In an uncontested divorce, you and your spouse both want a divorce and agree on the desired terms of the divorce. If you and your spouse are getting a contested divorce, it is highly recommended that you get independent legal advice before signing any agreement or settlement order. A lawyer will know your rights in your specific situation and can help you reach the best possible agreement with your spouse. It is usually a good idea to hire a lawyer on a consulting basis to review any settlement agreement that you’ve reached.
No state has a mandatory requirement for spouses to hire divorce lawyers, but hiring one before starting the process and before signing off makes sense. If you and your spouse can agree on matters such as children custody, or if your spouse doesn’t want to divorce or disagrees with your grounds for divorce (in a fault-based state), strongly consider hiring a lawyer to file a divorce petition and advocate.
The choice to “lawyer up” during divorce can be a very complex decision. When considering whether to hire a divorce lawyer, the short answer is that you do not need a lawyer in the uncontested divorce. However, in some cases, it may not be necessary to hire a lawyer for your divorce.
There are five situations where hiring a divorce lawyer is critical to your case:
- 100 yes. A lawyer will help you both not forget any details that may result in your first filing getting rejected by the court. Even in a contested divorce, it’s not “necessary” to hire an attorney. The issue with not at least consulting with an attorney is that they are in it to make money, not to be your friend.
Good divorce attorneys should pay for a little time with them to review the language of the Decree to see if it means what you think it does. When meeting with an attorney, make sure to give them all the facts in your case, at least as far as you’re aware of them.
Regardless of whether you reach an agreement on your own or through mediation, it’s usually a good idea to hire a lawyer on a consulting basis to review any settlement.

What Is The Walkaway Wife Syndrome?
Walkaway Wife Syndrome is a phenomenon where women, feeling increasingly frustrated and unfulfilled in their marriages, eventually decide to leave, often without warning. This syndrome, sometimes referred to as Neglected Wife Syndrome or Sudden Divorce Syndrome, typically arises after years of emotional detachment and ineffective communication between partners. The cycle of neglect leads women to feel unheard and unloved, causing them to seek an exit from the relationship.
Signs of this syndrome may include a growing sense of isolation and resentment, as their emotional needs go unmet. When men fail to recognize how their wives feel loved and do not invest quality time into the marriage, it can further exacerbate the situation, leading to diminished intimacy and connection. The disillusionment builds until the wife feels compelled to make the drastic decision to walk away. Walkaway Wife Syndrome emphasizes the importance of communication and emotional connection in relationships; without these, marriages can suffer irreparably.
While it is not a clinical diagnosis, understanding this syndrome can help couples identify and address issues before they escalate to the point of separation. Awareness of these dynamics can aid in fostering healthier marital relationships, preventing the painful consequences of a partner’s departure.
Do I Need A Lawyer For An Uncontested Divorce?
In uncontested divorces, hiring a lawyer is highly recommended to ensure protection of your rights, even if you can manage without one. A lawyer's review of your settlement agreement is vital, and you may wish to consider mediation to reach an agreement with your spouse. An uncontested divorce requires that both parties agree on all legal matters involved, such as child support and custody arrangements if children are involved. While it's legally possible to navigate an uncontested divorce without legal representation, professional guidance is beneficial for proper document preparation and filing.
Although couples can save on costs by opting for uncontested divorces, complications can arise, making legal advice essential. Without litigation, both time spent in court and legal fees are significantly reduced, often allowing for a resolution in about a month. However, if disputes arise, the divorce may become contested, necessitating legal counsel. Ultimately, whether to hire a lawyer depends on the specific circumstances of the divorce, but consulting an attorney prior to filing is advisable to avoid potential legal issues. How Do I Protect Myself Before Divorce?
To protect yourself financially during a divorce, it's essential to take strategic steps early. Start by creating a financial plan, which includes opening your own bank account and separating joint debts. Monitoring your credit score is crucial, as is taking an inventory of your assets and reviewing your retirement accounts. Consider mediation before litigation to minimize conflict. Hiring an experienced divorce attorney is advisable, and make sure to document all financial information meticulously.
Cancel joint credit cards and lines of credit to avoid shared liabilities, and refrain from signing any agreements without proper legal advice. If children are involved, consider remaining in the family home to secure their stability. Staying organized and proactive is key: gather your financial documents, maintain clear records, and understand your financial situation in detail. While divorce can be stressful, these steps can help protect your interests and facilitate a smoother transition. Remember to prioritize your well-being and financial security as you navigate this challenging time.
Why Do People Hire Divorce Lawyers?
Hiring a divorce attorney is crucial for several reasons. First, attorneys provide essential legal explanations, ensuring that everything is fair during the process. They can help navigate the court system, which can be overwhelming for those unfamiliar with matrimonial law. While a do-it-yourself divorce is possible, most individuals should consider legal representation to protect their interests.
Divorce can be highly emotional, and attorneys help to facilitate communication between spouses, minimizing conflict. They can guide you in making critical decisions and understanding the various terms of an uncontested or contested divorce. Having legal representation becomes even more important if your spouse has a lawyer, as an attorney can safeguard your rights in any legal agreements.
Additionally, divorce attorneys can help you save money by providing valuable insights, ensuring that you receive a fair settlement. Their expertise extends to complex issues such as property division, child custody, and alimony. Furthermore, a good divorce lawyer not only addresses legal matters but also offers emotional support throughout the process. Overall, engaging a competent divorce attorney is vital to navigate the intricacies of divorce effectively and to secure the best possible outcomes for you and your family.
How To Avoid Getting Screwed In A Divorce?
To ensure a smoother divorce experience and avoid common pitfalls, consider the following essential steps. First, seek professional help, such as a qualified attorney or financial advisor, to safeguard your interests. Ensure you receive your fair share of assets while prioritizing future financial security. It’s vital to terminate joint debts and account for support taxes to prevent unexpected financial burdens. Additionally, transfer retirement assets and enhance your retirement planning to secure your future.
Prepare by understanding your spouse's financial situation and not depositing additional funds into joint accounts. Open your own bank accounts to maintain control of your finances. If there are children involved, their interests should always come first. Avoid making major decisions immediately following the divorce; instead, focus on personal happiness and well-being. Consider creating a new will that excludes your ex-partner, and ensure you’re up-to-date with your credit report.
Remember, long-term relationships formed before the divorce can complicate matters. Lastly, navigate the negotiation process thoughtfully, addressing anticipated costs, such as college tuition, to achieve a fair settlement and protect your interests.
Should I Hire A Divorce Lawyer?
Deciding whether to hire a divorce lawyer depends on your specific circumstances, influenced by factors such as the nature of your divorce and asset values. In contested divorces, where disagreements over terms exist, consulting an attorney is advisable. For uncontested divorces, where both parties agree on terms like property division and custody, a lawyer may still assist in reviewing agreements to safeguard rights. If financial constraints limit your ability to hire an attorney, local legal aid offices or bar associations may offer resources.
It's essential to understand the divorce process, which may involve traditional court battles, self-representation, or mediation. Serious disputes over custody, support, or allegations of violence typically warrant legal representation. Before hiring, prepare questions to gauge an attorney’s experience and approach. Knowing your marital issues—such as infidelity, lack of commitment, or concerns about children's wellbeing—can help determine the necessity of legal counsel.
