In the current election, presidential campaigns are discussing home care and child tax credit proposals, focusing on parents and caregivers more directly than ever before. However, one policy proposal that has been absent is what Kamala Harris or Donald Trump would support as president. In September 2016, Trump made an announcement surprising everyone, especially Republicans, spurred by his daughter Ivanka. The Senate passed a historic measure on Tuesday that would fund paid family and medical leave for federal employees, marking a win for a policy pushed by Ivanka Trump. President Trump’s tax reforms provided a new tax credit to incentivize businesses to offer paid family leave to their employees.
Ivanka Trump says it has taken a lot of private persuasion to secure paid parental leave. In her conversations with Republican lawmakers, she says she’s seen a dramatic shift. President Trump called for paid family leave in the State of the Union on Tuesday, the first Republican president to do so. But the bill he supported does not offer what has generally been offered.
During his campaign, Trump promised six weeks of paid maternity leave for women after giving birth. There are many problems with this, including its sexist presumption that only women. Trump’s proposed 2018 budget would create the first federal plan for paid family leave in the US. In 2019, Congress voted to provide all federal workers with 12 weeks of paid parental leave – a policy backed by Ivanka Trump, former President Donald Trump’s daughter. Trump’s proposal includes six weeks of paid leave for mothers.
Vice President Harris wants to implement things. Federal employees will soon be eligible for paid parental leave under a bipartisan bill introduced in December by Senator Kyrsten Sinema, Democrat of Arizona, and Senator Bill Cassidy, Republican of The Kamala Harris and Donald Trump campaigns offer differing visions of what enhanced support for employees with caregiving duties would look like.

Ah, how generous. A loan to put a family with a new baby into debt. …you want them to pay it back over 10 years? We’re either talking massive interest or massive principal. And both are stupid. You could just take 12 weeks and get a loan from your credit union. The interest is not going to be less than inflation, I can tell you that much. I suppose it sounds good, but if anyone took time to look at it and think on it, it basically does nothing. Paid maternity leave is supposed to help women. 12 weeks off for a 10 year debt is a straight up scam. The childcare credit is to encourage people to have children to maintain the workforce. Now it’s to pay back a loan that only got you the first 3 months of your child’s life. Like what? I get it. We’re trying to get plans that net positive the federal reseeve, but don’t ripoff the new moms.
yes, 47 % of the workforce is woman. Ivanka is so smart, Trump appointed her to take care of these issues. Some private institutions, like hospitals are already providing paid family leave, but Ivanka is speaking about those private companies that doe not provide it. Obama did not take care of business. Now with the Trumps in charge, we see ACTION. Ivanka is the right woman to take care of paid family leave in the federal government. I am so astounded by all the action that is taking place. Bravo!

This ´benefit´, only to federal workers not their contractors, comes from the worker´s own child tax credit … to be payed back probably with very high interest … wait what? so it is not really ´payed leave´ …. unless the worker gives the money to the fed and the fed gives it to the employer that then uses the money to pay the worker their leave … WTF?
Working mothers are entitled to 140 days of maternity leave in Russia. Maternity leave begins 70 days before the pregnancy due date and continues for an additional 70 days after the completion of the first half of the entitlement, should the birth occur earlier than expected (or 84 days for multiple births). The United States, Suriname, Papua New Guinea, and a few island countries in the Pacific Ocean are the only countries in the United Nations that do not require employers to provide paid time off for new parents.
Pay it back? Check out what they do in France and what a woman gets for free when she has a child – and not just government workers either. Things like a free government provided care giver that comes to the home for three months after the child is born. And yes, the French people do pay more in taxes… but they’re not broke and they willingly do it too.
