up & get the blood off him! Also Alex & Buster act as nothing has even happened! Neither showed any emotions. After the murders they continued running around with their rich life going to all kinds of events! Alex deserved life in prison on both events so he can think about them to rest of his life. Also other murders need to be re-opened & killers found. I truly believe they are in this family! Drugs was not the only reason Alex & unknow others involved did the murders. Greed of their rich wealthy life style stolen from Alex’s clients continues keeping them on the go! Alex has too many convinces in prison, he deserves complete solitary confinement without the lectures he has,tv & phone privileges with others besides his attorney’s.! Just praying God will prevail & all the truth will come out. All those involved deserve life in solitary confinement without luxuries they are used to having! Also whatever you do in public, you are accounted for, it’s not invasion of privacy! If you don’t want others knowing what you are doing, stay behind closed doors! God has the last say & when your time is up God decicides where you go! The guilty are bound for Enternal HEELL! Wake up & confess the truth now,so you have a chance with God’s forgiveness!

  • I do can see Alex being targeted by drug cartel, he is a thief, why not to take from drug lords, he feel unbeatable. It is a possibility and goes well with his actions. A family killer almost never kill looking its victims’ eyes. I dont see him pulling the trigger. If a drug cartel set him up he is not going to say it, he does has family left, funny thing is his fav son.

  • I’m sorry buddy, but your brother did kill them – step outside the box and look at all the facts, remind yourself of all the lies, and most of all remember how everything he did in his life was to save his own ass, even if it meant, killing his son and his wife. Does the public think that some of those tears were real when he’s remembering and telling what the crime scene looked like, u betcha.

  • Randy really appears to have distance himself for awhile. He knew his brother was a liar. Alex lived a very different lifestyle from his what Randy. They now are finding out a lot about what Alex’s dark side was like. I find it odd no one picked up anything for 20 yrs to the money aspect of his stealing. UNLESS THEY KNEW AAND STAYED SILENT..

The FBI Profilers weren’t involved in this case bc I didn’t hear no ” export decisions
