Kinship diagrams, also known as kinship charts, are used to visualize relationships within a family tree or pedigree. They start with an “ego”, the individual at the center of interest, and lines extend out to show that person’s immediate family members and then their family members. Ego is typically depicted as a triangle or circle in a kinship system, and it is the starting point for tracing genealogical ties and identifying kin.
Ego is a term used in anthropology and sociology to refer to the individual whose kinship relationships are being described. This kinship chart illustrates the EGO’s relationship and family links, extending to almost four generations of the lineage, with the EGO being the third generation. Some anthropologists develop their own kinship symbols, as long as a key or description of the symbol is provided.
A genogram is a graphic representation of a family tree that displays the interaction of generations within a family. It goes beyond a traditional family tree by allowing the user to analyze family, emotional, and social relationships within a group. The name “ego” comes from the Finnish word “elo”, meaning “life, harvest”, or “grain”. Kinship diagrams can be turned into family tree diagrams, genograms, or pedigree charts by adding more information about life events and family relationships.
The Ego family name was found in the USA, Canada, and Scotland between 1840 and 1920. In 1840, there were 1, 050 Ego families in the United States, Canada, and Scotland. The most Ego families were found in Canada in 1911.
In summary, kinship diagrams are a useful tool for visualizing relationships within a family tree or pedigree, allowing users to trace genealogical ties and identify kin. They can be converted into family tree diagrams, genograms, or pedigree charts by adding more information about life events and family relationships.

What Is Ego In Genealogy?
In kinship studies, the term "Ego" refers to a designated individual central to genealogical reckoning, serving as the starting point for illustrating kinship relationships. Kinship diagrams generally depict Ego, who can be either male or female, at the center or top of the layout. These diagrams represent Ego’s immediate family, including parents, siblings, and potentially extended relatives. Six systems classify kin based on their relation to Ego, while four additional systems focus on Ego’s parental generation.
Each kinship diagram provides a visual representation of relationships, where Ego typically appears as a triangle or circle, connecting to relatives like brothers (Br), sisters (Si), fathers (Fa), and mothers (Mo).
In genealogical contexts, research may include historical records like birth certificates and immigration data related to the Ego family. Kinship terminology categorizes names indicating kin relationships and the system often emphasizes the relationship of individuals to Ego. The diagrams reflect the social structure around Ego, identifying relationships extending up to four generations. The significance of Ego in these diagrams is crucial, as all relationships are referenced through this individual, making Ego a focal point for understanding familial arrangements. In all types of kinship diagrams, ego represents the central figure from which genealogical connections diverge, highlighting the interconnectedness of family ties.
What Is An Ego In A Family Tree?
Kinship diagrams, also known as kinship charts, visualize relationships within families. They typically feature an individual labeled as Ego, who serves as the focal point for illustrating kinship connections. In the provided example, Ego has various immediate family members: a brother (Br), sister (Si), father (Fa), and mother (Mo). These diagrams can trace lineage over multiple generations, often extending to four generations, with the positioning of Ego representing the third generation.
Specific symbols, such as triangles or circles, are used to denote Ego and differentiate between male and female relatives, facilitating an understanding of familial roles. Although similar to family trees, kinship diagrams emphasize the structure of relationships rather than individual ancestry or descendants. The use of clear markers helps depict relationships distinctly, allowing users to visualize cultural, familial, and societal patterns within a kinship system.
Kinship terminology, like "maternal grandfather," provides context for navigating relationships in the diagram. The study of kinship is not only of interest in anthropology and sociology but also serves practical purposes for individuals researching their lineage. As such, assembling a kinship diagram begins with identifying Ego and mapping out their relatives based on genealogical ties. Overall, kinship diagrams are effective tools for illustrating and understanding family connections across generations.
What Is The Gender Symbol On A Family Tree?
Genograms use specific symbols to represent family relationships and dynamics, going beyond traditional family trees. In a genogram, males are depicted as squares, while females are represented by circles. A horizontal line connects these symbols to illustrate family units, with children placed below from oldest to youngest, arranged left to right. Unlike standard family trees, which primarily list names, genograms highlight emotional, social, and medical histories within families.
Developed in the 1980s by Dr. Robert Young and Dr. Thomas O'Neil, genogram symbols provide a visual tool for understanding complex family structures, making them useful in psychology, family therapy, and genetics. Basic symbols categorize gender, birth, age, and relationships, with additional symbols denoting specific attributes like health conditions. For instance, shaded symbols indicate affected family members, while unshaded ones represent those without certain conditions, such as heart disease.
Genograms not only serve genealogical purposes but also capture behavioral patterns and medical histories, offering insights into familial interactions. Thus, they serve as valuable resources for analyzing emotional relationships and generational connections within a family context, enabling a deeper understanding of family dynamics and histories.
How To Read A Kinship Chart?
A kinship diagram visually represents familial relationships, using geometric shapes to denote gender: triangles for males, circles for females, and squares for nonspecific gender. Lines indicate immediate relationships, while symbols like X or / can represent deaths or broken ties. These diagrams, also known as kinship charts, serve a similar purpose as family trees and pedigree charts by illustrating connections within a family or extended family.
To construct a kinship diagram, gather as much family information as possible, assigning shapes to different family members and connecting them with lines to show their relationships. Tips for navigating these diagrams include understanding their symbols and using templates from software like Lucidchart or EdrawMax for ease of creation. Kinship diagrams are beneficial for ethnographic research, genealogy, and anthropology, offering insight into blood relations and social connections across cultures.
A kinship report may accompany these diagrams, detailing individual family members and their direct relations to a common ancestor. To interpret a kinship diagram, one must identify the subject (termed EGO) and decode the associated symbols, colors, and relationships displayed. Overall, kinship diagrams are essential tools for visualizing and understanding complex familial structures and interactions.
What Exactly Is Ego?
The ego represents the conscious mind and is central to a person's identity, often referred to as the "self." It plays a crucial role in psychology, mediating between the superego and the id while engaging with reality. In Freud's psychoanalytic theory, the ego is the part of personality that experiences the "I" and interacts with the external world. It encompasses individual thoughts, beliefs, attitudes, and values, forming a complex system of mental processes involved in self-justification and self-esteem.
The concept also highlights distinctions among egoism, egotism, egocentrism, and egoicism. An inflated ego may lead to egotism, where individuals perceive themselves as superior. Essentially, the ego contributes to our self-worth, influencing how we navigate our emotions and behaviors. This understanding of the ego is essential for grasping our sense of identity and the dynamics of our conscious mind, encompassing our fears, insecurities, and the aspects that define who we are.
