Could You Provide A Link To Another Ancestry Family Tree?

3.5 rating based on 44 ratings

Connecting a public family tree to your AncestryDNA® results can help you discover how you’re related to your DNA matches (if they have matches turned on). A DNA test’s owners, collaborators, and managers can link it to a tree. Only one tree can be linked to a test at a time. To view a shared tree, your friends and family will need an Ancestry® account. If they don’t already have an account, they can create a free guest account. Merging family trees on ancestry will help amalgamate all the information you have and give you a more integrated view of your family history.

To link your DNA test results to your family tree at Ancestry, click the DNA tab and select DNA Matches. Click on the name/username of a match in your tree and click Connect to tree. In the opened side panel, enter the name/username of a match in your tree. In the top-right corner of their profile page, click Tools and select Member connect. You’ll see a list of people who have a shared family tree.

Ancestry has added a new feature to Family Tree sharing options to make it easier than ever to invite friends and family to collaborate. To share your family tree with others, navigate to the tree you would like to share, and click “Invite” in the top-right corner. Share your DNA results with the owner of the tree and have them link the tree, or have the tree owner share their tree with you as an editor. You don’t need to “link”, just ask her to send you an invitation to her tree.

Ancestry allows users to create one or more family trees that can be public or private while Family Search uses a shared tree. In Family Discover, other Ancestry® members who are researching people in your family tree can use member connect to collaborate on your family tree research. To link your DNA results to a family tree, click the dropdown menu and choose an existing tree or select + Start tree to create a new one.
