How Much Do Family Feud Winners Get After Taxes

How Much Do Family Feud Winners Get After Taxes?

On Family Feud, the total winnings of $20, 000 are equally divided among the five team members, resulting in approximately $4, 000 per person after taxes. Contestants must wait 90 days to receive their cash prizes, and the amount is subject to taxation as ordinary income in the U. S. For instance, if a contestant wins $50, 000, they may owe about $12, 000 in federal taxes, with games often withholding around 25% initially to cover tax liabilities.

Notably, the winnings are not life-changing; after taxes, an individual may only end up with around $2, 500 from a $10, 000 prize. Additionally, participation in the show does not guarantee financial rewards beyond the prize money. It is crucial for winners to report their earnings accurately, using forms like the IRS Form W-2G, which details reportable winnings including lottery, sweepstakes, and game show prizes. The winnings, whether cash or merchandise, are generally viewed as taxable income in states that have income tax.

California residents, for instance, would face their state income taxes in addition to federal obligations. Although the excitement of winning can be significant, the financial reality reveals that the actual take-home amount may not meet expectations, prompting discussions among former contestants on platforms like Reddit about the need for higher prizes.

Did ABC Fire Steve Harvey From 'Family Feud'?

ABC has confirmed that Steve Harvey has not been fired from his role as host of "Family Feud," countering a false advertisement circulating on social media. This misleading claim suggested that Harvey was abruptly dismissed due to an alleged on-air slip during an interview with Oprah Winfrey, which is also untrue. ABC Entertainment chief Channing Dungey reassured fans that Harvey's comedic style is unrelated to any job security concerns. Despite a recent incident that left him momentarily speechless, Harvey, who has hosted the show for nearly 14 years, has not announced plans to leave.

While there have been instances where his behavior raised eyebrows, no official actions have been taken against him. The rumor, which appeared in a Facebook ad in early May 2024, was merely a scam trying to exploit Harvey's name alongside CBD products. Viewers should disregard these claims, as there is no truth to Harvey being booted from "Family Feud" or involved in recent conversations with Oprah Winfrey. He continues to be a prominent figure on the show.

  • LMFAO!!! 2:32 I remember that show! This guy actually did the IMPOSSIBLE and practically almost won it himself and that woman came out and gave the most STUPIDEST answers anyone ever heard! One question was like ‘At work during lunch break what do you do?’ Well you would say something like go outside to smoke or gawd FORBID….EAT! She was like ‘hang around the water fountain.’ O_o I’m paraphrasing, but this was the type of answers she was throwing out. SO, when it came time to reveal the answers this dingbat couldn’t even get 5 points on any of them. Man, never in my LIFE have I seen an audience get so quiet, it was like everyone was at a funeral and even Steve was trying to stay positive, but the look on his face…shakes head I would have made her ass walk home. Note: Got thru looking at that vid and the question was more like ‘when do you start looking at your watch?’ Not about lunch breaks, hey it’s been awhile.

  • Whether or not these people who give such stupid answers are trying to be funny, or honestly believe they are good answers…I am glad Steve actually thinks they’re stupid – because, bottom line: they are. For instance, that “Cupine” guy – his cousin or whomever, saying “lawn” then “loin”, yet spelling it “lion” and didn’t even realize she had…just wow. That was one of those moments that lets you see how stupid people can be. The only other ones to prove themselves dumber are those 100 people they survey for the answers. I don’t know how Steve keeps a straight face during such moments on Family Feud – but he handles them well. I just wouldn’t be able to take it, unless I genuinely found it funny. Of course, “Nekkid Grandma!” was stupid, too – but I still found it funny enough. Though I do believe the guy simply thought it would be funny to say. I don’t think he was trying to give a legit answer. But if was… oh jeez…

  • I’m disappointed with Seth Myers for having this misogynist, prejudiced, ignorant man (who has more in common with the KKK than he realizes) on his show. As this is a free country, I’ll remember this when choosing late night shows to watch in the future, and I suggest anyone else who believes in treating men and women, and people of all religious beliefs, equally, do the same

  • Can we stop wearing mustaches, please? The mustache was never attractive and now it’s also passe. Let’s just stop with the mustache thing okay, people? Just wear a beard if you want facial hair. I have never seen anyone look good with just a mustache. Ever. And no, I don’t think mustaches are “epic” either. They’re horrible.