What Does Ego Mean In A Kinship Diagram?
In kinship diagrams, an individual referred to as "Ego" serves as the focal point for illustrating kinship relationships. Ego can be represented as a triangle or circle, indicating gender nonspecificity, and is interconnected to various family members including a brother (Br), sister (Si), father (Fa), and mother (Mo). Kinship diagrams, or charts, visualize lineage akin to family trees or pedigree charts, enabling a clear representation of family connections. To create a kinship diagram, position Ego centrally and draw lines to family members, distinguishing females as circles and males as triangles for clarity.
The representation of relationships in kinship diagrams is structured around the central figure, Ego, whose role is pivotal in understanding familial ties. Cultural anthropologists utilize these diagrams during interviews to succinctly depict kinship patterns without extensive explanations. For clarity, especially in complex diagrams, markers may be added to indicate relationships with Ego specifically.
The kinship structure allows one to highlight various relationships and the significance of each member within the family framework. By beginning with Ego, users can systematically add relatives, ensuring all connections are accurately represented. The kinship diagram serves as a valuable tool for both personal understanding of family ties and for scholarly anthropological analysis, streamlining the process of presenting intricate kinship dynamics in diverse cultures.
What Does The Ego Represent?
The ego represents the psychological aspect of personality connected to conscious decision-making, balancing the instinctual urges of the id and the moral standards of the superego. These three components—ego, id, and superego—interact to shape our behavior. The ego prevents impulsive actions driven by the id while striving for equilibrium with our ideals and conscience. Sigmund Freud's theory elaborates that the ego operates on the reality principle, enabling individuals to connect with the external world and self-identity.
It encompasses functions like judgment and reality testing, essential for social interactions and self-justification. The concept of ego manifests in various psychological contexts, influencing our sense of self-esteem, self-worth, and overall personality. Furthermore, the term "ego" derives from the Latin meaning "I," underscoring its role in defining personal identity against external realities.
Understanding the ego helps navigate ego dynamics and conflicts in interpersonal relations, making it a vital element in psychoanalytic theory. Ultimately, the ego is crucial for mediating between primal desires and social norms, thus shaping thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
Does Ego Have A Brother Or Sister?
In the described kinship case, Ego has a diverse family comprising a brother (Br), sister (Si), father (Fa), and mother (Mo), with Ego depicted as gender nonspecific. Relationships are organized around Ego, who is equally descended from both parents. Additionally, Ego's maternal and paternal cousins are identified as cross cousins. In anthropological terms, Ego's socially recognized father is referred to as "pater," representing the significant role of the father in Ego’s identity.
The concept of Ego extends into psychology, where it embodies an individual's self-identity and self-importance, influencing perceptions of self and others. In various kinship systems, siblings and cousins may use similar terminology, indicating close relational ties. Ego's role often serves to mediate decisions and conflicts among family members, emphasizing its cognitive and motivational functions.
In popular culture, Ego is notably recognized as a character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), being the Celestial father of Peter Quill (Star-Lord) and Mantis. Their familial connection underscores the complexities of Ego's character, who has multiple children from various liaisons. As the plot unfolds, connections reveal the shared lineage, making Mantis and Star-Lord half-siblings, further enhancing the narrative of familial dynamics in superhero lore.
How Do I Record Ego'S Parents And Ancestors?
To create a kinship diagram, starts with documenting "Ego's" relationships. Place Ego at the center, where you will record the parents and ancestors above, siblings on the same level, and descendants below. Use shapes from flowchart libraries, utilizing circles for females and triangles for males, to visualize these connections effectively. For unmarried parents, platforms like Ancestry allow you to modify relationships to depict such situations accurately.
The diagram should illustrate not only Ego's immediate family but also extended relatives such as grandparents and cousins, helping visualize lineage. Asserting the equality of both parents in Ego's descent adds depth to this representation, expanding the number of ancestors displayed.
To enrich the genealogical analysis, consider gathering family history through various resources, including community announcements and online genealogy databases. Engaging with relatives can also provide invaluable insights. Additionally, exploring DNA options can uncover connections and validate parentage. When capturing family stories and genealogy knowledge, choose between video and audio formats, ensuring the comfort of the subject. The goal is to preserve heritage while making connections clear and comprehensible for future generations, fostering understanding of one's familial background and cultural identity.
Your ego is to help you make change and move forward in your life. It is more prevalent when we are younger because we need to drive our live in the right direction. It is a great tool. As we age, like the old bald guy professor, our egos tend to start to diminish as we see that we don’t actually need it. In todays world many people do not like coming out of their comfort zone and therefore their ego will kick in and make a million and one excuses to get out of the situation. The ego is important as it helps you move into places you may not have done without it. It is also important to know that you should not use it on any other human. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

This life living in the physical in the body allows us to understand what we are on a deeper level, like the show says going with in the deeper level to what we really are, theres no other way this wouldnt have happened, we learn the term you dont always get what you want but you get what you need really means and how powerful it is, and life lessons and lessons in love can only happen in this life and learn how special that is, but it allows us to learn about us and go with in, ive always hated myself for crossdressing and always tried to stop but coudnt, my step dad didnt like it about me and told me when i was 18 i dont care you do it just never do it around me, and ive always suppressed myself and hated myself in a way but it would never stop, the souls not created that way. ive learned love comes from with in, you need to learn to love you and love your good your bad and appreciate you for you, you may learn you want to work on yourself things from trauma like over reacting about alot feeling like you dont have control but learning to gain control. But you open your mind to the uniqueness of humanity as a whole and realize we are all human but have different things we are capable of, our brains are so beautiful, ive learned from my last year how a woman across from me at work asked why me and my gf broke up, and i didnt care at this point, i took her to be like my step dad and said screw it, nothing can get worse than this so i told her i crossdress and her amazing reaction about it and how amazing she reacted to it inspired my soul to get out of its hole, my journey of self love and everything beyond it in loving humanity as a hole and just realizing if i can spread the word help us heal help the world heal there would never be war again i just know, i know this message ive learned in my travels the beauty in it of finding my true self through so much pain is just so beautiful, the gift of love and learning we are beings of love, being human, i just want to help people understand how amazing it is to be them and help them learn and understand the brain through how it talks to us, my brains been showing me images, fixing issues through showing me these images for my life to make peace with my hurt and pain and take the good away from it from realizing where all the pain came from and realizing it was never me and take away the good you can so you can make peace and move on with your journey, i cant help past that but i can help you get to were you need by your soul waking up and feeling like a rocket taking off, its still not easy, but you realize this journey will always be worth it dont give up
The ego or “I” is an absolutely essential aspect of the Soul. The whole reason you are in this dualistic world is to individuate or to develop as an individual. We become the choices we make in each moment. After 30 years of spiritual awakening, meditation, and spiritual practice, I can say unequivocally that the ego has its origins in the evolving Soul. The spiritual life is not even possible without a strong enough ego. The ego become integrated with the Soul….the shadow is integrated with the ego. The Being becomes a unitary integrated Self that has a fully developed individuality and which is manifesting the Soul energy/consciousness on Earth.