Thorough research and consideration of your needs are crucial in choosing the right attorney. Whether you opt for representation or manage the process on your own, having informed support can lead to a fair and just resolution for all parties involved.
Who Loses The Most In A Divorce?
While divorce outcomes vary, statistics show women often face greater financial losses than men following a divorce. Approximately 25% of women may fall into poverty post-divorce, and they generally experience a more significant decline in household income compared to men. This trend also holds true in same-sex marriages, where divorcing lesbians may suffer greater financial hardship than gay men. Despite the personal anticipation of regaining autonomy that informs many divorces, it's essential to recognize the profound effects these transitions entail.
Spousal roles during the marriage largely influence who bears the financial brunt of the divorce, with research indicating women typically endure a heavier financial burden. Both genders do experience a dip in their standard of living, but men may face an increase in income post-divorce, often earning 30% more, while women's incomes tend to drop by 20%. As individuals navigate their separations, it’s crucial to support them through these transitions.
The emotional, financial, and psychological tolls of divorce underscore the importance of a proactive and informed approach in coping with this life-altering event. Ultimately, while both parties suffer losses, the outcomes reveal that women often bear the greatest burdens during and after divorce.
What Type Of Lawyer Is Best For Divorce?
When seeking a divorce attorney, it is crucial to find one with experience in family law, especially if children or significant assets are involved. A litigated divorce is a formal process where unresolved issues are brought to court, necessitating the judge's decisions on custody, support, and property division. Understanding the different types of divorce and the general processes for each will help you determine the best course for your situation.
While some divorces might not require legal representation, hiring an experienced attorney can be beneficial for appealing court decisions and understanding your rights. Before filing, consult a local family law attorney to assess your needs. Effective lawyers should be knowledgeable in family law and skilled in local practices. To find the right attorney, consider key factors such as your preferred divorce type, budget, and referrals.

How Do I Avoid Financial Ruins In A Divorce?
Doug shared essential tips for navigating finances during a divorce: first, seek professional advice instead of relying solely on friends or family; second, meticulously track both current and expected future expenses like legal fees and alimony; and third, organize all financial documents. Family law attorney Holly Davis emphasizes understanding your marital finances, including identifying hidden assets and potential tax implications to safeguard your financial future.
Engaging a financial adviser can clarify your post-divorce financial landscape and help develop a strong financial plan. 📹 Four Red Flags that you hired the wrong attorney. How to know if you hired a bad attorney.
Warning signs that should make you consider getting a new attorney. The Law Offices of Michael J. Gravlin, LLC 134 North …
My sister hired an attorney to help get the retirement benefits from her ex-husband. This attorney literally played games with her. He didn’t file the necessary papers. He used the courts to lie. Now we have file a grievance with the State Bar. He is lying to the the State Bar.His unprofessional misconduct continues. We will fight this vigorously.
Mine does the same shenanigans, and when the hearing I wait months for he is sick, on vacation or tries to settle by lying to me, things I would never agree to. Hiring him made my family law case a thousand times worse filing motions I never know about. I’ll be homeless by the end of it with his nonsense billing. I find out later he is friends with the opposition, and he bills me for calls, when I haven’t even spoken two him in months. At least 2000.00 a month in charges for absolutely abusing my finances, and my child, and even the opposite defendant attorney doing the same. It’s a 50 billion dollar a year industry just in family law. Nobody wins. They kids are damaged, and their future money or memories are now trauma of the court. Straight violations of our constitutional rights in every way.
I am going through a divorce and my trial is two weeks away. I got a letter today from my attorney’s assistant stating March 31 st will be her last day and she is working for a new law firm April 1 st and will need a new retainer fee going forward with my case. She is young and I do not think she wanted to go to court and she never mentioned she was leaving. I feel she duped me.
My son is going through a divorce so he hired an attorney who promptly took his $5,000 and then proceeded to tell him why he was going to lose. He told my son that he had no chance at split custody or full custody, and he told my son because he was self-employed that a judge would automatically assume that he made twice as much as he claimed on his income taxes. My son had articles of his wife exhibiting violent behavior toward him in his attorney said he did not want to see them. He took a few phone calls from his wife’s attorney and exchanged a few emails and came to court with him for about an hour one time then he claimed he needed more money. He was absolutely worthless and made me feel as if my son’s wife had two attorneys and my son had zero. And the thing is it shouldn’t be a complicated divorce because they really didn’t have that much in the way of marital property. I feel as if this attorney stole my son’s $5,000.
When my lawyer first viewed my case, he was extremely positive that he can win this case and I will get my chargers dropped. But now my lawyer found out he is close friends with the prosecutor and now everything changed. He’s basically agreeing to everything the state wanted to offer me. Next time I should hire a lawyer that is in a different city. (First time convicted petty theft) no crime record. Under 200 dollars. And I was in medical school working as a teacher. It sucks I spent my savings and wasn’t represented correctly because of friendship.
I hired an attorney on this app called “Off the Record” and it always took him over a month to reply. I didn’t want to bother but when every reply was “sorry, can’t talk right now, I’m with a judge, or I’m not near my desk”. Also a couple months after that I got a notice to fork up 2k for failure to appear in court when the attorney said I don’t need to show because he will show in my place… he didn’t go. He said he will get me my money back from that event from the state. Now it’s almost 2 years later and my calls go straight to voice-mail. I have no idea what to do if I’m being honest.
I hire a lawyer for a custody case. 1. I all ready had been granted temporary custody a year ago. 2. Children both lived with me for 7 years basically they entire life. 3. Hired lawyer during Thanksgiving and Chrismas……….. 4.I filed my own paper work and delivered the paper work myself. Lawyer spent 90% of $ before my first court date. Than asked for 1k more in order to continue I feel like I was taken advantage of
Seasoned family law attorney here. If you have a family law matter, interview at least two attorneys, especially if your case is contentious. You will be working very closely with your family law attorney, so you must have a great working relationship to give you the greatest chance for the best possible result. Great article! Keep up the great work!
Personality is definitely important. The attorney who helped me with my social security disability claim for my autism was honest about the strengths and weaknesses of my case, didn’t promise anything he couldn’t deliver on, and told we what he thought my actual chance was of winning was. He also took the time to explain everything in a way that was easy to understand. Autistic people tend to be blunt and to the point, and we typically have a very low patience level for dishonesty of any kind. And because of my social limitations and attention deficit, I need things explained to me slowly and in unambiguous terms. After talking to him for a few minutes, it was clear he was the right attorney for me. And we won the case because of both his skill and our ability to work together. That was especially important during the hearing. My attorney made his opening statement. The judge asked me some questions. And then my attorney was permitted to ask me a series of questions to bring additional evidence to light. To prepare for it, he told me to answer any question honestly but to never volunteer information. I followed his instructions and, in spite of my social awkwardness, was able to do very well during the hearing. As did my attorney. But with another attorney it could have been a disaster.
My attorney held my rear end accident until 6 months before the statute to sue was about to end…them send me a letter that they are not going to take the case…i say run them out of the country…who needs them but always acting as tho you need them… it’s mind games…i settled for $80,000 on my own…no lawyer, i did that… they are not needed!
