  • Telling this story from Richard William’s perspective is genius. Imagine raising daughters in Compton, CA and having the vision to get two of them into tennis! And turn them into not just elite players…but legendary Hall of Fame players who dominate the sport for decades and turn the tennis world upside down. This is an amazing story.

  • Serena is so right! Venus put them on the map. When Venus was winning Championships Serena was still in the camp. In the world sports they use to talk about the younger sister being so powerful in the camp. Richard is to be crowned for protecting and taking on all burden of hate for his daughters. Richard let the “racist/evil” side of the tennis world focus on him and not attack his daughters so they could concentrate and be free to play. He was strategic and is a fantastic person. Great man.

  • Richard Williams was a visionary. He had absolutely no background in tennis. He instilled the confidence, desire and determination into his daughters and changed the course of sports history. It’s a credit to Venus and Serena that they had the talent and athleticism to bring his dream to fruition. It was one thing to teach them the fundamentals, another thing entirely to be able to successfully execute those lessons. Bravo!

  • I’m still sitting here trying to wrap my head around the fact that will smith is 13 and 12 years older than Venus and Serena and NONE of them look anywhere close to their ages. I know Brady gets a lot hype for being the oldest quarterback but meanwhile Serena is sitting over here humbly remaining competitive on the global stage at 40 years old after having a child that caused her severe health conditions. These women are so powerful I am in awe, especially Venus being so humble and gracious.

  • Venus really is Regal, always carried herself like true royalty. I just love that about her! She is royal in the eyes of many! Serena is phenomenally awesome! I just cannot say enough, the sisters, the dad, the family! AND Will Smith, icing on the cake! His performance and that of the entire cast, absolutely incredible! A REAL one, for the history books! ENCORE!

  • I know we talk about historical figures who have paved the way in many things. Most of us never get to LIVE in that time. I don’t even think Venus and Serena even comprehend (especially to a black tennis player) how powerful of an impact they have had on us, the sport, the culture, the respect, and anything they have given us over the past 25 years. Like, they have no idea. To be able to live and see their success with my own eyes is probably the greatest advancement for people of color I feel I will ever see in my lifetime.

  • I am a former competitive tennis player, and what they say about these two women is not exaggerated. Venus is one of the greats in women’s tennis, but Serena truly is one of the greatest athletes of all time. Usually female tennis players retire at around 30. She went several years beyond, remained number 1 for majority of her career, and won a grand slam while pregnant. She’s the only tennis player that could take months off tour, then return, train a bit, and be number 1 again. It’s unreal.

  • Serena is typically quite guarded in her tennis related interviews especially those post match ones. Interesting to see her so relaxed and genuinely happy. I absolutely love Venus she’s so classy, comes across as such an amazing humble human being. Thank you ladies for inspiring me to work hard and pick up tennis as my fitness sport. Love from Kenya!

  • Venus and Serena have revolutionized everything…. how the struggles, abilities and abilities is women is perceived. I can’t help but celebrate them. I hope every black girl gets to see this movie. Will Smith, being the great actor that he is, portrays and brings the story to life very well. I love ❤ these phenomenal women

  • I say it all the time Venus & Serena are national treasures. To be dominant for 25 years plus is unfounded in any sport. Only Tom Brady rivals what they’ve done and still no comparison as he plays one side of the Ball and needs teammates to perform in order to fulfill what he’s accomplished. So glad Will Smith attached himself to this project, implies a Standard of excellence to be executed as well heightens the overall visibility of this film and the journey of this Family. #Bravo

  • Loved, loved, loved the film. Mr Williams had a vision for her daughters, and he brought it all forward. Very important messages in the film that I hope all families can learn from. A must see film. Will and the young actresses that played Venus and Serena, you guys “brought it”. Just a wonderful production. Cannot wait to see it once more.

  • Hail for both of these Queens. They have served not just an icons but a role model to all who are keeping to continue whatever life brings. Serena and Venus touched so many hearts with all the battles they’ve been through with their respective careers & personal lives and I’m so grateful to have lived in their era where inspirations and aspirations have been instilled up until to this new generation. Their careers could be nearing to the final stretch but what their beautiful souls showed the world, will live forever. Truly an Honor to their Great Father, Richard.

  • Venus & Serena are so gorgeous!! Aside from their monumental talent. And Will is so handsome! Everything he does is superb & flawless. The three of these historically incredible individuals sitting on that couch together is so impressive! ALLLL that talent!! Can’t wait to see this film. It is beyond wonderful their Father Richard is being recognized for the true King he is!

  • When I first heard of this movie, I went back and started REwatching all of the old press about Richard, Oracene the Girls and the family. perusal the movie, I literally had tears of joy. REwatching the love this family had for one another is amazing. If how the movie is accurate regarding Richard and Oracene, they deserve so much credit. But I remember reading how close all the girls were with each other. How sweet Venus and just how great as Serena’s big sister she is.