I really needed some of this enlightenment. I was suffering from not understanding I am going through a temporary ego death. I feel like this cycle is finally rounding out, as I am seeking understanding of why I am always perceiving reality as a whole to the universe, instead of a singular being. I will work on this now I know it is in fact a cycle that we can experience while we are alive. Thank you so much.
Ego is when one mistakes his Consciousness for his thoughts instead of being the Awareness in which they occur which creates a separate identity (the parable of the wave believing it is separate from the ocean) that exist only in thought past and future ( memory and imagination ) and it always needs to seek outside stimuli sex, drugs, movies, money, looks etc… but is never fulfilled and in the pursuit of these pleasures it creates suffering for itself and others. So how can one transcend this mind made identity : Other than practical thinking don’t give energy to your thoughts just be aware of them without judgement and this observation can only occur in this moment and through this observation comes an understanding which puts and end to it. This is the transition from egoic into universal consciousness. Books I’d recommend : The power of now / Anything by J.krishnamurti.
Thank you for explaining the origins of confusing ideas I’ve entertained regarding the Ego. I have finally come to a place that really aligns with the way you have defined (as well as it can be) the slippery Ego. Balance seems key to living a full life and the Ego is no exception. Thank you for your amazing articles!! 🥰
Thank you for making these great articles.they are very easy to follow complicated ideas while keeping a open understanding. Through all of my experience in life which started as a Jehovah’s Witness with me getting baptized at 12 years old. My question started as early as I could remember and I feel That manipulation caused me to question everything and now is a man 39 years old I can truly say I’m happy because I see who and what I am. I now experience my life from the perspective that I am A infinite being that has been blessed with the opportunity to experience life in this physical realm through this material body. And it is trying to know itself just as I/source/god is trying to know itself. It is the same type of miracle on a different level. We share this space inside this body. Trying to draw a line between us is futile because we have been made one and we both have intentions for this body, both deserve there time in control to serve there interests. My physical self wants to explore and create in its physical realm and my Etherical self wants to explore and create in its realm. Both raising the understanding of self and everything else. And now that my eye is open I feel and identify myself more often from the higher perspective of myself looking out at my human wondering why am I feeling this way now, and the gives me the opportunity correct my behavior and ensure I am allowing only the constructive positive energy flow through me into this realm no matter the medium currently am playing in.
I’m glad you mentioned the Ascended Masters who return to 3D because they missed the feeling of physical incarnation. I spent much of my life “pursuing” enlightenment and, when I fully experienced a return to Brahman (or Godhead or Source or whatever you wish to call it) I realized that HERE, in my ego, was actually what I Desired. And that incarnation is actually a product of the Source of all Creation, experiencing Desire, and thus Manifesting a means of fulfilling said Desire. We all return to ONE. So enjoy separation in the Moment. Or, if you are ready, go back to the Source. But, if you are here, I feel its because you have chosen to be here. We just forget, because we must believe in the Illusion of Maya to experience Separation. And Polarity is cool cause we get to hug each other and shit. Or punch people. Whatever your thing is. It’s all Good because its All for the sake of Experience.
I personally believe that the Ego is the self we show to those close to us, our Super Ego is what we want strangers to think we are (and maybe even who we want to be), and the Id is who we are in our minds, when you have angry or criminal thoughts before making the decision to do or not do the correlated action.
I believe EGO is survival. It always pushes me to where I have the best probabilities of surviving and therefore keeping everything for myself. EGO is a term to describe the “lowest” form of intelligence and functions of the brain / body mind. So, spiritual awakening is for me the realization that our senses can perceive only a part of this world so there must be something more out there. When you look into it you see that on scale there is so much more of that world that you can’t perceive with your senses. So you realize that when you play with the mind that belongs in what you can perceive (EGO), then you play by the rules of this world. But when you play with that deeper sense of reality and you start to exercise your intuition (the sense of that which cannot perceived by your senses), you see that you can manifest anything in this world without the limitation of it’s rules. You also realize that nothing has happened to you but you manifested all your life till now. Go live with that and love the present moment because you only exist (live) here. Thank you. (Some things I talk about are proven with modern physics. Like “the field” which some call that higher sense of reality is the quantum field of all possibilities that we exist in it. Joe Dispenza does a great job explaining that concepts. Bruce Lipton too. Check them out! )
The idea of new age idea of the Ego being a bad entity, called lower self, and the idea of a higher self. All but masculine mental seperation. If you let go of your identity and only believe in a higher self you don’t are, but have to achieve. You get nowhere…. you get a feeling of emptiness. You have to ACCEPT YOUR FLAWS. Yes your WILD Yes your a human being! A being of flesh which is formed of light. IF YOU WISH TO BE ENLIGHTENED? Don’t push your shadow away, don’t deny your EGO. Accept it, and then transcend it and understand you are everything. You can’t transcend something you push away or deny. Yes your a wild animal? SO what! Your also an enlightened soul that is inhabiting the human body which has to remember it IS enlightened all along. Life is a game of hide and seek. SO GET OUT OF HIDING. Thank you.
And that’s just it.. as long as you are here, you have an ego. It is inevitable and inescapable. You may quiet it or silence it at times, but it does not die until you do, and even then it may be a part of soul on some level. The best we can hope for, is to be aware of ourselves, our thinking patterns, our actions and reactions, practice awareness, empathy, and compassion, and not let the ego completely take the reigns.
The beginning of this article was quite clear explaining that whatever you understand as ego it is your own explanation. So Freud and Jung had different views on this. For me, there is no point in denying the ego as it is your own tool to experience the world and to transform it. It’s through conscious thought (ego) that you might impress the unconscious mind. And the unconscious mind is your connection to the whole. By impressing the unconscious mind, you can impress the whole, and therefore you create your own reality.