I hired my first criminal defense attorney for a misdemeanor & 3 months went by without a single offer from the d.a. He was by the hour & I truly think he’s in cahoots with the d.a delaying everything to squeeze more money out of me. He also over-billed me for time spent in court. I was in court with him for literally 5 minutes & he charged me 45 mins & he did the same thing all 5 other court appearances he charged for way more time then he was actually there. He was 25 minutes late to court today and then when he got there we were done 15 mins later and he charged me for 35 mins. It took him almost 3 months to send me an invoice of how many hours he put towards my case but by the time I got it he was way over the retainer fee I paid. 4 days prior when I asked he said he was getting close to using up the retainer money so in only 4 days he supposedly spent 3+ hours on my case that’s still being dragged out. He’s fired & I’m not paying his lying low life a** any more money. Never again. Now I need to find a new lawyer & I’m down $1000. Great.
I actually won a case for a discrimination lawsuit for a bar I worked at, Then covid happened and the bar had to shut down. they made me sign a document to wait until the bar re opens . I cleft the state, but I could tell the bar opened a couple times for events . Now 3 years later, the bar had been opened for months and my lawyer khe basically ghosted me . I won the case already but the lawyer won’t answer me about getting paid . 3 years after winning the case/
Thank you for this article. I just signed with an accomplished certified workers compensation attorney in the last week. Twice now when I’ve asked her a reasonable question she has replied to my email that I over think things and assume things that aren’t true. It’s a turn off to be belittled for asking questions. It’s normal to have questions and I don’t understand why she just can’t answer them. I’m afraid to ask her any questions now because I can’t stand her replies of labeling me this and that. I’m embarrassed to switch attorneys and tell them why I want to. Should I just put up with her judgmental nature?
I had a very terrible attorney, she ran me around for a statement from a witness and then never used it in a hearing. She requests to only be paid in cash only. Takes your money & then drops you right before a hearing, sticks you high & dry & then claims you owe her more money. And she has a record of it. My son is chronically ill I’m stuck paying for his every need alone, she put in for a raise in child support for him which was a mistake she was suppose to put in to not emanipicate him do to his medical condition. I need help.
My boyfriend and his dad panic because I came home to my boyfriend house. Who I live with for 13 years. Suddenly my boyfriend claimed I was his exgirlfriend file criminal trespassing and the girl he told me was his cousin, suddenly he tells the cops she’s the girl friend and I went to jail over night clueless. I tried to tell my attorney he said I didn’t live there. I hired a private detective and discovered the girl was his real estate agent. I told the state they said my attorney did nothing wrong. My boyfriend brought me back to his property tried to bribe me with property and death threats if I said anything. 4 years later their Rich and I got no justice
Thanks for the insight. I have a personal injury case for a mva, back in 2017. I had two wrecks within one week. Both were cut and dry, as both insurance companies accepted liability for their insured, hitting me from behind, due to not paying attention (talk about bad luck/coincidence). One case settled back in 2019. I was left very uncomfortable as the attorney that accompanied me to the mediation were friends with the opposing counsel’s rep. He spent a majority of the meeting chatting and catching up with him, in the hall. He told me not to think much into it, because it happens often. Needless to say, his tone changed and confident / “we’re going to get it done,” attitude, was out of the window. We departed without settling the second case. Fast forward, there has been minimal communication. Only when a possible trial setting was upon us. I made clear that I wanted to be apart of every aspect of my case and would be okay with monthly updates since communication isn’t their strong suit. I was notified by the firm in April of this year, that trial would be in three days. Because of the admitted constant turnover, no one was prepared to go to trial. It was my absolute wish to go to trial. I was told that it was a bad decision to do so and that a jury would look at me and award nothing, as I present, “well.” They procrastinated until they made me aware that it would be too late to answer the court. 🤷🏽♀️ Knowing that it was a bad idea now, I asked the firm, on several occasions what I needed to do to move my case to another firm, as I did not feel that my best interest was that of the firm.
Currently experiencing some of the things you named. My attorney sent me a settlement agreement and I read it and said I agreed. He still has not not sent me the copy to sign and he has had this agreement since January 18,2022. He takes weeks to respond to emails and barely returns calls. He has called me back about three times in total. I don’t understand why he is holding on to the agreement when all I have to do is sign and wait for my check to come.
My lawyer is a liar. She called and just a day before told me to get ready for my deposition. I had 1 hour with her to prepare. It has been 3 months and was told they are trying to find me a state doctor. Still no state doctor. Such frustration. I do not know what is going on with this state doctor situation.
I am suffering from Bipolar that has robbed me of work. I found an attorney, told him I’m unemployed, nearly homeless, and got denied. He is willing to take the case, but has asked me to mail documents to him. I don’t have any money, not a dime. I’m worried that I won’t be able to provide the documents. I don’t have transportation, there’s no public transportation, and he’s about an hour away from me. What should I do? I can’t seem to find a mental health service in my area, 211 is useless, and my caseworker is useless. What should I do?
If your defense attorney starts making excuses for the cops, prosecutor or judge after your false arrest, then you need to fire his ass right away. Don’t pay a lawyer that charges just for a consult. If he cant remember basic facts you told him and he’s handling 3 or more big cases at the same time, get rid of him. If he suggests you to settle to a lesser charge for a crime you didn’t commit, fire him. If his first action in court is to request an adjournment to a later date, fire his ass. He should be either requesting an acquittal or a trial.
I paid $7000 to do a probate case. I was then charged $2000 which i paid and now my attorney is askong for another $2000. I hardly ever call her. She did something wrong or filed late and still charged me for their error and I’m still having to pay another $2000. Mind you I’m paying out of my pocket. Idk what to do. I hired an attorney previously and paid $2500 before her. So I’m down almost $15000. I’m not rich and this has caused issues in my personal relationships. Its so expensive to die. My god.
My son is incarcerated and on his 4th attorney court appointed. He and myself are ignorant to timelines and motions. I have researched a lot online and Attorney articles. My son has ask from beginning ” what kind of plea agreement is being offered” not one has even had time on his case. It’s a very serious case and I’m panicking so is my son. I’ve spoke with this attorney along with the 3rd attorney only once and she passed away. He got this attorney n meet with him a week ago n I’ve reached out 3 times in a week n half n left messages and still can’t get any call or response. Idk what to do? The first attorney was during Covid n all was still. He didn’t even get in touch with my son for 6 months. He withdrew when he got a let go letter. The 2nd attorney not once got in touch with my son for 7 months and when the first court date came, this 2nd attorney told the court he isn’t representing my son. I knew that attorney couldn’t take my sons case because I knew he couldn’t because he couldn’t as I knew he knew victims family. But why wait 7 months? He should of recused automatically instead of letting 7 months go by. The 3rd attorney passed away n not once even filed for discovery as the 4th attorney now told me so. But now this attorney I feel good with won’t return my calls at all. It’s been a year n he hasn’t talk to my son but once n it’s almost a year n met me once. This is terrible and very important. I just am the one to advise my son. I’m not ok now because I need to speak with the attorney.
