How To Give Your Family Access To Your Icloud Music Library?

5.0 rating based on 128 ratings

Family Sharing is a feature that allows up to six people to share access to Apple services like Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple News+, Apple Arcade, and Apple Card. This feature also allows users to share iTunes, Apple Books, and other content. However, it does not provide access to the main account’s content.

To set up Family Sharing on your iPhone or iPad, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Music app on your Mac and select Account > Manage Family.
  2. Follow the onscreen instructions to manage sharing and parental settings in Family.
  3. Your uploaded music cannot be shared with others. Your wife will have to upload the same music to her own iCloud Music Library.
  4. On your laptop, open the Apple Menu and click on System Preferences. Click Family Sharing.
  5. Click the + sign at the bottom of the Family list.

The answer is no. Apple’s Family Sharing is limited to iTunes purchases (music, movies, TV, books). It does not provide access to the main account’s content. To set up Family Sharing on Apple Music, switch to the Family Plan, which costs $15 a month, up from the $10 for the individual.

  1. Tap on “Account” and choose “Family Sharing”.
  2. Within the “For You” tab, tap on the “Account” icon.
  3. In Yes, merge and dedupe the libraries for you, your wife, and eldest, and then use the home sharing option to make access to that library available to all three of you.

Is ICloud Required For Family Sharing?

Family Sharing is a feature that allows families to share Apple services and purchases without sharing Apple IDs. To set it up, members need personal Apple IDs signed in to iCloud. It supports sharing music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books on up to 10 devices per account (with a maximum of 5 being computers). To participate, devices must run iOS 8 or later and OS X Yosemite or later. Family Sharing enables up to six family members to share subscriptions, including iCloud+, Apple Music, Apple TV+, and more.

Members can share an iCloud+ subscription with shared storage options of 50GB, 200GB, or 2TB, allowing shared access to photos without sharing storage amounts individually. A minimum of a 200GB storage plan is needed for sharing.

While Family Sharing facilitates sharing of various content and subscriptions, it does not automatically share content on individual devices; users can choose what to share. Family Sharing also allows shared calendars and photo albums, providing a seamless way to stay connected within family groups. With Family Sharing, Apple enhances family connectivity while maintaining individual privacy through separate Apple accounts. Points to note include system requirements and the ability to manage shared purchases effectively.

To share your music library across devices, start by selecting "Share media with guests" in your Mac's System Settings under General and Sharing. To share an Apple Music playlist on an iPhone or iPad, open the Apple Music app, tap on the Library icon, select Playlists, choose your desired playlist, and use the share button to send it via iMessage, AirDrop, or Email. To share music, you can send individual songs, albums, or playlists via email, or generate a link to share online. SharePlay enables listeners to enjoy your selections together. While you cannot share your entire library directly, creating a comprehensive playlist is an alternative method to grant access to your collection.

Why Is Apple Music Not Working With Family Sharing

Why Is Apple Music Not Working With Family Sharing?

To resolve issues with Apple Music Family Sharing, confirm that you and your family members are using the same Apple ID for Family Sharing and Media and Purchases, and ensure purchase sharing is enabled. Family members should check their settings by navigating to Settings > Family, tapping their names, and noting the Apple ID listed. If Apple Music isn’t functioning properly, a common solution is to sign out of "Media and Purchases" and then sign back in, specifically on the device experiencing difficulty.

For continued issues, check if the subscriptions are correctly set up and ensure everyone is on the Apple Music Family plan, as individual plans don’t qualify for sharing. You can also verify that all necessary services are enabled in Family Sharing settings, as some apps and services may not be shareable. Additionally, verify that all family members are in the same region, as differing locations can prevent sharing of certain subscriptions. If problems persist, restart the device as a minor glitch might be to blame. Lastly, reach out to Apple Support for further assistance if the issue remains unresolved despite following these steps.

What Happens If You Share ICloud+ With A Family Member?

When you share iCloud+ with your family, all members gain access to its features and storage while maintaining individual accounts. Your photos and documents remain private, as the storage is pooled but not personal files. You can opt for various storage capacities—50 GB, 200 GB, 2 TB, etc.—ensuring ample space for everyone's needs. Family members utilizing a free 5 GB plan are automatically added to the shared storage. If someone already subscribes to a larger plan, they can choose to transition to the shared one or keep their existing plan.

This setup allows up to six family members to enjoy a single iCloud+ subscription, alongside other Apple services like Apple Music, Apple TV+, and App Store purchases, under the Family Sharing umbrella. Functions like Hide My Email, iCloud Private Relay, and Custom Email Domain are accessible to all. It's important to note that when transitioning to a shared plan, the original individual plan becomes inaccessible, but refunds are issued for any unused portions.

Family Sharing is designed to avoid sharing personal information among members, ensuring all data stays secure while facilitating shared access to iCloud storage and services. Ultimately, Family Sharing proves a cost-effective and efficient way for families to enjoy a variety of Apple offerings.
