Apple Intelligence is now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, offering features like the Scheduling Assistant and shared calendar capabilities for collaboration with colleagues and family members. Outlook’s interface has separate calendars, but access to the family calendar group has changed. To find the best calendar apps for Mac in 2024, a guide offers detailed descriptions, key features, and pros and cons.
The top five calendar apps for Mac are Apple Calendar for macOS, BusyCal, and Calendar for macOS. These apps allow users to manage events in one app, even if they are in different accounts like iCloud or Google. Users can create separate calendars for different areas of their life, spot work, and more. Calendars are more than just a place to create events; they can organize life, send reminders, and perform all functionality intended for a calendar.
To add and delete calendars from Calendar, users can choose View > Show Declined Events and search for events in the Calendar search field. If the old shared family calendar was accidentally deleted, users can refresh subscribed calendars by going to the Calendar app on their Mac and choosing View > Refresh Calendars.
Microsoft changed the Family calendar to a new feature called “Your Family” group, which was removed from the iOS mail app. To get the 365 work calendar that Apple’s apps see natively to show up in Agenda, users must enable Family Sharing and set up and customize their Apple calendar.
To create events with Apple Calendar, users can follow these steps:
- Go to Calendar > Settings, then click “@Accounts”. This will bring up an option to select any of your synced calendar accounts.
- Click on “Add New Accounts” to create a new account.
- Select the account you want to use for your calendar.
- Click “Add New Account” to create a new account.
- Click “Save” to save the changes.
In summary, Apple Intelligence is now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, offering features like scheduling assistant, shared calendar capabilities, and more. Users can also manage their calendars and schedule events using various calendar apps.

How Do I Get My Calendar Events Back On Mac?
If you accidentally deleted your iCloud calendars or events, you can restore them via iCloud. com, along with your reminders, from an earlier archived version. Restoring will remove sharing information from shared calendars. For recovering a single event without restoring an entire calendar, options include using Time Machine or searching on iCloud. To restore missing events on your Mac, first check your internet connection. In the Calendar app, go to Settings, Accounts, and refresh your calendars.
For restoring from iCloud, log in to iCloud. com, access Account Settings, then go to Advanced and select "Restore Calendars." If you have a specific event in mind, you might need to edit it directly on Google Calendar to refresh the sync with your Mac calendar. Another approach is to create a new local calendar for preserving events while restoring the archive. If the problem persists, consider disconnecting from iCloud and restoring from the ~/Library folder before re-enabling your accounts. Keep in mind that old devices connected to your iCloud may also affect syncing, so consider cleaning that up. Each step aims to efficiently recover lost calendar entries while minimizing disruptions.
Why Can'T I See My Family Calendar?
When a family member is removed from a family group or if the family group is deleted by the family manager, access to the family calendar and all its events will also be lost. Users may experience issues enabling the family calendar in Google Calendar, with some reporting it as not visible. If the family calendar is accessible in the Windows 10 Mail app, the update is confirmed. To troubleshoot, log into Google Calendar on a computer, access Settings, and check visibility.
If a child isn't receiving notifications from the shared calendar, ensure device settings allow notifications. With Family Link installed on an Android device, parents can manage and view their child's calendar through Google Calendar. If the family calendar isn't appearing, verify that the necessary settings are enabled on devices, allowing the calendar to sync and display correctly. The family calendar can only be shared among family group members and cannot be shared externally.
Users may need to check their calendar settings and ensure visibility is enabled to solve access issues effectively. In case of missing a shared family calendar, steps to restore access might include copying the Calendar ID from the Settings page. For comprehensive management, detailed check-ins on device settings and Google account configurations are recommended.
Does Apple Calendar Work On Mac?
Apple's Calendar, pre-installed on your Mac, is a user-friendly application that syncs effortlessly with iPhones and iPads, allowing you to manage appointments with ease. To create new appointments, simply click the + button or use natural language processing to input events like "go for a walk at noon." Connecting a calendar on your Mac involves navigating to Calendar > Accounts and following prompts, while mobile users can tap Calendars > Add Calendar. Initially, connected calendars may not display all entries right away.
The Calendar app facilitates tracking meetings and events in one convenient location, supports multiple accounts, and provides functionalities like notifications, event importing, and exporting. Collaborating is easy through shared calendars. While Apple Calendar offers an intuitive interface and seamless integration with iCloud, some users may find it lacks advanced features available in third-party alternatives.
For efficient scheduling, it is essential to familiarize yourself with Apple Calendar’s capabilities, such as syncing across devices and managing appointments. Access the app typically found in your Mac dock and utilize iCloud synchronization for updating information on your devices. Apple Calendar is a reliable tool for Apple users looking to organize their schedules and stay on track. Although it may not be the most feature-rich option available, it integrates well with macOS and other Apple products, making it a solid choice for everyday calendar management.
Does Apple Have A Family Calendar?
To share an iCloud calendar with family members via iPhone, follow the steps outlined in the guide. Begin by tapping "Calendars" at the bottom of the Calendar app. Here, you can share an iCloud calendar with multiple users, allowing invited individuals to view it and potentially add or change events based on your permission. Creating a family calendar is straightforward; simply access the Calendar app and follow the setup instructions.