  • I watched the film as a treat from my family on my birthday. What a beautiful family-oriented film. Richard WAS a dad who gave his all to make his girls succeed. Will Smith acted his role very well. The actress who did Serena looked very much like her. I did not want the film to end. When it did end, no one in the cinema stood up. I guess they did not want it to end either. Is there a part 2 in the pipeline?

  • I absolutely love Venus and Serena. Their father, Richard, had a huge dream that came to fruition. It is amazing to see the heights they have soared because of the game of tennis. I am not even sure that they truly know the impact that they had on the game of tennis and on millions of players around the world. They will forever be legends, and I am glad that their father is getting honored for his huge role with this movie, King Richard.

  • Black people have no limits, I have so much respect for their dad. To bring them up in Compton CA. And them as young ladies make it out and become who and what they are is remarkable. I was raised in the projects in Chicago, My dad let the world know, Not this Family!! And we all lived relatively normal lives, with the exception of my oldest brother, he was killed while perusal a crap game surrounded by so called friends. But he kept all the bangers off us. I love will Smith, it’s a shame to see him going through changes with his wife.

  • I thought Will did a great job capturing this man. There are times when you love him, times when he comes across as obnoxious, times when he’s flat out wrong. There are times in the film where the racism Richard experienced in the past clouds his judgment, and there are times when he correctly sees right through the bullshit. But through it all, he keeps going and always makes his daughters a priority. Since they were producing the film they could have made him flawless, but they showed his warts. Great movie and great performance by Will.

  • I think Will Smith has come to peace with him self when it comes to his career, he isn’t about the fame and glory like that anymore to an extent, he still does his acting career with a goal now rather than to just survive. It’s great seeing someone learn and evolve from their past. I hope this film does great in the box office once it has been released and world wide too. Serena and Venus plus their father are inspiration not just to the black community, but to the whole world.

  • I am so filled with emotion perusal this interview. I am so proud of these three beings. Venus and Sirena are super heroes. I’ve worked with Will and he is the real deal. Such a hard worker on everything he does. Plus he gives nuff respect to other artists. May our paths cross again Will. I also look forward to crossing paths with my two super heroes. Thank you ladies for all you did in opening doors.🌻💜

  • Thank you Richard Williams for creating these phenomenal athletes. Your vision and hard work is the only reason they made it!! The world was given a very negative perception of you, because they didn’t want your daughter’s to become the champion’s that you molded them to be. This movie will put all those misconceptions to rest once and for all.

  • Wow. This was refreshing to hear and gives us a closer look at Venus and Serena as sisters, human beings who fought very hard and made their dreams come true with a Strong focused Father and support of Mom because it could not have happened without the family on board. Truly blessed and love Venus and Serena for their sisterhood too and Will Smith’s philanthropist heart.

  • This movie is beautiful! It really demonstrates what it takes coming from Compton to become the best two Tennis players in the world. What a great father!!!!! He had a vision and a plan and nothing was going to get in his way. Venus and Serena are the best, but outside of Tennis they are two spectacular human beings. Do not miss this movie King Richard!!!

  • Mr. Williams did an amazing job in training and teaching his daughters how to play Tennis, His vision was big for his girls and he helped them accomplish that career goal in becoming the greatest female tennis players of all time, my family and I watched them from the beginning and loved them and still love them, they have paved the way for so many young girls, I love it 😍❤️ so proud of these young ladies God bless you both ❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾

  • I can’t wait to see this movie!!! My older and I grew up playing tennis and was introduced to the sport at the age of 5 by our father. I’m sure perusal this will bring back so many memories of getting up before sunrise to travel most the summer to tournaments both in state and out of state. Days were my father would push us so hard we did two a day practices to prepare for those tournaments. Of course we never got to the level of pros like Serena or Venus, but those memories of my brother and I playing I’ll forever keep with me.

  • I watched this yesterday on the flight back from UK. I wanted to watch it again straight after it finished! I felt the same after Green Book and Hidden Figures. That is the standard of this film… Will Smith and the girls are incredible. My favourite sport’s film ever and there’s some amazing ones out there (Moneyball, Remember the Titians, The Blind Side).

  • Millie: They never choose a better person 2 represent Venus n Serena’s dad but Will Smith the Fresh Prince of Belair may the Lord continue 2 bless all who participated in making this film much ❤ n 🙏🙏 from a fan who doesn’t knows them in person but always watches their performances a decade ago. Special blessings goes out 2 their parents as well as I’ve said times n times again it’s a God given gift so they’ve gotta make us of it AMEN

  • WOW! WOW!! I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE THIS MOVIE! THE BEAUTIFUL SISTER POWER OF THE WILLIAMS HAS ALWAYS ENERGIZED ME–AND OTHER STUFF THAT WOULDN’T BE APPROPRIATE TO TALK ABOUT! WILL YOU ARE THE MAN! I LIKE WHAT YOU SAID–“YOU DON’T MAKE MOVIES FOR MONEY ANY MORE, BUT TO HELP HUMANS”–THAT SOUNDS SO CLINICAL! LOL! Y-E-A-H! THANKS GUYS FOR DOING THIS!

