Is Chicago Appropriate For Kids?
Chicago is a classic tale that delves into crime, corruption, and the undeserved celebrity status that has entertained audiences since the late 20th century. While it features adult themes, it can be appropriate for older teens with parental discretion. Primarily rated PG-13 for sexual content, dialogue, and violence, the show includes strong language, sexual references, and briefly explicit scenes, such as a non-graphic opening number. Parents should consider the content, as themes of murder and prison may not suit younger children, but it is largely suitable for mature 12-year-olds, particularly those who enjoy dancing.
The show is framed as a black comedy musical set in 1920s Chicago and, despite its serious topics, maintains a lighthearted tone. While there are mild sexual jokes and skimpy costumes, it also offers the vibrant backdrop of the Windy City, which is family-friendly, boasting cultural events and free attractions for visitors.
For families exploring Chicago, there's an abundance of activities from the Lincoln Park Zoo to Millennium Park that cater to various age groups. Overall, Chicago offers engaging experiences, though the show itself primarily targets older teens and adults, making it more fitting for a night out rather than a family outing.
