The Department of Civil Registration and Census (DCRC) and Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan Limited (RICBL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide citizens with the ability to generate their own household information (family tree) through the G2C website using the National Data Infrastructure (NDI App). This new feature aims to provide convenient access to birth, death, processing of citizenship identity cards, census transfers, name change, issuance of nationality certificates for minors, and offline services such as name change and correction of DoB.
The online service is provided through the G2C web portal, while offline services include judicial service and marriage certificate application forms. Although village records exist, few birth and death records are created. Polygamy and polyandry are legal in Bhutan, but they are not available online.
To obtain household information, citizens can use the Geneanet app, which allows them to search for names of their ancestors and entire families in a database of 9 billion individuals. They can also edit, sign, and share their Bhutan census family tree online. To do so, users must sign up for DocHub, download CocoDoc software from the Windows Store, and drag and drop PDF documents from Google or other sources.
The online appointment system will be open from 8 PM today for April 6, 2022. The app offers several ways to browse the family tree, including the Tree View, which graphically shows the relationship of selected persons to their kin, and the Family View, which shows the person you have edited.

What Is The Tree Policy In Bhutan?
Bhutan's Constitution mandates that a minimum of 60 percent of its land remains forested, a commitment that the country has successfully upheld, achieving over 74 percent forest coverage. This makes Bhutan one of the leading countries in Asia regarding forest protection, with more than half of its territory designated as protected forests. Bhutan's forests range from subtropical in the south to dry alpine scrub in the north, contributing significantly to biodiversity and ecological health.
Recent political changes, transitioning from monarchy to democracy, impact forest governance and management strategies, including the decentralization of forest management practices. The National Forest Policy, framed amid these changes, emphasizes sustainable forestry and community-based management to address land use conflicts. One example is the De-suung National Service's "A Million Fruit Tree Plantation Project," which aims to plant 200 to 300 trees per acre over the next five years, enhancing both environmental sustainability and social welfare.
Additionally, strict regulations govern the harvesting of timber from state lands to ensure conservation. Bhutan's innovative approaches to forest management reflect its commitment to producing social, economic, and environmental benefits while maintaining robust forest cover for future generations, contributing to the country’s carbon-negative status.
