Why Does Lois Voice Change In Family Guy?

Lois Griffin's voice has evolved over time, originally characterized by a slower pitch, as voiced by actress Alex Borstein. Seth MacFarlane, the creator of "Family Guy," requested Borstein to speed up and raise the pitch of Lois's voice. This change contributed to the more upbeat voice we recognize in later seasons. Borstein's portrayal of Lois has been consistent since the show's inception, with the character first appearing in the episode "Death Has a Shadow." Although Lois was initially portrayed as a typical television wife and mother, her voice shift represents the character's evolution alongside the show's broader changes.

Borstein's work extends beyond just Lois; she has a diverse career in improv and stand-up. The animated series, despite facing numerous cancellations, has become a staple of television, reaching significant milestones like its 250th episode. Alongside Lois, other characters, including Brian and Peter Griffin, have undergone noticeable voice changes over the years, affecting viewers' experiences with the show.

Critics argue that these changes, along with character developments, have diluted some of the original charm of "Family Guy," leaving newer portrayals feeling less authentic or impactful. Ultimately, Lois remains an iconic character, continuously evolving with the series.

  • Okay. Ima be that guy. This song sucks. It promotes vandalism, criminal activities, and sexism. Here’s how. First, from a mental health standpoint. Destruction while cathartic, is an unhealthy vice that usually isn’t monetarily or emotionally worth the effort of doing. Go to a therapist. Second: How does this song promote sexism? Well for starters it furthers the stereotype that women are more emotionally unstable then men, going out of their way and far beyond the original damage dealt through escalation. Not only that but the song is making us feel that the damage done is alright because A: it was a man who cheated and B: It’s a woman doing the destruction. This makes the woman out to be the hero and the man to be the villain. While the man is not a saint, and by all accounts a dick. He isn’t the person who went and destroyed a car because he thought his girl was cheating on him. Which is another harmful stereotype, she doesn’t know FOR SURE that the guy cheated on her. She “bets he’s got a girl hanging on his arm”, no where in the song does it actually say he’s cheating, all of this is done on an emotionally charged assumption. Which further demeans a woman’s character despite what she’s doing being viewed as “strong” and “independent”. The whole song is an ode to a criminal and juvenile reaction to something that doesn’t especially have legal recourse. Which segues into my next point. Third: What she’s doing is a criminal act of vandalism that could be anywhere from 10K in damages to 60K depending on the value of the car.