Once invitations are accepted, Family Sharing establishes a shared calendar and photo album automatically on all devices. This feature allows family members to view, add, or edit appointments while receiving alerts on changes.
Family Sharing, encompassing up to six members, facilitates shared App Store purchases and subscriptions without sharing Apple IDs. It’s compatible even with those who don’t own Apple devices. The Calendar app aids communication among family, enhancing coordination for activities. By enabling Family Sharing, a shared calendar is automatically generated, simplifying event management. Each member can easily add events to the shared family calendar through the app. It’s essential to note that all participants need an Apple account for private calendar sharing. Overall, iCloud calendars streamline family organization and connection.
Is Apple Calendar A Good App?
Apple Calendar is a user-friendly app that comes pre-installed on all Apple devices, enabling event synchronization across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It's especially convenient for users in the Apple ecosystem, with a commendable rating of 4. 1 out of 5 on G2 and 4. 9 on the Apple App Store, making it a solid free option for basic scheduling needs. Although various iPhone calendar apps cater to specific requirements, the essentials include an easy-to-use interface and functionality.
While Apple Calendar excels in design and integrates seamlessly with other Apple apps, it lacks advanced features found in third-party alternatives like Fantastical and OneCalendar. Both Apple and Google Calendar offer intuitive event creation and options for managing invites. Apple Calendar’s functionality shines on Mac and iPad but is somewhat limited on iPhone due to a lack of detail in the month view.
For power users, Fantastical is recommended due to its design and advanced features. Ultimately, Apple Calendar is ideal for casual users and families using Apple devices, allowing easy event sharing and scheduling among family members.
Why Is My Apple Calendar Not Showing Up In Family?
To resolve issues with iCloud Contacts and Calendars not syncing on your devices, check your app settings if multiple groups or accounts are in use. Open the Contacts app, tap Lists, and ensure that "All iCloud" is selected. In the Calendar app, confirm you can see the family sharing calendar. On iOS devices, navigate to Settings > your name > Family Sharing to verify the settings. If events are missing from your shared "Family" calendar, consider turning off and then re-enabling Family Sharing, as this resolved similar issues for others. Ensure your Apple ID is used consistently for Family Sharing and Media Purchases, and verify that purchase sharing is activated. For any Calendar app troubles on Mac, consult troubleshooting topics. If your iPhone calendar does not sync when offline, check mobile data access for the app. You can create a family calendar by selecting "Add Calendar" in the Calendar app and sharing it. If a shared calendar appears deleted, restore attempts may fail. Refresh the app by swiping down; if unsuccessful, ensure your devices have the latest iOS version. Lastly, check if Calendar settings in iCloud are properly enabled across all devices.
Is Apple Calendar Free?
Apple Calendar is a free application that comes pre-installed on iPhones, iPads, and Macs, making it accessible for Apple users. It requires no subscription fees and allows seamless synchronization with other popular calendars like Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook via iCloud, providing a holistic view of your schedule, including reminders and events from various accounts. Although it lacks advanced features such as task management and third-party integrations, it remains a solid choice for basic scheduling needs, including work meetings and personal reminders.
While the app is free and has a user-friendly design, it does have limitations in comparison to other calendar applications. Users looking for advanced functionalities may explore alternatives like BusyCal, Fantastical, or Calendars by Readdle, which offer more complex features but may involve optional subscriptions or one-time purchases. Apple Calendar does not feature any ads or hidden costs, which makes it a straightforward option for anyone entrenched in the Apple ecosystem.
It also allows users to send invitations and manage multiple calendars efficiently. For users seeking a purely integrated experience with their Apple devices, Apple Calendar provides a streamlined solution without the need for additional sign-ups or subscriptions, ensuring a smooth and native experience across iOS, macOS, iPadOS, and watchOS platforms.
Why Am I Not Seeing A Shared Calendar?
To address issues with your Outlook shared calendar not appearing, first ensure the shared calendar is selected in the calendar view folder pane. If it isn’t visible, it may be a synchronization issue; try closing and reopening Outlook or manually triggering a send/receive action. Another possibility is that the calendar owner has revoked access or altered permissions. In cases where shared calendars do not show despite following the proper steps to add them via the "add calendar" button (searching the address book and selecting the owner), check if adequate permissions have been granted. If you experience difficulties with other calendars, such as events defaulting to personal calendars, confirm that sharing settings allow visibility. Additionally, if a shared calendar is supposedly added but not visible, ensure that you have the correct permissions and check your settings in both Outlook and the Google Calendar app. If necessary, reset the navigation pane in Outlook using outlook. exe/resetnavpane
and re-add shared calendars. Keep in mind that permissions can be a primary reason for the calendar not being viewable, as they determine whether access is granted to the shared data. Once access is correctly set, re-syncing may help resolve visibility issues.
What Is A Family Calendar?
A "Family" calendar differs from individual calendars used in each 365 Family installation; it is a distinct entity. In Google, creating a family automatically generates a "Family" calendar accessible to all family members who join. This calendar allows everyone to view, create, edit, or delete events, streamlining coordination of schedules and appointments. A family calendar app functions as a digital platform for families to manage their schedules collaboratively in one place.