For Government workers???? and who pays for government workers wages, we the rest of the country that DON”T get these benefits, nor make anywhere near $70K a year. BUT, I can pay tax on my retirement (that I have already paid tax on) and can’t get decent health care as a retired senior! Worked all my life since 10, was a foster parent, volunteered endlessly for my community, and poor as a church mouse…. Sorry for the rant!!!!!!!! I am tired of paying for government workers, when they don’t even seem to acknowledge these benefits come off the backs of the working poor too…
Every time I watch her I’m reminded of that character Axel played by Owen Wilson in Zoolander. A father can spend all the money in the world for etiquette classes, but there’s nothing he can pay to fix stupid. Anytime this woman speaks she fails to make any logical points based on contextual facts of which she speaks. I almost feel sorry for her, because you can tell she try’s so hard to appear and sound intelligent always to end up looking foolish.. She reminds me of those clips from huge televised pageants when they ask the contestants questions about a current event, foreign affairs or social and political issues, which always fly over the completely oblivious head of the contestant who gives one of several rehearsed blanket statements. Statements that come nowhere close to answering the question, but sounds sweet distracting the audience who is now giving a standing ovation for world peace or feeding the starving children in third world countries. She obviously grew up in the pageant/beauty system. It’s common knowledge with Trump owning Miss USA and she even awkwardly/uncomfortably hosted one at age 14. If I was her I would do my best not to behave or act in that manner, especially when working in and around the government/world leaders majority of who are educated people. I would wonder if anyone would take me serious. She’s a disgrace to the countless strong intelligent women and mothers out there who have to endure and experience the real world. It makes me sick to see her act as though she’s a champion for mother’s and women’s rights when she hasn’t done a damn thing worth doing while having endless resources and a position to do so.
During a ridiculously easy interview on CBS, Ivanka Trump was asked if she still opposed her father’s migrant family separation policy, and Ivanka gave a rambling diatribe about how we have to stop human trafficking and how immigration isn’t really part of her “portfolio.” She was allowed to escape the actual issue, and this kind of journalistic malpractice is how we ended up with Trump in the first place.
can you believe it…that for 3 administrations, not one president has ensured that federal woman workers, get paid family leave…. AND they blame Trump for what? Trump put Ivanka in charge of this issue,….and boy…is she delivering. Ivanka had to keep discussing and educating the senators, that when a woman can take care of her baby at home, for 12 weeks, she is a better mother, and a better wife and the whole community benefits from the time she received for healing and nurturing
They work what 9 to 3 with an hour lunch and two half hour breaks All weekends off plus government holidays They work a third of tje hours of what 75% of Americans work to pay their fking salary and they make 3 times more and they don’t do that good a job when you go to em and then they try to rip you off in every way they can And they get premium benefits. People out there working two jobs 12 14 16 hour days 6 days a week some work 12 hours 7 days a week might not have any benefits at all they just got to have a job to make some fking money
So federal worker who are already above minimum wages get paid leave but the million of mother working minimum wages don’t .We talking about waitress who wait on the rich,cooks who feed them and maids who clean up after them. Reason why minimum wages workers(who keep this country running )want get it because they don’t pay in as much taxes. So this bill is stupid because your just giving back the taxes these federal works paid in. So federal works don’t run to the polls this leave is money you earn anyway.
If government employees want paid vacation they should give up their benefits and pay them out of their pocket That’d kind of even up everybody in the workforce in this country with government employees How the workforce having to pay for benefits out of their own pocket, especially primo benefits and no cost of living raises like government employees
I hear new moms talk about how will they go back to work and leave their baby when they are still nursing..at 6 weeks. The cost of childcare is over half of their paycheck…$1200-$1500 a month. It is a crazy world when newborns are left with strangers to care for them. I say this because most women do not have famiy members to help them. We are creating various scenarios or patterns of young children not being with significant family members. They are learning from other kids not their parents. It is a receipe for disaster.
Taxpayers are rewarding companies for doing the right and healthy thing to do. We pay them to do it Maybe we should put workers in charge of production and they would not only pay themselves a living wage but give a paid family leave as well. The corporate structure has failed to do it. The government of the people has failed to do it. Now let the people run and own the business they work in. What the government and private sector fail to do the people can do. And it looks like the people can do it better.
What hateful comments- Must feel awful to be so negative. I appreciate Ivanka’s work-she’s not writing books about others, she’s focused on improving areas that have been ignored. It may not be perfect, at least she’s working toward solutions. Spare me your poison darts-I’m only commenting. Really lamenting- -I miss my old democrat party.
She have no other choice but leave if daddy go, she go. Newly elect President select their own cabinet members. Maybe if relatives wasn’t whispering in daddy’s hear it may have better.