The ego is like wearing pants, you dont really need them, if you dont wear pants you wont die or anything, but if you arent wearing pants in public it could get you in trouble, maybe someone will get mad and attack you, or the police will arrest you or something. There is a time and a place (and a people) to not be wearing pants. You are not the pants, but they’re an useful tool to survive between humans. The great bird spirit taught me this and it has been a very useful way of separating myself from the ego, but keep wearing it to have fun in the world. If someone throws wine upon my pants, i dont get mad, because it doesn’t matter, they are just pants, and you can clean them later. Hope this idea helps someone to find balance with their ego
I believe the ego brings to light that is robbing one from center. Once one knows how to have the ego work with themselves (ego is not you) one can get rid of what is causing the brain to be distracted and reconnect with the heart. I look at the ego like a computer and the ram. Once restarting the computer, you remove all that was bogging down the computer that was on the ram (wiped clean). It helps to purge negative and positive emotions in the brain. Which allows the heart to open up for new experiences and not grasping for what has already happen. The memory with always be there but the emotions will be removed. One has to lose all to have all. Everything is nothing. Everybody is nobody. Have to know the difference between self and self.
To me the ego is just a bodyguard for the most tender part of yourself. It is a mask we wear on our soul to protect us from all perceived hurt, harm, or danger. When a person finally has the courage to take the mask off and Stop trying to hide him or her true self that is where the EGO It’s truly tamed and set free at the exact same time and life really begins. Just my thought. I’m still learning so y’all be gentle with me.
I’d like to say that defining the ego as the body of concepts, beliefs, emotions, and thought processes that are defined and identified by source of consciousness is very useful. Then what can be done to describe different egos is to say whether they are not self-aware, self-aware, individually, environmentally, or universally focused. Then they can also be described as secure, incidentally insecure, disidentified (meaning deeply lost in self), enlightened (meaning secure and universally focused), and maybe infinite or perfected ego/soul body (meaning dispersed ego that is universally focused and identifies with timeless absolutes). Sound good, opinions?
Great article. I’m definitely leaning towards the demiurge/upanishads path. Everything for better or worse is exactly as it should be until it changes for better or worse when it becomes exactly as it should be. I am a spirit in search of experience. I embrace the highest motives of man to create. I have faith which signifies that I live a spiritual life. I overcome adversity with an open heart and an open mind.
Thank you for this article, it is great to know that more and more individuals are opening up to spirituality. But let me just add, the purpose of plant ceremonies, psylocibin etc is not to kill the ego but to experience ego death and MORE beyond that. It is just a part of the experience. Well just wanted to straighten that out 😁😁😁 Have a good life everyone ❤️
ego is nothing else but a result of mixing our emotions, souls urge, and a way of thinking (which is mostly a social construct) in order to survive as a being.. It emerges when we “compete” for a “mate” and for our security (friends, finances, job etc.). More and more people are getting aware of their emotions and what’s triggering them, they are also figuring out their thinking patterns which leaves out your soul, which is the voice and the reason why you are perusal this article and reading this comment in the first place. Follow that voice, you wouldn’t hear it if you weren’t intended to..
Nothing indeed exists by mere chance and the concept of ‘point of view’/’perspective’ is one I’ve dabbled with for decades. Just like we have ‘parallax’ when observing the (known) cosmos, I see it as the Universal Consciousness living and being aware of googles of experiences simultaneously. Each and every one is different and yet pat of the same…
ego death is my base level, lol Though my ego is still here, interacting with the world just as my body is too. I’ve found that ego transcendence means that ultimately there is no you to be but also is important to come to the understanding that it IS you too. It’s non-dual, existing together as you AND not you, you can get to know yourself as an other and your sellf will know you too. my understanding of ego is that it is a collection of ideas that you use to identify yourself, what you are, what you’re not and it’s just as alive as the body is. The ego needs to defend itself when encountering contrary thoughts or else it will die and change as well, some parts of ego transcendence is letting yourself change and restructure your own sense of self to fit with the world around too. I’ve noticed that the Ego isn’t just about your own self but you develop egos for other things too, like how/what other people are/aren’t, what objects are and the very universe itself. you can know these objects fully through their Ego but you can also let go of the notions you thought you knew and see down the the very soul of what something is, learning and shaping your understanding of it more and more, and in turn it will know you like you know it.
The ego is the sum of all our individual experiences from this life time that allows us to learn the lessons we need from this lifetime. Without ego we would be like communist lemmings and have no purpose. Duality is required therefor for us to be an expression of the Creator’s love so that collectively we can learn and grow and create our own reality. Heaven is inside is, if we project the pure light of Love (not corrupted fear based love), then the universe rewards us by manifesting our intentions – sometimes instantly, sometimes over lifetimes. Buddha wasn’t saying the soul or ego doesn’t exist, he transcended that ideology of separation, time and duality. His meaning has fallen on deaf ears as they did t have ears to listen back then. But the message was clear – duality has to exist in order for us to remember who we are via our experiences in life (ego). Once we become aware and start the journey of ascension, we learn to reject this notion of ego V spirit, and we become united as one being in control of our physical and spiritual faculties and from there, the only way is up. In saying this, we can’t all spend our days meditating under a tree requiring dozens of others to serve us so that we might continue our quest. Instead, Jesus taught balance and instructed us on how to bring Heaven to Earth and how once we do this, we will become as Steiner said: Supermen. Within 2-3 generations, humanity won’t be recognisable compared to today. Spirituality will be served just as much as the physical – and once we do this, the Libra (7th era) will finally bring about the rapture (death of mankind’s old ways), and the awakening of humanity to our true purpose.
Ego is related to our wounded child, it is like a filter to our reality, so the Ego is capable of tracking all collective inconcious frequencies, and comunicate with us, not always the more councious way, so the Ego is really like someone, that is trying to alert us about something that might hurt us, in its vision, most of the time deturped. So thats why sometimes, when our Self is on the shadows of our psyche, the Ego might be agressive, it may scream and make dramas, because it is a wounded child that is just trying to warn you about something that it thinks it will bring suffering for the Self, in a more conscious look, it will be trying to tell you to give a better look on those situations. The thing is, that Ego is connected to the Collective Inconscious, so it captures those thoughts and feelings that other people are having about us, so the Ego is really important for our Self, and most important to have a good relation with it, that way it wont scream or make dramas, it will dialogue with us, that is why we must be good friends with our egos and talk to it, dont let it talking by itself, because we cannot kill it, it is a part of us, so we better be friends!