My daughter had a very bad accident, a company parked a lowboy in the roadway and left it over night, my daughter came along at night, and crashed into it. almost died and has life changing injuries. she hired a lawyer, he filed the case, she went to the discovery, the construction company had discovery. waiting game for year’s. my daughter contacted her attorney many times and 2 month’s ago. he gave her a bs update, this has been going on from 2014. she still need’s surgeries. today she found out at the court house, her case has been dropped because her lawyer was unresponsive, they said report him to the bar and hire a new lawyer to sue her attorney. so what information can you donate in this case. thanks so much for your article.
I have insufficient counsel on my hired lawyer. A few things you are talking about. But I have a question. Through my family court procedures. CPS messed up. And ended up getting off my case after i proved it and told everyone I was suing. So the judge asked if i can pay for a guardian ad litem. I said yes. And he appointed one in a court order. I had to pay full payment. The first day we met. We had a conflict of interest. He also never did all the things the order said. And also filed is investigation and recommendation in three days. As my own lawyer then. I filed a contempt of court order on him. Furthering the conflict of interest. He failed. But became part of a conspiracy to deprive me of my rights under color of law. He is a court officer with an oath. But my question is. Cant i sue him for insufficient counsel? I’m thinking yes. Make me know though.
My court appointment attorney didn’t get the sopenas that I requested, and she pressured me into taking the plea bargain, but she also lied to my face multiple times, she told me not to pay the bills for my wife because it doesn’t go towards the child support, but my wife asked her sister to ask me if I could make the payment so I did but at the sacrifice of the child support payment, I also sent proof to my court appointment attorney that I was not the abusive one in my house hold, it was someone else that forced my family to live like prisoners in our own home, but she pushed me to take the plea bargain when I said to her staff member to get the sopenas so that I can go to trial and now I have a criminal record for being there for my children, my wife told her brother that she wasn’t pushing for the charges it was the arresting officer, but my lawyer said that it was my wife how do i find that out for sure, also how do I get out of the child support payment since I have been paying the house payment for my children as well as the light bill, and I am now behind in my child support payment as a result, please help me. I am a Disabled American Veteran of the USMC, I can’t physically work because of the service connected injuries, and this now criminal record, I have been railroaded in the court room and I am no criminal, I need help with this ASAP please. Right now I’m trying to find the paperwork to motion for the child support payment to be terminated and I will be getting a trust account for my children to do the same purpose.
My attorney lied to me regarding my charges and they were false . So he told me that I should take the offer and I could get it expunged later. Now 3 years after the fact, I discovered that the type of charge that I allowed them to find me guilty for are very difficult to get expunged and I had photographic evidence that the incident never even occurred. Now I have a felony over my head for a fictitious incident! Wth? Also I he did not even trust to defend me he made up his own strategy which I objected to. But my mom would not fire him and now I can’t find a decent job.
We hired a criminal defense lawyer in Aug 2021 … this is Jan 2023 and case is just now coming to end. They’ve taken $32k…. We hired one certain attorney (so we thought) and now are on the 4th attorney! There was no defense given, they claimed to mail out a copy of the evidence to me and I never received it, the state made an offer so they made one counter offer, was told to take deal or go to trial after stating trial is not a good option then they called requesting $10k more for attorney fees! They refuse to give me our case file (after requesting repeatedly) they will not give us a breakdown of where the money went! COMMUNICATION… try months of no communication from them! They dropped the ball on several issues! There was a paper signed to where court appearances was waived so a court date was missed and incarceration took place! Come to find out if was a mandatory appearance and the lawyer NEVER reached out!!! The lawyer even told judge during arraignment it was on them as to why the date was missed! There’s too much to even address!
I have went through a hearing, appellate court, and superior court and won all three. Being tried for catastrophic case and won. My monies stop in March of 2019 without notice. Was ask did my attorney tell me. No! I understand what you saying, I didn’t know about the two year. So I couldn’t get another attorney. So I had to keep him. I work my case myself through YouTube and attorney’s investigation from another firm. Long story short my injury begin in 2012 almost ten years ago. My employer was made to pay me my past due monies from workers comp. My attorney took most of the money. They paid back $74, 000.00 and I got $28000.00 the check was written by his firm. Now I am going to write my Govenor of my state. The Governor of my state wonder why these folks have been on workers comp for so long. I have been trying to get advice on how to approach this . It’s sad that even folks that suppose to help only wants to rob you. But I am not afraid to stand for what I believe in. Thank you sir
Sometimes Public Defenders can be better because they dont have a financial motive. I had a case for OVI and firearms and this lawyer wanted to charge me $7,500. I debated and said screw it and got a public defender. He was a sharp young man and got my ovi dropped to reckless op and i didnt have to go to jail. Good thing i didnt waste that 7500
You just taught me, why my attorney kept bugging me to know if I had done anything wrong. He wanted that info to use against me. When I finally got my client file, after firing him, I read through it and found no notes of him actually reading discovery. When I questioned him, he said, that was his, so according to what you just said, that was egregious. I don’t believe he actually read all of the discovery, which was 50 years of medical records, and that’s why I looked for proof that he did. I just sent my complaint to the bar. Can I ask if it’s ethical to charge me for his consulting with someone else? Thanks
What about you have been giving a court-appointed attorney who refused to communicate with you? And refused to subpoena records they knew for over 2 months you needed to prove your innocents. To find out that the same lawyer has the same last name as one of the public officers. Of the town. Participating in the behavior, you went public about. The lawyer drew from the case after I demanded she gets the documents! Got a new lawyer who has ties to the person who not only signed an agreement to not hold me account table for the illegal behavior but also terminated me. At my new job. When they won the bid at auction.
Going thru a custody battle right now and I only talked to my lawyer when I first hired him few months ago. Everything else been emails with the paralegal. Had court this week and found out its going to trial, still haven’t talked to the lawyer personally. I sent a email to the paralegal fussing and cussing about the communication and why I’m not being told whats going on or how it’s looking or anything. All they worried about is child support and I haven’t seen my 8 year old daughter in 9 months meanwhile!! And for no reason at all besides the fact she like all babymamas wanna be free and keep dads away. So I’m going for 50/50 custody.
My attorney would not return calls for weeks or at all. They never sent an itemized statement. Now he’s been disbarred. Attorney #2 took my case and asked for a lump sum rather than retainer. After he cashed my check the first phone call he had the nerve to say “why don’t you work”? He never got caught up on my case, 3 people testified against me then when I was to testify he said “nothing further” to the judge. I lost the case. Then his phones were disconnected and he would not answer any emails. I’m done with attornies. $18k out the window and lost my house. It’s not worth it!
My attorney says to me that “there’s right and there’s wrong and there’s legal” when I ask him “what about the truth” ? He also never knows anything about my claim when I ask him questions. He instead says “look, I ‘ve been doing this 30 years” and then skirts the issue and tells me he has to make another call. He does not read emails and does not print up any of the documents I send him to discuss when we meet. His associate told me that he just doesn’t like to read, or write for that matter. I find it unusual that he is this way as there is no transparency in what he says or does. I feel like I can’t trust him and that he is dishonest.
