In “The Former Life of Brian”, the sixth episode of the animated comedy series Family Guy, Brian discovers he has fathered a son with his ex-girlfriend Tracy Flannigan. Brian left Tracy before Dylan was born, leaving him without knowledge of what it’s like to have a father. When he visits Tracy, she becomes a fat slob. Repulsed, Brian decides to leave, but Tracy insists he stay after revealing that she has a son named Dylan and that he is the father. Dylan proves to be quite the unruly teenager.
In this episode, Brian’s human son, Dylan, returns, now a teen TV star. Instead of being a good father to his estranged son, Brian uses his son’s television connections to further his own. Stewie encourages him to reconnect with her, leading to the main plot about Brian finding out he has a son.
“Life of Brian” is the sixth episode of the twelfth season and the 216th overall episode of the animated comedy series Family Guy. It aired on Fox in the United States on November 24, 2013. Written by Alex Carter and directed by, the episode follows Brian as he gets a call from his long-lost son Dylan, who asks to reconnect with him. Brian is hesitant to have anything to do with his son, but when he finds out that he’s on a show, he leaves the house as quickly as possible.
In “Brian’s a Bad Father”, Brian uses his son’s fame to get a writing job for a TV show, and Quagmire stops being friends with Peter after he accidentally shoots him. Dylan Mitzak is the son of Brian and Tracy Flannigan, introduced in “The Former Life of Brian”.

Question: Why is it that a dog and a human had a child, and that child turned out to be completely human as opposed to a half-human/half-dog hybrid like it would normally happen in 99% of situations of crossbreeding, and even Stewie and Brian’s kids in “Stewie is Enceinte” are hybrids of human and dogs and yet Dylan is entirely human?
Theory: Dylan Flannigan is not Brian’s son. • When he “had kids” with Stewie, they came out as human-puppy hybrids, so if he were to have gotten Tracy pregnant, Dylan, too would’ve been a human-dog hybrid. • Brian had previously mentioned in “Road to Rhode Island” that he cannot put a seed in the farmers daughter’s belly because he is of a different species.