It’s my avatar! LOL! My “Electronic-Go” vessel, what’s hosting my consciousness and “subconscious”… consisting of or along with some other forms of different consciousness that seem to come and go depending upon the state of mind. We (the elect) are the heavenly host… Whom happen to be “God”, itself, broken into 144k pieces to observe and monitor the upcoming events. We’ve been setting everything up this entire time without realizing it… just by being here! We’re capable of generating HUGE amounts of creative “juices” via thought, alone (achieved by others thru meditation)… and it’s automatically sent out into fruition! 144,000 of us is equal to the power generated by the rest of humanity, combined! Only half are “corrupted” and very few of the other “savable” half are aware of anything at all beyond the 5 basic senses. No wonder it’s gotten so chaotic! We’re the “antivirus” here to purge the wicked, bringing Heaven to Earth and a new Golden Age to humanity! Christ HAS returned in flex-mode and is ready to usher in a new dawn!!!
And all this happens on the same place, the same place where we can find our true being, the “thing” that makes us humans, a brain that represents our very identity in this world. For me, the true way of treating the ego is accepting it as part of us but not before understanding what truly is. The most important thing of all, for me, is to push a bit by bit those things that belongs on the unconscious to the conscious to be able to understand ourselves a bit more at each step and know a bit more of what is going on on the other side 😀
Ego is to make us individualized, to make us different from others while we are here but the truth is we are all the same because we are all spirit incarnated here as humans to experience, we separated from the whole to experience human life, we all came from the source. So this ego is used for a little while here. The problem is when we attach our beingness to it or our ego attaches to something in us because it cannot stand alone, it fears its own death so we defend it, we attack others who attack our ego, we identify with it thinking that that’s all we are. But we have to always remember that we are more than the physical body. Our spirits will live on but the body and ego won’t. I learned this from perusal NDE experience, once they come back they become less egoic, less materialism, less interested in status and competition, less ego attachment. More compassion, spirituality and love. Maybe because they know there is life after death? But I don’t know how to integrate it fully into my life yet.
I just made a article on the ego on this website. It’s weird how so many can go through life without knowing about that little voice in their head constantly narrating everything they do or feel. The ego isn’t necessarily good or bad, it just is. You’ll always have the ego, it’s about recognising when it’s being harsh or judgemental towards yourself and others.
Asking what ego is is relative to asking what Spirit is. It’s like saying what tails is, relative to heads, Or what back is, as if there were no front, and so on. Ego, to me (the infinite point of nothingness forever at our heart center), is the whole of form/beingness and from an individual standpoint of it that is relative to all individual standpoints. Ego can become bad if it allows itself to remain thinking/feeling it is separate from the All/Spirit (making the individual a walking corpse). But when it turns and sees that when seen from “the other side” (“true death” “end of the universe/existence/all things”) being at all is a blessing just of itself, enabling our ego to live *wholly spirited*, i.e. *fearless*. Though you can’t really “kill your ego” any more or less than you can commit suicide (or, as Alan Watts puts it, you can’t sneak up and catch a fugitive while banging a drum; he sees you coming and runs to safety). Perhaps we change the concept/label of “ego death” into “inverse consciousness”, as in, remember that I/Eye came from nothing, am ever mostly nothing/space, and will inevitably come back to once again being nothing. Though good luck with feeling that truth as an instinctual knowing, because clearly we are not nothing, but something. What? As far as I can tell, when we choose to be, combined with what The All chooses us to be. Nothing, as a thing, HAPPENS by accident (ego death does not happen on purpose, because it’s reintegration with the nothingness WE ARE), nothing/no one cannot create purposeful, because what could it create with?
I think the Buddhist attitude towards “the self” or lack thereof, is meant to address the way our minds work, what I mean is, if there is a “higher self” in the teaching, it can simply become another concept for the mind to identify with, and that’s not self transcendence or spiritual awakening, it’s telling oneself the story of one’s spiritual awakening. So to my understanding, many of the Buddhist teachings give guidelines on “how to seek” or observe, but not what to “look for” because it can’t be conceptualized without turning into just a concept. Similarly, in Kabbalah, God is described as “Ein Sof”, directly translated as “no end”, meaning infinite, no affirmative descriptive statements, as “we cannot say what he is, we can only say what he’s not, not finite.”. I don’t know if the two teachings are compatible, I heard the methodologies are different. I thought I’d just point out a perceived similarity. To me, the Ego is first and foremost just as the literal translation from Latin says, exactly like the word “I”, what’s referred to by the word “I” and the story surrounding it. In the article you did a pretty good job touching the definition of ego in psychology, hopefully clearing many of the popular misconceptions. I just wish you’d started with the literal translation.
I completely destroyed my ego. Life is simple, relationships aren’t a priority in my life right now, and I’m not gonna throw myself at the the first woman that does the same to me. I have my priorities set, I know what I want to do in life, I just need a few things to get there. I don’t need much, the things you own end up owning you so why bother. Life is great, 😌 easy, keep yourself busy, calm, tranquil. Stop if you need to, Breathe to your own vibration. Anywho, life will never be the same for me in a great way, now that I have solidified my mind I can move forward in life as if I was walking on air. 🦋🐝
If in Hermetic tradition, as above so below, then the human condition is built of the same construct as the universe, which can be gathered into three spheres of existence/perception; spiritual, mental and physical. Ego is therefore the physical aspect of the three and like Nostic tradition, where it is personified as the demiurge, it’s purpose is to drive us away from the divine self towards physical attachment. The reason for this is the reason for the snake in the garden of Eden; it is your duty as an experiencer of the spiritual universe to overcome the temptations of ego, and therefore of physical attachment, and prove yourself worthy of the higher self. Therefore ego is the protector of divine life until you prove yourself worthy. Don’t seek to kill ego, seek to stop it controlling your decisions, understand it’s cycle and rise above it.
I feel like the ego is like the brain operating and doing it’s job to analyze, question, make decisions, worry, fear things, etc. it’s the brain doing it’s job in coherence with your consciousness? Which is maybe what is interpreted as the battle between the heart and the mind, and logic with intuition?
I am thinking…ego ego ego..and my personal explination is that the EGO is strictly created in this lifetime, is evolving as we grow in life and it’s how we see ouselves and everything around us through our EGO. It’s like a filter which was created by OUR experiences. I am trying to be open about it and i am waiting for a perfect explination that would draw a clear image of it in my mind..