A couple personal tips, I ran into are, red flags. A couple of them are over sharing personal information, like health or family or other personal information, I recommend interviews and seeing how they all speak. How they engage with the client is really important. If they are trying to sell their service to you, of course they may share some personal stuff, but if they’re talking about themselves or health issues alot, it can be a red flag that they may not be current on standards of professional communication, or that they might be trying to play a game with you in a way, to make you feel more attached to them or sorry for them, or become your”friend”. Most attorneys don’t become true friends with people they represent, although I’m sure occasionally that can happen. My communication training teaches that there is a line in sharing though, one is called inappropriate self disclosure, and one is unnecessary self disclosure. Obviously, inappropriate would be like if you’re wife cheated on you and you’re having a bad day, unnecessary is more like, I have a bunch of doctors appointments to go to or I’m in AA. If the attorney is working after hours, and/or sounds like they have been drinking or makes mistakes after hours, that’s another red flag. Attorneys should not be working after hours, under the influence, or making mistakes when they’re tired after hours or talking about things they shouldn’t be with the family of the client. I think red flags are pretty much an encompassing nature regarding boundaries.
I think attorneys should get paid only when case is done! That will force them to do things in a more reasonable timely manner. My 2 + year amicable separation would be trimmed down to 6 months. It’s insane how slow some of them are. I get they are swamped and I’m not only client but I’m at my wits end with the slowness. It comes off as lack of empathy.
My lawyer always returned my calls, always showed up to court, but didn’t even look at my case? He claimed that the traffic stop was consensual, when the cop had her entire emergency light array initiated, and then skipped over the fact that there was no RAS to begin with, and tried to get me to plea guilty!
I hired a workers’ comp attorney. I literally spoke to him once every eight months during the five years this has been going on. I had enough when I asked him last month to give me a call for an update, and he said, “There’s no need to call you because I have no update.” I hadn’t spoken to this guy on the phone in nine months, and the carrier wouldn’t speak to me because I was being represented. So, my next email to him was to let him know he was terminated. Now, I’m representing myself, and I have court next week, but I still have to pay him 20%, plus expenses. 🤦🏾♂️
This was really helpful for me and super reassuring. I have a lawyer right now, first one ever, not only didn’t have any of these traits (except one I can mention in a moment) they exceed in all of the errors. The one quality I worry about is rudeness. Lots of the times it could just be that it’s related to things I don’t know, but I truly think he’s rude to people or doesn’t know that he is coming across like that. He responds to all of my comments near immediately since I started with him about a year ago. We have yet to work with the judge but one party has settled, and we have a settlement conference vs the other party end of next month. So far he has left me extremely satisfied. I could just have thin skin related to rudeness. Examples are things like “you need to pull yourself together” or telling me I don’t know what I’m talking about as a few examples.
I would like to know if there is something we can do if the attorney charged a lot of money, $26000, and never did the work and won’t respond to my calls, they will not receive me when I go inquire about the case. It has been about six or seven years and nothing. Is there a place I can put a complaint because it’s not right, it’s not ok to take money and never do the work. Is there something I can do to get the money back? I live in NY.
I got into a accident and the other party took full responsibility but it’s taken a year for them to settle and I got a max amount of 20,000 but the attorney is taken 8,000 and I’m only getting 6,600 back and the rest is going to medical. There is so much more but that’s what this issue I have at the moment.
After my last attorney, I swear I will literally shop around for an attorney if I ever need one again before signing with the first person. I sat down with my attorney, who had no empathy at all, and he didn’t like to explain himself to me regarding anything about my case. The receptionist would always say he would give me a call, but I would wait weeks and weeks, even months, and it wouldn’t be anything until I went to his office and demanded to speak to him.
I was only told about a retainer fee $500 not $500 an hr to do not much. Been to court 2x on victim restitution case and third one in couple weeks. I provided him the crash report and my insurance. I could litigated with other party been done. Example I had I lady hit my car I called her and insurance and already got reimbursed. So why does he not know what damages are? I had full coverage so surely up to 50k property damage should be adequate. Rule I didn’t need a bad lawyer and could have done this with my insurance and them communicating with the other party.
I got a lawyer that said he would give me 3 free court appearances and charge and $500 for each court appearance after that. I thought that was a great deal because I expect he would just request an acquittal since there was no evidence of a crime let alone that I committed it. It was just my accusers word against mine. But then he kept requesting an adjournment to a later date. I should have fired him after the third time but he did it a gain. I didn’t have to fire him since he then requested to be removed from my case. Then he had the nerve to send me a bill for the 5th appearance in which all he did was quit. I didn’t pay it, but he managed to rip me off a thousand dollars and cause me to come to court for nothing 5 times. and two more times as I requested a public defender.
what can i do when I HIGHLYY suspect my lawyer is mishandling the funds from the sale of my property. She is refusing to send me a statement from the account and has cut communication for a long time now. Aside from the mishandling of funds she’s not keeping me updated on my case…didn’t even show up to a hearing and had the audacity not to tell me… I recently found out a client is suing her for mishandling of funds most likely. What should I do to let the courts know that the funds might be mishandled since they are the ones who authorized her to hold the funds? Or is there a way I can get the courts to make her send a statement?
Hi I hired a lawyer for food poisoning, I bought a cantaloupe at BJ’s that they injected something in it and now I am taking pills, the lawyer firm agreed to take my case and then I finally talk to them and first he was rude, 2 he flat out tell me oh don’t put your hopes up you can’t be rich on this case the max you will get is $50000 and he said if agreed I will send the demand . And he was pressuring me. I told him how know why don you make the demand if they comes with amount then we discuss it and refuse. He said he will drop it. Please give me your intake on that.
I got rear-ended on a red light, on my bday; the 24th of May, last year. I was going back and forth looking for lawyers. Some only wanted to do the property damage, while others wanted to only do the injury. Its almost been a year and my lawyer got me 1k. She said bc I wasn’t going to enough chiro visits. As of rn, I got permanent damaged and I need surgery which I can’t get bc I don’t have any money for it. My lawyer even has me signing a paper in which I can’t sue the young girl, nor her dad, nor the insurance company and I am not even allowed to speak about this w nobody. My car was totaled and I got 400 dollars for it and my back hurts and I feel like I got fucked over. I was w my wife in the car and her lawyer got her 25k for the same accident. How is this possible?
Doesn’t respond to emails, phone calls, numerous messages beyond collecting initial payments . I hired and attorney last year 2021 and haven’t heard anything from him . I fell for an expungement and it’s been over a year and I haven’t heard anything nor can I contact him . Did I just get legally screwed for $1500 ?
