This video demonstrates the process of migrating data from Family Tree Maker to Family Tree Heritage using MyHeritage’s FamilyTree Builder software. The process is simple and requires downloading or saving your family tree as a GEDCOM file from your current service, and then uploading it to MyHeritage. If you already have a church account with MyHeritage, you can sign in via FS and go to the menu in MyHeritage, click “family tree”, and click “Export”.
To export your data files from Family Tree Maker into Family Tree Heritage, follow these steps:
- Open Family Tree Maker® on your computer.
- In the upper menu bar, click on the “File” menu and select “Export”.
- In the window that opens, click on the “Export” button.
- Download or save your family tree as a GEDCOM file from your current service and upload it to MyHeritage.
- If you already have a MyHeritage account, log in and select “Import GEDCOM” on the “Family tree” menu. Click “Upload” and select the. ged file.
MyHeritage’s proprietary software, Family Tree Builder (FTB), will import FTM. You can export a Gedcom file from My Heritage package and then upload it to Ancestry.

After transferring the information from your online tree to FamilyTree Builder, you can export a GEDCOM file if you want to move it. It is better to use the Export Gedcom File plugin rather than the FH v7 GEDCOM if you want face frames and preferred media to be correctly migrated.