The ego is the unconscious will of an individual. As humans we are shifting from unconscious to conscious. The ego evolved inn humans to allow collective cooperation. The ego is the part that allows humans to lead and persuade others. This is why early humans organized and worked together. It was a survival mechanism that was required to develop to survive as humans do not have the ability to survive on their own due to a lack of specialized physical capabilities. Over time humans have learned intelligence which replaces the lack of physical adaptations. Ego is a phase humanity needed to pass through to bridge the gap between unconscious and conscious existence. Many humans still are unconsciously rooted in ego. Ego death to me isn’t ending the ego. It is more a realization that the ego is a choice. It’s The gap between the stimulus and the egos automated reaction. Once a humanhas established a gap between stimulus and knee jerk reaction that is significant enough to make a conscious choice that is in a way ego death as the conscious human is now at the controls instead of the emotional reactionary ego which usually makes ignorant choices based on perceived emotions.

Observing the ego from Buddhist/Tibetan Buddhist lens, the ego seems to be spoken of only in a context as to not put effort into the thoughts generated by this system, in order to access the Natural Mind being eternal and infinite. Doing this will access clarity and intuition, like letting the diry in a glass of muddy water settle to the bottom to find clear water. I agree though that this is not the full story and the ego is important in modern day society for navigating and communicating, expressing opinions and creating fun in social settings. It is hard for me to figure out the balance
In my perspective the ego is not a bad thing, i think is just our personal consciousness of the reality and it can take awareness of both the uncounscious thought (our colective shadow and programming) and the subconscious thought (our colective higher self, god) so in my opinion the enlightened path is to balance both aspects of ourself by simply making them conscious. The only way our ego can die is by integrating our shadow (unconscious) not denying it because that way it will only grow bigger.
For me a large disagreement I have within the psychedelic community is my belief that the ego is an existent force of self. No matter how much we can learn and experience, the ego version of me is always there, just not always as amplified as it can be. But our individual true self are attached to the all which to me means we all have individual life as much as we all are connected simultaneously to the 1 all. To me the ego goal is to match your spirit or soul self. That is why I believe consciousness including ego and soul awareness is learning self within matter… This may not be fully understandable as it is just a comment, but I did my best with how much patience I have to do this
The idea of ego is the idead of separation . It isn’t in a sense real but is happening. Everything identifies with I in order to be put in a place of function in the universe. The effect of medicines is to blend ones ego in with over all ego. The cosmic I through your I and eyes. When you feel your “ego death” which we would honestly suggest to stop calling it. You are experiencing the merging together of the universe or spirit. But even spirit has in a sense ego. Because its the UNI verse. One verse in a song with multiple vibrations breaking of from one point. We can call it the focal point of existence, singularity, the all seeing “I” that sees my self. Killing your ego is impossible because it is the only way for a multiplicity of different species, planets, stars and everything that fits within the singular ego. Ego is not something to get rid of its in a sense something to expand beyond our being to the universal being. Blend in with our surroundings. Blend in with our being. Our only being. This interpretation is brought to us by this article. And we thank you 🙏🏼🪐 love everyone! See us all soon 🙂
7:30 It’s like saying that we’re all from our own dimensions yeah we came to this dimension still interacting from our own dimension, just in the same space and in this dimension to where we have a God+creator that created everything yet in our own dimension we are that God+creator so I can see how the Buddhist would say that there is no other God+creator because we are that God creator in our own dimension
A simple understanding of the Ego for me is: the Body consciousness given to us by our parents. Meaning mom and dad create our biology/body as well as its consciousness which is contained of mom & dad’s ancestry lineage thus we inherit their behaviour, attitude, temperament, qualities, habits etc, why because we have those cells consciousness in our body. Our life force/soul essence/light body is not given by mom & dad, it comes after we come out of mom’s tummy, that is why babies cry only after they are out of mom’s body, that’s when the soul is infused. The rest you will to figure it out yourself.
Ego is what you make it be but we always have our soul/consciousness that we all share and connects us while your ego is your own no one has the SAME ego all variations depends on your choices an what you chose to perceive wich is what will define u as an individual creating your ego. Consciousness/soul etc is what binds or the “glue” of the universe cause without consciousness there would be no ego or universe cause who or what would be able to be aware of any existence. These words can barely describe what I mean but our consciousness will understand. Ego is what makes everyone different or individuals that are all connected to a universeral frequency/consciousness
I don’t think most traditions actually say to kill the ego. I heard it put best by Alan Watts in saying that enlightenment is not wanting nothing, it is the lack of attachment in no-thing. Being able to look at our ego from an outside perspective and let the thoughts be no more or less important than the noises in our environment is the detachment from the ego. It has never been to kill it, but instead to know it for what it is. We are all facets of the Universe which seeks to know itself. If what we are is trying to know itself in new ways, why should it be wrong for us to use our ego as a stepping stone to be looked at, so that, in time and practice, we can look at more of who we are, beyond just the ego?
Every being has an impermanent self No permanent being, soul, self… The real self, liberation from suffering. I guess the divine self, ananda – is all “selves” but in this physical dimension, the illusion “separated” for the most. Oneness with creation, universe, ego-death Enlightenment by disidentifying and unconditional love +letting go But using the ego – mind – love – not being used by it So conclusion: Using the mind, accepting it and using consciousness to be in light and love ☀️☀️☀️☀️ A representation or a part of the transcendent reality – brahman – always changing creation – life 💚☀️🌈Whats ego, do we need to fight or friendship it, letting go like a old friends maybe – we identify as individuals, physically – but we are one in the core and atomic subatomic, energy level We can harmonise energies, mood, and molecules We turn a banana into cells and a part of us 💚☀️ Book: the undiscovered self
Ego is such a wide subject but still something we all experience. We all have to be part of our ego in order to survive and live in harmony with our surroundings, humans and animals. The ego create the intentions for who, what and where you wanna be. I think what the hardest part of understanding the ego is balance. What is good for a healthy ego and what is bad? Any thoughts?:)
Many wonderful blessings of higher consciousness, awesome awareness, advanced knowledge, overcoming spirituality along with divine wisdom of the soul source. All is energy. Eternal energy. Infinite possibilities throughout all levels, dimensions and perceptions of consciousness in all aspects of creative creation. I believe the ego to be a masterpiece tool of creation consciousness. A construction of operations as in operating type of system of all spacial realities to establish the unique individualized seemingly separate personal property experience perceptions. Without the ego the illusion of the other would not be sustainable. I view this overall overlapping cooperative creation processes in all variety of informational content realities as an elaborate amusement park. Recommended viewing good science fiction stories. (All 79 episodes of Star Trek TOS 1966~1969) Classic Star Trek TOS Season 1 episode 15 Shore leave. “The more complex the mind the more the need for play” Peace, love and Joy in total freedom in of all wonderful aspects of life’s abundance.