2:10 I called my attorney 3 times last week Monday and Friday and now today next week Monday long story short I broke my leg at work and physical therapy told me today if I wanted to work in caper weeks and In a month and I told my attorney that I was not going back to that job and he said not to tell anyone but he’s not answering my calls to tell him what’s the next step about work “Edit I’m perusal more of this article I he hasn’t called me back”
I am desperate for advice. I live in GA but had to file lawsuit against my Aunt in Indiana for stealing from my mom who died young at 59 from MS while I lived away. I’m on 5th Atty 8 yrs along because literally every single one has missed deadlines, weren’t returning emails or calls and weren’t keeping me up to date etc. ! I literally could have sued ALL. My last atty literally got half my case dismissed losing me over $500Kplus! And damages can be proven. The court of Appeals basically says this and local atty confirmed its sue-able. This guy that screwed me passed me off to his friend before I could even digest what he did. This new guy has just missed a big deadline also!! It is a $1.5 Million case involving family business stocks. I am sole heir because my brother died in accident. Lost all my family. Aunt took advantage. I am not a wayward. I am luckily middle class income well enough off on my own but being screwed over and over from out of state. These attys keep taking all my $$ and getting me nowhere. I am literally in tears. Feeling hopeless. How can this be EVERY atty out of 5 bad?? !! It is impossible to find a descent atty in Indiana…let alone one to sue another. Should I go to the judge and tell him what is going on? He sees that this atty just missed deadline and had to appear for request for relief. Everyone sees 5 attys and thinks it me… Unless they look and see all the missed deadlines on dockets x 8yrs. I even have this last guy on recording yelling at me for questioning why.
Can you talk to me if I have a question about my legal case and actually I am the inventor of the strongest mechanical device in the world for rope access it’s a friction Aide for height related scenarios.. It is Wednesday 2024 I am definitely a very down-to-earth and I believe that I have been gifted with a lot of Education that I don’t know how to contact the right people to further what I can think of and my brain never shuts off LOL sometimes God brings me in contact with people I need to be in contact with 0:49 what’s the time that what you said was all you needed to say and I said to myself he’s the guy I can talk to about a lot of problems I have going on in my life
My lawyer for workers comp only spoke to me when I hired him and then 2.5 years later at a hearing and left his hearing reps to handle everything. He then got upset with me for questioning his charge and wanting a itemized bill to show what he did and then requested to release himself from my case so I had to find a new lawyer. New lawyer isn’t very knowledgeable and has sent me a C&R with error 3 times because he doesn’t proofread what has been sent to me. I am beyond frustrated. I went a full year with 0 money coming in even after QME report was in my favor.
My former attorney missed a deadline, resulting in a lien placed on my home. I gave him an opportunity to correct the mistake. He continued to bill me for his mistake and then demanded more money before discovering the conversation he had with the opposing attorney. Finally he said the opposing attorney said the deadline was met and the property lien was solely my fault. WTH!! I demanded he get proof from the other attorney, but he didn’t like that. He said he and his staff worked on my case, so he said. One big problem if the opposing attorney did admit that he ignored the written request was that my attorney should had informed her she is in violation of the Fair Collection Act and demanded the removal of the lien. This wasn’t expressed to me by my attorney he was only trying to deflect responsibility onto me. The bottom line he wasn’t hired to defend a property lien. It became a property lien case due to his neglect.
I had 2 major causes of action: wrongful termination & salary discrimination. The attorney and I won at the jury trial and Appeal for wrongful termination and received 1.5 million dollars from 2017 to 2020 and quit my case. I was reinstated at a lower salary compared to my colleagues (same rank, experience and achievement). I have contacted several attorneys and they tell me to sue my former attorney for malpractice. Second, my judgment is pending since 2017. I have been told that I may not get economic damages-past/future only pain and suffering (past & future). The Defendants are not willing to pay new attorneys on percentage basis (only hourly rate). Please help.
The probate attorney has twice not informed us a document needed to be filed, first was a inventory of assets, and now a annual estate accounting, we only learn items are needed when we get a letter from the court saying it is past due, for example on 8/19/23 we got a letter from court saying the annual accounting was due on May 27th 2023, and we have 20 days to file the document. This is maddening, not sure even what is needed for this, however if history serves, phone calls and e mails are generally not answered for on average 3 to 4 weeks despite many attempts to contact her. We hired probate attorney to guide and advise us, yet in most cases outside sources are where information is gathered. It has come to the point that she can’t be relied on even for simple standard filings to be done, it is left up to us to ensure they get done. I have tried to ask her how we can better communicate but she just acts as if it isn’t important. Not sure what to do.
I had a medical bill of $63,000 about 2 years ago. My lawyer told me he negotiated it down to $5,000 and paid in full. Then just yesterday I get a collections notice saying they want the remaining $58,000? My lawyer said it was negotiated to a lesser amount and paid in full? How does a hospital sell this debt to a third party after it was apparently settled? I’m not paying a dime out of my own pocket because the accident was not even my fault. It was some a-hole with no license and a DUI.
I just read an article, the title was “9 types of difficult legal clients and how to handle them”. The article proceeded to describe different types of clients with names to indicate what was difficult about them. For example something like Irritating Irma, or Defensive Dora. A desperate attempt by someone in the legal profession to put the blame on the client for not getting the job done. In fact, the truth is very much the opposite. The real problem is ” how a client should handle a difficult lawyer.”
Oh my God I almost feel like I need a lawyer to go after my lawyer now. Can’t respond to emails For months and I’m not talking like a month. I’m talking like 3 months if that and even then calling doesn’t help. I literally have to go in and she may not even be in Also she Can’t seem to pin down any of the other attorneys. They make some excuse THAT THEY ARE not available for any of the court dates and it’s 3 years now after a severe car accident that left me unemployed for Over a year.😭 My lawyer is from Allan and Allen and I’m the victim. I was Struck by much substantially bigger vehicle Waiting at a stop light on an off ramp. Other insurer is State Farm and they won’t take any responsibility And pretend that they can’t show up to court when she puts dates out oppositely.(( I am in VA but Guy that hit me is from MD and was in my state when he hit me))
I was told probate atty fees and cost would be paid out of the estate but atty started charging me. I explained I need to step back to save up money. They sent me letter stating to contact them when I’m ready to resume. When i did 2 months later, he ghosted me. When I called to go pick up my original docs, they told me they only have copies. No original will. This atty also had me wait out the period in which creditors could file claim and told me we’d begin the probate after creditors could no longer make claims. I asked him “that’s allowed?” He said “Sure!” Now that I’ve seen how he operates, I’m sure this was illegal. Is it malpractice?
Before the pandemic, when I went to update some information of me on one of my properties–the one I share with a relative, one attorney never got back to me, another attorney left important paperwork of mine in his copy machine that I had to remind him to retrieve. So, I did not utilize them. I called three more attorneys after the pandemic, all had their websites up, but their phones were disconnected. Another said they were not taking cases due to the pandemic even though it is almost over, and she referred me to another attorney that never returned my call. More than four years have passed, and it still has not been taken care of. It is due to the county I live in. When I called an attorney in another county, I was told that I have to use an attorney from the county I reside. I live in Upstate, NY.
I ran into a settlement mill. Three years of doing all the Oat and doctors requests. Basically, a long rehab. I paid my own bills and medical is 155k and out if pocket for me 15k maybe. I signed the initial contract and evidently it was in the plain that I pay expensives. Over promise than tried to make me settle in first arbitration. Only offered 25k, then before we ended the meeting, offered 250k. My lawyer wanted me to take quick money but I had not been released from medical doctors and no guarantees of full recovery at that time. I wanted to ask for future medical payment. He basically blew me off. He was set on me taking money and go despite asking for 750-1mill. At the arbitration in Oct 2021.i had also had a outside doctor evaluate and said, I may not get better but can improve. additional. I did everything that my lawyer told .e to do up until that time. I wanted to go to court. I had 140k medical bills at that time and dealing with the injury.plus, my oop of 15k was not included because nothing had been calculated with their help, yet. It was a quick rush before the arbitration and out of the blue. Three years of slow and constant communications on both sides was great. I was hurt so my life was just PT four – two days a week, rest, and seeing my doctors and memory/speech therapist. so the mean and dismissiveness was brand new. I declined the offer in writing and I was verbal laid out and big time pressured. So, I was asked to pay 20k for deposition. I was surprised to hear that but I couldn’t come up with that in two months.