Families can share their calendars, inviting members and organizing activities, thereby simplifying busy lives through tools that feature reminders, to-do lists, and notes. Popular family calendar apps include Cozi, Any. do, and FamCal, each offering unique functionalities for shared organization. Outlook. com also provides a shared family calendar upon adding family members, helping to categorize events such as medical appointments and family outings.
Utilizing a family calendar fosters better time management skills, especially for children, while enabling families to prioritize together and enhance their quality time. With a shared calendar, families can intentionally plan activities, ensuring that all members stay on the same page regarding commitments and priorities. Thus, family calendars are essential for effective family organization and communication.
Why Did My Calendar Disappear?
Calendars often become deselected due to storage glitches. If you've checked activation but entries remain invisible, the issue may be more severe. Determine whether you sync calendars or keep them locally. Losing Outlook calendar events, appointments, or notes can be alarming, especially for critical updates. After upgrading to Windows 10 version 1903, many entries may disappear without a backup. If only a default calendar shows up after restarting, it suggests a possible update issue with Google Calendar.
Feedback to Google may be warranted. Several reasons exist for a disappearing Google Calendar, like misconfigured settings, syncing problems, or accidental deletions. To address missing events in Microsoft Calendar, explore solutions for Windows 10. For iPhone users, restoring a deleted Calendar includes checking the "Deleted Items" or "Trash" folders. Verify which email account syncs with the Calendar app under Settings. Deleted events might remain retrievable in Google Calendar for a month, accessed via the PC.
Clearing cache on the Google Calendar app and ensuring proper synchronization can help. Network issues might affect iCloud Calendar syncing as well; rebooting the iPhone may sometimes restore lost events.
How Do I Get My Apple Calendar Back?
To restore missing calendars on your iPhone, start by signing into iCloud. com with your Apple account. Scroll to the bottom and select "Data Recovery," then click on "Restore Calendars" next to the preferred date prior to deletion. Confirm your selection to recover the calendars. If you're having difficulties navigating the Calendar app on your iPhone 12 Max Pro, where you’re stuck on the calendar selection screen, you can try finding the Calendar app in the App Library by swiping left on your home screen. If the Calendar app has been deleted, you can recover it easily by either visiting the App Store or dragging it from the App Library back to your home screen. In addition, check your iCloud settings to ensure Calendar is enabled by going to Settings > Apple ID > iCloud. If you are unable to find your calendar after a factory reset or accidental deletion, consider using iOS Recovery tools to restore lost calendar events. For shared calendars, note that sharing information will be removed upon restoration, and remember to validate the existence of calendars in other accounts, like Hotmail, through their corresponding web services.

Hi, Super helpfull tips!! Do you know if there is an option to move multiple calendar items at once? (For example “prepare swimming gear” “Drive to swimmingpool” “swimming” “Drive home”, and if I want to swim a few hours later I have to move all those items 1 at the time, but I want to move them all together as a pack.). I hope you can help me with it.
THis was helpful, thanks. But do you, or anyone else, know how to avoid this Apple Calendar issue: Whenever I add a multi-day event. Let’s say ‘Holiday in Florida’ from 1st – 14th August, that then covers everything else in Week View. Because of this, I can’t access or edit any other events during that time frame, since they are ‘behind’ the multi day event. How do we ‘send that event to the back’, if you know what I mean. Thanks
Nice article. Love tip #4 and #10. With alerts and reminders, I’ve found it’s too easy to dismiss. Multiple alerts will help avoid that. As a back up, I set alarms for all events and use the snooze feature when needed. Alarms are more persistent (annoying really – LOL) but work to make sure I don’t dismiss and blow an appointment. Do these shortcuts work with IOS devices?
Hello and apologies if this is a bit unrelated but perhaps you could help? Thing is can’t I see external subscription calendars (my office Gmail calendar in this case) when I view my Apple calendar in a browser on my Windows machine. Do note that this office calendar is very visible on my Apple calendar on my iPad, Mac and iPhone, although I think I had to add each one separately. P.S. I did try to add it inside iCloud-on-a-browser but no luck. Is there a way to fix this. Thanks!
Thanks!! 3 things: 1. You’re still gorgeous. No surprise. 2. I end up with duplicate calendars somehow and cannot comp whence they came. I’ll see two of the same birthday, for example. If I try to turn off the extra, (laptop during Covid) they both disappear. What up wi’dat? Is that a general article topic? 3. You are using your laptop here but I usually input on my phone. Wouldn’t you love to make a article specially for the phone app? Can I do the same stuff in my phone? I’ll try some. Already use and abuse alerts, but did NOT know I could create a third! Perhaps because I mostly use my phone. Inputting this on my phone now and the cursor jumps wherever the eff it wants to apparently. Just thought I’d share.
Are there things about Google calendar that you wish Apple calendar had or are you so deep in the apple ecosystem that it’s easier to choose Apple over Google. I have a ton of apple products and I find it easier just to keep things simple with Apple and I also feel like Google products scrape battery life off of my phone faster than default apps. Have you had that same experience