Think back to when you were young before material objects mattered to you. you have a personality but you didn’t have an ego. An ego comes with influence and personal decisions. If you are to search deep within yourself you’ll find that your values are primarily the same as the ones that you had as a child. Your wants, morals and desires.
To me the ego is a information mechanism that involves the body and experience, emotions and intelligence. I cant see exactly what it is but ill say this. I was born andny life felt like i had one mind. Then i got older and took psychedelics and went to heaven, when i returned i noticed i had 2 minds all along and that 2nd mind was the mind i had identified as but then transcemded to be dettached from it for a short time then being reattached when i reentered this Game. I dont know much about ego, i just know about awareness and its different levels.
Ego- this is the topic that not many of the YouTuber deals in a scientific way. Thanks for creating the article for us. I am a huge fan of this website and being very true to you, you are my inspiration and the reason I love science. Not coping you but trying to walk in your path I created my website recently. The name of the website is SCIENCE BEAST. Though it is a small website. I am happy with my progress. I need support. I am aim is to grow my website like yours one day.
I think Budda was saying there is no permanent self because that would require something to not be included in the all; the way self was described would mean the existence of something that is not self, there would be boundaries which imply duality. But the later texts encouraged knowledge of self; as a path to understanding the non-duality (bc learning about self ultimately leads to an understanding of unity, that we are pieces of the Whole experiencing this world in a physical body, sort of thing.) Does that make sense? I don’t think the texts have opposing views, just different context.
Ego is an illusion, and there is no soul, for we are all one, one being, not a soul separate from the universe but are the universe. The idea of a soul is but an idea made up by the ego, which is that of an illusion made from our mind. You get too lost in your mind the thing that creates illusions that is separate from reality that you can not see the truth.
There are multiple levels of ego. Plato was right. There’s the body and its associated appetites. Then there’s the spirit or soul and its passions, emotions, etc. But beyond that is the true higher self, the mind, true consciousness. Enlightenment, or justice, is the harmony of these three, with the mind, the higher self, in charge, and spirit keeping the appetitive part of the soul under control. Ego death is not the destruction of the ego, but rather its taming. You learn to have your higher, permanent self rule over the lower selves, and by doing so, you attain true peace and true self mastery. Body and soul are impermanent. They die eventually. And when they do, you are no longer manifest in this world. But there is still the higher self that is a part of Brahman, the godhead, or what Plato called the form of the good. That is truly eternal, but not unchanging.
That was an Awesome article Spirit Science! Individualization, and/or the dissolving the ego entirely, is quite the difference between different religions. Kemetism, the Egyptian religion, depicts components of soul as well, you may like the below if you are instered in the full breakdown of all mechanics: Ka (vital spark) Ba (soul personality) Sah (spiritual construct) Ren (hidden name) Khat (physical body) Ib (heart of true intention) Akhu (archetype of fullness, intellect) Khaibit (shadow self) Sechem (vital life force) Shuyet (shadow of soul like a ghost) Bau (presence and voice of a god) This journey with the phyicial body (Khat) you operate, your personality (Ba) and vital essence of the double spiritual/higher self spart (Ka). That relationship begins at birth, with a Ka and and an underdeveloped and growing Ba. Humans give you your ‘God given name’ but your Ren (hidden name) holds purpose, and that name is the spiritual name of your archetype beyond the veil and higher self. You also hae a Sah which is a spiritual body, along with your Khat or physical body. The Ka is the vital spark, the link between the spiritual body Sah and the phyical body Khat, that is is why when the intellect Akhu transforms and melds with the Ka and Ba to make the shining Akhu, then that is the double body vital spark transformation. Its very complex, the Ka is 100% the physical body, but also !00% the spiritual body, it fills and links them… that is why it attaches to the flying Ba personality or colleciton of all lifetime expreiences fuses with the Ka.
Everyone has an ego, and it is not of Love. The ego is also not evil, although it is behind all acts we would consider evil. The ego is not a thing or an entity, it’s just programming to take care of number one. This programming causes us to be self-servicing, self-centered, fearful, distrusting, defensive and aggressive. The ego is a sense of self, not something real or true. A sense of self is nothing tangible, nothing that can’t be fairly easily overlooked, if its lack of realness is pointed out. The ego is programming that causes us to see life, ourselves and others through a particular lense; one tainted by fear, judgment, limitation, smallness and a sense of lack. The egoic programming creates a sense of being under attack or threatened by others and by life. The ego is in fear much of the time, and therefore divorced from Love. This fear is an illusion, an imagination of something fearful in the future; not based on an actual threat in the here and now.
Hey, I love your articles, and I’m just curious to know if you ever had an awakening experience that inspired you down this path? Either with psychedelics or an NDE? I took a very rare and powerful psychedelic and experienced a total awakening. I suddenly remembered everything; who I am, what we are, what this is, etc. It’s been a year and I’m just beginning to change to my life and help people on a larger scale. I’d love to know your story!
This article has confused me a bit. For some context, I love your Tarot deck a lot. It has even inspired me to dive deeper into tarot than I ever have and now I am trying to develops my own deck. So I’ve been comparing all kind of decks to each other, including yours, to see what I can learn from a combined experience. Now, in this article you talk about how our ego isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Even went so far as to say that a complete separation from the ego could be bad for us as a species. Yet in the descriptions for your tarot cards in the directory on the Phone app you talk about the ego as if it is something we should be trying to shun or minimize. I know your cards have been out for a while and is constantly evolving. I would love to know if your opinion on the ego, in terms of its relation to us and tarot, has changed and if a change is coming to the deck to reflect this new perspective.