Hi, I work in a bank and got a transfer to a new place few months ago. While I was working a customer came to withdraw a fixed deposit and asked her politely to wait a few minutes in order to finalize her documents, the she began to shout she couldn’t wait and immediately wants her withdrawal to be done. So I got a help of other office mate and finised her task but while working I asked from her where was her ID and she didn’t even botherd to reply me. While I was dumbfoudnded about her actions soon I realized she already gave me her ID and that’s why she didn’t say anything. Then she straight went to the manager and made a complaint about my poor customer service and so on.. Every staff member stood by my side becaue they knew who she is and I didn’t do anything wong. Turns our that’s how she treats others (easy targets). It turns out she is a lawyer. Since I was wrongly accused, I want to complaint about her actions to the BAR or to the Ombudsman since she is doing this for ages. What I want to know is complaint aganst a layer is possible through a letter to BAR will they accept it, in a condition like this? Thank you.
My boyfriend and i were at a hotel for the night on june 30,2018, and a outside trepassor entered, started an argument with my boyfriend and punched him in the face. My boyfriend sad to say ended up accidently killing him with a stab of a boxcutter. i was the only witness from beginning to end of the fight yet i never made it to court and a paid 20,0000 attorney, Nicholas Faulkner received 20 years in prison and a 8,000 dollar bill from the sister of the deceased. Can anyone please give me some advice on what i can do to fix this railroad of my friend.
I was hit by a semi 2 years ago. The truck driver is at fault, which is stated in my accident report. My neck, shoulder and especially my wrist are damaged. I’ve had countless Injections in my neck, 2 epidural injections, prp injections and finally wrist surgery. My attorney and I have butt heads a couple times in the beginning. As soon as I say I’m looking for another firm, he blows up my phone asking what he can do to fix the situation. Now, we filed a lawsuit and my trial date is in August of 2023. I need a loan so I can survive during this whole process, which the litigation attorney said was not a problem. I moved in with my 77 year old dad out of state, I can’t work because my wrist is still injured, I’ve maxed out credit cards, etc. My main attorney is supposed to set it up for me, but he’s busy working on another law firm in a different state. The litigation attorney is trying his best, it’s been two weeks since I requested the loan, but I’m overall not satisfied with the main attorney. I feel helpless to the point I’m taking depression medication. I’ve never felt this bad in my life. I just wanted an attorney I could trust. That’s what I get for not researching enough and believing reviews on Google.
How’s a couple of months 6-12 months. And still never answered my question. And everytime I get a phone call they asked for my information all over again because they lost it and the Knicks excuse when I ask them would be because they no longer work for us. And now I got someone calling me once every 3 months that don’t even speak English. They were gone so long I thought the company went belly-up until I received a phone call and they said no they just changed their number and not one time have I called them that they answered the phone. Up to this day for three years ago they have not updated me once I don’t even know if they ever been a court or if they profound me a lawyer in The Firm to take the case
I have a question. I’m in a custody battle with the other parent. I got billed for my paralegal communicating with the opposing party’s screw up. They charged me $150. My child’s mom didn’t file with the courts. Instead she sent it to my attorney. And I got charged for my child’s mother not following directions. Is this normal? Because my paralegal honestly shouldn’t be giving opposing party legal advice that I have to pay for.
Yes I paid attorney 10g,for a 6page commutation application to the PARDON AND Parole board, attorney took almost 2urs to file draining the 10g retainer fee,,I had to prepay all my collect calls when i got his itemized billing Iearn that he even charged me to speak with him each call as well charge to have my family contact and relay messages to me,the lawyer ask for 2g more to continue,,I feel extorted ?
I hired a lawyer to sue a client. The attorney told me after 3 years that he was working on other peoples shit n dragging his feet went past statute of limitations. Said we trying to sue him n force him to sell company building… I just don’t under stand how we had a cut n dry case with evidence n he just dragged his feet as he told it to me.., what can I do?!?!?
I wish NOLO had more services because most lawyers do not seem to care. I have not received my business mail, some gmail, phone calls for more than a decade except for government mail, and I wish NOLO had a form to fill out that would be legal addressed to private and government agencies with dropdown list. LinkedIn had my business address wrong for years on a reply button. I am not on LinkedIn anymore. When I emailed USPS complaints, I received a reply for caution that my email had been intercepted and had not gone directly to USPS. These legal matters pile up. I do not feel that I receive all of my correspondences or packages. This has been going on for decades. When I lived in NYC I happened to call a relative in another state and he asked if I had received his package he sent me, and I had not, I went to the post office and it was there for days, and I was not notified. I need to find an attorney for losses also. It does not seem a good sign that attorneys do not outreach on YouTube, I find that strange. Anyway, I decided to look for an attorney again starting in Jan 2023.
My lawyer keeps making excuses as why he hasn’t yet filed a complaint against the defendants. It’s been 4 months and he still has excuses; however, once a week, I get a text him promising that the complaint will be ready “tomorrow” or “today” or “tonight”, etc. It’s been going on for 4 months and now he’s yelling at me telling me what a bad client I am because I don’t know how to answer his questions and I would make a terrible witness and he’s seriously considering dropping me as a client. I’m lost for words. He made so many promises when I hired him.
I had a pro bono attorney… but he wasn’t really pro bono. Turns out that my case involved a statute which, if invoked, would provide an award of attorney fees from the opposing party. He filed an motion for summary judgment on the issue, and, sure enough, the judge ruled in our favor and awarded the fees. But the judge had already “pre-judged” the case, and he unwittingly “published” his intent to rule on the other issues in the plaintiff’s favor in the (otherwise unrelated) order for summary judgment. This prejudice, of course, disqualified him as biased. But ALSO created a conflict of interest for our attorney: if our attorney informed us of the bias, the judge would be removed, the order vacated, and his “bonus” fees would be lost. And so he took the chance and did not tell us about either the judge’s bias or his conflict of interest. (Naturally, the other side was thrilled and didn’t say a word.) At mediation, however, he tried to talk us into settling for NOTHING, just as the judge intended to rule. We did not. He grew desperate and ultimately said “Look, the judge is a loose cannon who has already made up his mind and doesn’t like to be told he’s wrong. He will NOT change his mind.” Immediately, he knew he messed up, because we knew that judges were NOT supposed to do that. We asked him to explain his remarks, and he REFUSED. So we fired him. Later, we saw the judge’s biased remarks in the order for summary judgment. It turns out that not only were the judge’s conclusions inappropriately expressed, but it was an incorrect legal conclusion, too.
So my law firm took my auto crash case and didn’t do anything for me didn’t tell me the government had to pay for my chiropractor until the cases was over and stopped contacting me so I got a new attorney and firm now they say I would have to pay my previous attorney for nothing they didn’t do anything w my case my work comp and told me I could do nothing about properly healing how do I fight this they deserve nothing.