  • Let me tell you something. I’m 59 years young and I’ve have loved the sport of tennis ever since I picked up a racquet when I was a child. I learned to play and got really good. I played in the community tournaments and watched tennis on TV as much as I could. Sure we had Arthur Ash and before him Althea Gibson but they were few and far between. When V and S came on the scene with people well most of them did not get them they did not receive them well and they did not like their father and guess what he did not care. The nasty stuff that came out of white people’s mouths towards to young girls that they did not know was amazing. I stood up for them on time when they were playing in Florida and this racist woman and I went toe to toe. I called her every name in the book and dared her to make a move. Of course, she just talked smack for I’m 6’2′ what was she going to do to me?

  • This is the story that should have been told at the Oscars. The Williams sisters should have accepted the award on behalf of Will Smith. It was unglorified and not necessary for him to accept the award after the slap and cursing among his peers. The story of King Richard and the legacy of the Williams sisters was lost on the behavior of their star lead actor. IRONIC.

  • I just bought Will Smith’s book. Three ideas- hard work, education, and love have driven his life. He keeps it so simple. That’s why his advice is so effective. But it’s effective for those not willing to make excuses. His hard core work ethic is revealed in his quote “If you and I get on a treadmill, either you will get off before me, or I will die”. Not many people have that level of conviction.

  • Will Smith is so talented, he has come a long way from the days of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, that seems like a lifetime ago, when he was making a name for himself in the articles on Yo MTV Raps. He is now an Oscar Nominated Actor, hopefully one day he will win the Oscar. I thought his portrayal of Muhammad Ali was an Oscar worthy performance.

  • The First Tennis Family of USA – period! This movie was so well done, and emotion of Richard’s struggle was captured well. The most interesting part of everything was HOW the 5 girls were happy within their family structure. ‘If you don’t plan, you’re planning to fail’ – “do you have a plan for tomorrow?’ was how Richard said good night to his daughters. FATHERS MATTER – A LOT!

  • First of all, there is no better actor to portray Richard Williams than Will Smith. He is the only person that could capture and develop the true essence of Richard Williams. Casting, as Will said, was unbelievable. Their start from an mprovished, crime ridden neighborhood, was commonplace to them. It showed the world that talent could be fostered from the worst of conditions. Richards perseverance to get hie talented girls in full view of the white tennis world was the best part of the story. His determination was relentless! Who knew the Oricene was the force behind Serena’s serve. I loved the story, glad it was told through Will Smith and can’t wait to see what Venus’s future holds.

  • Such an amazing movie. This movie just catapulted itself to the top of my list of black films. When I first heard that Will was playing the role of Richard. i was sure about that choice. Boy was I wrong. I love it when actors disapear in their role and all you can see is their character. Not only did I see Richard Williams but I felt him as well. This movie introduces us to the entire family and their untold struggles. There was no sugar coating about how weird Richard Williams was but at the same time there was a method to his madness. This movie made me laugh and cry, but most of all it allowed me to relive the journey.

  • These 2 women went through so much, because they were the 1st African Americans to rise to the pinnacle of tennis many times. And they excelled in a sport dominated by Europeans/Eastern block players. And others needed to at least, have similar features to be acceptable. They endured being called the Nword while playing in a match. The newspapers were against them. US Commentators openly rooting for their opponents. Fans booing whenever they HAD to retire from a match because of real injuries. They changed the sport, because tennis judges were so bias against them. Therefore, replay cameras had to be installed to counter bias judges. Other players didn’t have these burdens. They are already legends. And Serena is the GOAT!!

  • I was skeptical of this film but after perusal it I thought it was the best movie I saw all year. Great story to tell how 2 African American women broke so many barriers. I play a lot of tennis and at my area club I would say 60% of the players there are African American women. Venus and Serena did for tennis what Tiger did for golf. I think the bigger difference is tennis is so much more accessible to youth than golf. Golf requires expensive clubs and green/club fees and significantly more time. Tennis just requires a racket, a can of balls, and an open tennis court.

  • What a great movie! It lives from the story, the dialogue, incredible good acting and great real live personalities. It belongs in every decent movie collection, and it will be one of my favorite movies for ever. 😍😍😍😎😎 My favorite scene is when Richard got angry, because the kids bragged too much and he left them at a store to walk back home. 😁😁😂😂 I allways think, that sporty people should not just compete. They should also use their power in every day life. Too bad his wife interfered and he had to pick them up instead of having them learn that lesson.

  • This movie was great..Serena and Venus parents were instrumental in their success. I loved how her mother trained one of them when the coach only wanted to train the other sister. These women are so accomplished I’m humbled by their success. They are amazing.. her father took a lot of beating to protect them from the thugs in the neighborhood. This movie came right on time. William Smith was phenomenal in this role. I’ve seen it 5 times on prime. 😁
