My ex paid 200 a month child support till I went into the Army. Then I ended up paying him 1,278. but when I came back from active duty he had to go back to paying his 200. As a co-parent (primary custodial parent) I know this for fact – it does not matter where the primary parent moves, because the NON-custodial parent who pays the child support, the state that they live is the state that has jurisdiction over how much child support they pay. States do differ however in how long the non-custodial parent pays child support – some states end at 18, others end at 21 years of age. Some states also differ in what choices the children have. I.e some states let children decide if they want to visit the other parent at 12 years old and older, other states it doesn’t matter how old they are, they must visit their non-custodial parent whether they want to or not. Just wanted to give a little more information on that, as someone who has been through a custody battle myself and has done a lot of research on my own and with attorneys.