But when you pro se they will attempt to stomp you out. They also will ignore your rights all together. I had this happen in district 8 larimer county. I sent my complaint to court of appeals but i doubt they will even look into it. I got in trouble for barely lighting up a bowl of weed in my car on private property. They said i was i intoxicated they charged me with DUI but they tested me and i was below the threshold required to be considered intoxicated in colorado when i was 20, so they dropped it down to reckless driving but i wasnt even driving. My car was only one to keep warm. I decided to pro se and i made all the legal documents and i fought it while also doing all the legal requirements community service and level one alcohol classes. I ended up finishing my classes late but i also stated how my case was a violation of amendment 8 and amendment 14. The DA got angry i decided to pro se and succeeded but ignored my rights all together and decided they wanted me in jail. I made a complaint on the judge and DA. And still my rights didnt mean shit. Yet i did nothing wrong at all. And this is why i dont have faith in the system. We need to overthrow our government using the declaration of independence. This government lacks human decency
Ego consciousness is needed for the physical world, to stay grounded to the physical world. However, there exist a higher level of awareness, u call it athma, soul, intellect, higher self etc, but fundamentally it is just a more clear and better lens to look from rather than the ego lens SO, If you dwell in your intellect/ego, there exist love and ALSO suffering… BUT IF you rise above your intellect or ego, then u are basically in a place free from good and bad or anything else, simply pure consciousness, and being in this state permanently Is enlightenment. In this state u realize everything from good and bad, love and pain, new and old etc everything as one and not separate, therefore dissolving every beliefs about life and seeing life as one dance of nature… Anyway, drinking smoking and other intoxication’s are abused because it gives the users a little time to look outside the intellect and experience something new. However this is temporary and not healthy…
I’m not sure it anyone in the audience here watches Naruto but I’ve come to compare my ego to the jinchurikki concept in Naruto. There are characters that have tailed beast demons in them, these demons respond to the humans rage or risk of death as a safety measure to give them their power. If left unchecked these tailed demons can overcome the human but if you’re in the case like Naruto you learn to befriend the demon instead of seeing it as a demon and you embrace it. Once he was able to do this he became closer to “god” level.
So it seems to me that we’ve made this sort villain out of the ego when from my perspective it is simply a tool of focus like a scope on a rifle used to zero in on our desire now it also seems to me that this tool is self aware or we’ve given that quality in the military we are not authorized to use a tool or components for ed smoke explosives until thoroughly trained and demonstrate an acceptable proficiency the creative power of our imagination/mind/ego is the power creating Youniverses as we are cocreators with source energy and I would also say we are the leading edge creating ALL THAT IS so we are learning to use this tool and mistakes will be made until we’ve learned a proficiency with this tool and when to put it back ijn the tool box
Speaking about the death of the ego(Sigmund Freud) on the topic of psychedelics makes no sense cause ego is a Freudian concept but Carl Jung’s Jungian psychology is better suited for discussing psychedelia. Carl Jung defeated Freud by suggesting another psychology model that, eg, dreams have meaning beyond our subconscious memories and thereby rendering Freudian “Ego” and other concepts useless in their entirety. Ego doesn’t exist since Freud is wrong!
Why havent we yet manage to travel in space? Maybe because our bodies arent meant for it. Space travel is possible thru inner space travel. Inner space travel is shamanism. John c lillys salt water isolation tank is in fact a stargate for interdimensional travel its in his book the center of the cyclone. John c lilly maps out inner space. John c lilly also explains satori. John c lilly also travels to other planets and worlds. John c lilly talked to beings of other dimensions. The failure of the dolphin experiment was used to discredit john c lillys work. John c lillys work was legit because it was used in mk ultra. The military had interest in his work and the military applied john c lillys work. Thats who john c lilly worked for was in fact the military.
Ego: “SURVIVE BY ANY AND ALL MEANS NECESSARY YOU EARTHBOUND BEAST!” Consciousness: “Aye this a nice body we’ve got here, look at those flowers, grab them, smell them, taste em, PLAAAHH my taste buds didn’t like that” looks in the mirror “whoa this is my physical form” Stomach growls Ego: “EAT BY ANY AND ALL MEANS NECESSARY, ASAP!” Wrestle with and Tame the Dragon in the mirror folks.
I find the whole subject of “ego death” ridiculous. Your ego has kept you alive this long and we wouldn’t last long without it. It’s not about killing your ego, as much as it is taming it with acceptance and love of what it is and the necessity of it to your life. If you let your employees run your company you’re a lousy Manager. You’re ego is like an employee that has very specific skill set that is extremely valuable to your business. That skill set doesn’t include being “the boss.” So who’s running your business? You or your employees? If it’s not you…. you need to become a better manager.
A person who has not integrated their shadow and who “loses their ego” is a psychotic not a saint. And here in lies one of the dangers of the modern “spiritual” negative attitudes towards the ego. Such attitudes are themselves egoic defense mechanisms and are based in self rejection, which is a common karmic trait that just about everyone does habitually. The problem is not the ego. It is the false self sense that underlies and is the affective background of ego consciousness. And what is the false self sense? That is a complex or karmic issue that belongs to the evolving Soul. The false self sense is based in shame and is a severe wound that prevents Soul consciousness from manifesting. The false self sense develops in our culture of unbridled capitalism and consumerism from participating in a matrix like system where we are used as objects to further the aims and egos of the wealthy that control society. We are also rejected a lot as we are growing up. These experiences result in serious psychic wounds that wound our positive sense of self. If one addresses these difficult complexes by dissolving them with prana (breathing into the pain) the pain and trauma will come to the surface for clearing and healing. This is provided the ego is strong enough to descend into the unconscious depths. When the false self sense wounds (low self worth, guilt, fear, hatred, shame, etc) are cleared and healed, the ego becomes integrated and centered in the Soul. Now the ego experiences an expansion of consciousness and the affective background of the ego in this state is one of love, strength, peace, wisdom, compassion, and bliss.
Here goes my theory according to the Holy Bible. There’s something called the shama. Jesus said it he said hear o Israel the Lord our GOD is one. Okay so we got that out of the way we know that God is one and that God does not dwell in the temples made by the hands of men for We Are The Holy Temple of the Living God and if God is in each and everyone of us and God is one then we are one. Jesus also said I give unto you two new Commandments love God with all your heart mind soul and strength and the second is like the first love your neighbor as yourself. In the beginning Adam and Eve adhered to an egotistical consciousness which in turn separated them from the Oneness that is God and became their own God because of ego which got him kicked out of the rest that was called Eden you have no rest when you serve ego. Jesus came to bring back the unity rather than the separation which ego created Jesus told us to go love everyone as our self because when we love someone else selflessly in turn we are loving God selflessly. There is selfish love selfish giving everything could be selfish you do things because they make you feel good, that’s a placebo you do know good when you do things selfishly it’s Selfless Love the self is giving of yourself to others with a pure heart.
How does 1 take ego out of the equation when 1 does not know what ego is? Ego attempts to put our Wants & Desires Before Our Needs & Requirements However The concept of Ego Possesses a spectrum of nuance You can’t have pride without shame You can’t have bravery without fear Certainty has no meaning without Doubt