I’m working with an attorney now who is working on our employment case. They already reviewed half our documents and I gave them another maybe 6 documents. Most are one pages, but a contract that is 3 pages. Now they want an evaluation fee to review the additional docs. They are estimating 5-10 hours to do this. Sounds like a lot. What do you think?
My atty never checked with the court to make sure everything was on track until i called to inquire that everything was on track…..a couple business days before the court date. Well the guy never got served so the date got pushed back. Also, i believe they had the defendant mailed a notification and THEN sent a server. He wont answer the door. Why would they mail him, tipping him off and THEN send someone over? That only helps the criminal.
Heaven forbid us mortals should annoy our attorney! I’d be glad to be annoyed for $450 an hour, especially if I could drag a case on the way they do, sucking up the client’s money the longer it goes on, not answering questions in a timely manner, not answering questions ever. The whole profession needs fumigation, the sooner the better. ‘Esquire” — big deal! The bad ones give the good ones a bad name.
Odd question? Can anyone tell me if an attorney didn’t give a new court order to her client are they still in contempt? They are aware of some things that were agreed upon but some new stuff was added by the plaintiffs attorney. The thing is the plaintiffs attorney sent the write up of the order to the other parties attorney twice and they never responded. So then the plaintiffs attorney who wrote up the court order went ahead and sent it to the court. It took the court one and a half months to actually sign it so even during that time the defendants attorney had time to argue what was in it that they didn’t agree with. She never did that either. So the order was signed May 18, 2023 and the defendant has picked up the child and left the county when it was court ordered that they cannot. That was one of the things that was put into the court order, that was extra, so can the defendant be held in contempt which he’s in contempt for at least five or six more things as well.
I gave up on my workers comp lawyer, She screwed up my paper work, didn’t even sent my medical reports to my second opinion Dr. When i got there the Dr. said i can’t see you because your reports didn’t show up..I let the lawyer know.. & she said. ooh well I am scared now..what type of garbage is that.. It got to the point..to where last year.. I didn’t received no email no text for 3-4 months.. No communication, she doesn’t show me nothing on my case.. I get it. I am not the only case..but I have tried everything..they didn’t even authorize my medical so i can see my workers comp Doc.. It has become way too much.. I have too much anxiety, stress, & pain..unfortunate I can’t change lawyers..due to her being the 2nd lawyer..😞😣
I think you should go ahead and include the category: Corrupt Lawyers. When my Sister in law stole my inheritance . She was able to get the Lawyer to change the date of My Brothers death on the court filing. At the time, I was very Ill with Acute CRPS. They were able to get away with taking 5 acres of land in Lake Isabella and 5 acres of land in Johnson Valley, CA. Worth approx. $80k. It’s fair to include the category: Corrupt Lawyers
We wanted to get the best attourney of our city, in regards to my inmigration progress, even though we made everything legal by the book, he addressed that he will be needed because ” many USCIS officers don’t want legal inmigrants and they don’t even like interracial couples like us” . We felt shocked and disgusted to hear such unprofessional and passive-aggresive racist words coming from a 20 year old license inmigration attorney. We decide not to proceed with him after that terrible consultation.
It’s been 9 years since my accident and the case was settled back in 2021. I have asked repeatedly to pay the doctors and get me paid out. My attorney is telling me he wants to negotiate better with the doctors. I think over 1 and a half is a long time to negotiate with doctors. How can I legally get the attorney to pay the doctors or pay me?
I do have criminal defense attorney that represents my son has not seen my son in 6 months nor speak to him he refuses to respond to emails, my son is sitting and stressed in prison. I need answers to ? Because the judicial system works hand in hand they sometimes work against you after you pay them expecting the best throw you below the bus
OMG Taylor, I HATE my attorney. He won’t read my emais, won’t listen when i talk, won’t consider relevent information and he has hung up the phone on me TWICE for ASKING a question. I HAAATE him. Can he harm or prejudice my case or can he withold any information from my file, which I desperately want to give to a NICER attorney. And right now you are talking abour reporting to the bar. Will attorney actualy “change his tune” if i tell him I will complain?
My partner has been getting terrible public defenders First one never responded to any calls or emails (months of waiting) only to hear one strategy. Never even tried to i don’t know…. Get my partner a mental health evaluation, without his defense would not work. Second public defender Said we would get one, i manage to get ahold of them, I ask them when he’ll get the mental health evaluation done for my partner and he tells me he doesn’t think he needs one ” you were assigned to my partner to help him but instead they’re paying for your opinion based on what exactly?! Last i checked they’re not a forensic psychologist, their opinion means as much as the rock on the bottom of my shoe… Either get it done or take yourself off the case.

This is concerning a VA claims case, after I had filed all of my cases myself and set them up to a VA appeals board I then hired an attorney. He said on my case for two and a half years, then he dropped me saying that no matter who I get to represent me he still want his 20%, year and a half later I got 100% pnt and he is still wanting 20% even though he did not represent me how can I fight this therefore I did some work but not most disability group in Michigan
I’ve only hired two lawyers in my life I got absolutely scammed both times. This most recent time a year and a half ago I paid a lawyer almost $2,000 to expunge some charges I got nearly 15 years. 1.5 years later and it hasn’t even been filed. From what I’ve read online the paperwork only takes 15 minutes. So she can’t even spend 15 minutes after getting almost $2,000. Of my money after I paid her she hit me with the bait and switch and waited a month before she even replied back to a simple email. On average it takes her 3 weeks to reply back and then says absolutely nothing just that it’ll get filed but never does. She also had the audacity to tell me she’ll file it if she has to go to the judge house. Gosh im a idiot for dealing with another lawyer😢
I want to start with the first human rights issue of abuse of me, the FBI experimental spraying of LSD in the Lexington Avenue line in Manhattan, NYC when my mom was pregnant with me in the early 1960s, and she traveled on that line. I have not been able to find an attorney so far for other human rights issues of abuse of me, normally attorneys just take a percentage of money from cases won and do not charge for lawsuits. I have a handful of human rights issues over the past decades, and I am now a pre-senior. I have not tried much to find an attorney they do not seem to care, but I am seeking now. Normally, there should be collective lawsuits for human rights abuses, and I do not see that, maybe it occurs sometimes . . .
I hired an attorney who sent me to his friend ( a trial attorney) absolutely the worst decision ever! They treat me as if I am the defendant! I have had 2 major surgeries due to this accident, and have NOT been the same! I was supposed to have had mediation the beginning of December 2022… Not only have I NOT had the mediation, my attorneys NEVER Retrieved bills or medical expense’s for my last surgery and they NEVER told me the mediation was canceled. I have called and sent emails and NO ONE HAS RETURNED NOR ANSWERED MY EMAILS! One of the attorneys was so rude to me! IAM BEING VICTIMIZED ALL OVER AGAIN ! The statue of limitations stops me from hiring another attorney. There is so much more that I can’t share! I’m so depressed and emotionally exhausted! I filed with the bar association and it has been 3 months and no word, no call, no email no nothing! I called the county to get my plead /case number and my name is no where to be found! I NEED HELP!
