Can I Get Genie Plus For My Loved Ones?

3.5 rating based on 121 ratings

To purchase Genie Plus or Lightning Lane attractions at Disney, you need to have a park reservation for that day. To do this, log in to your Disney account, select the person you want to buy it for, and follow the prompts. If you have a group of friends or family members planning to visit a Disney theme park together, you can purchase Genie+ for each of them. Disney employs a date-based pricing system, meaning the cost may vary depending on the day.

You can add or remove people from Lightning Lane as long as each person has paid for Genie+. You can do so on the day of your park visit, starting at 12 a. m. ET. Once the day changes, you can begin purchasing Genie+. You can also book a Genie+ reservation for multiple people, as long as they’re all connected to you via your Family and Friends list and have purchased Genie+ on their behalf.

To make Genie+ or Lightning Lane reservations with a group, you can easily select eligible members from your Family and Friends list in the My Disney Experience app. Walt Disney World hotel guests can purchase Genie+ and book their first Lightning Lane ride at 7AM, while individual Lightning Lanes can be purchased. If you want to buy Genie+ for a single day, you can purchase it on the day of your visit beginning at midnight.

To use Lightning Lane Multi Pass (formerly Genie+), you must have a smartphone. If none of the guests are able to select eligible Genie+ people from their Family and Friends list in the My Disney Experience app when making Genie+ (and Lightning Lane) reservations, you will need to pay for it.

Do You Have To Buy Genie Plus For Everyone In Your Group On Reddit?

Disney Genie+ operates on a per-person basis, meaning each person in your group aged two and older must purchase their own Genie+ to access Lightning Lanes. During the purchase process, you can buy it for everyone collectively at midnight, or each adult can buy their own. However, one person cannot buy it for the entire group to use. The My Disney Experience app allows you to link with friends and family, making it easier to manage ride selections.

While some parks like Animal Kingdom and Epcot may feel less necessary for Genie+, it ultimately depends on your group's preferences and age dynamics. If you’re a family aiming to enjoy multiple attractions in a day and have the budget for it, investing in Genie+ could provide significant value.

You can purchase Genie+ as a single-park or multi-park option at varying price points, and it’s recommended to buy it early in the day for maximum benefit. Once obtained, make reservations strategically, ideally booking another ride as soon as you scan into one.

It’s important to note that while Genie+ can enhance your visit by minimizing wait times, not everyone requires a MagicBand, as Genie+ can function across devices, provided all members are linked in the app. Overall, while purchasing Genie+ is not mandatory for the Individual Lightning Lane selections, it is beneficial for large groups looking to enjoy the attractions efficiently.

Can I Purchase Genie+ For A Single Day?

Before recent updates, guests could buy Genie+ for the entire day, but now they must choose between a single park option or a Multiple Parks selection for park hopping. Genie+ can still be purchased for just one day, providing flexibility for short visits, especially on busy days when lines are long. However, prices have seen significant increases since Disney introduced park-specific pricing in 2021.

With Genie+, you can’t use it more than once per ride daily. It is available for purchase starting at midnight on the day of your visit via the Disney app, allowing immediate access to features when the park opens. While multi-day ticket holders can get Genie+ for their entire stay, the service cannot be added to Annual Passes or any ticket type in advance. It must be purchased daily, subject to availability.

Prices for Genie+ change frequently, ranging from $15 to $39, with costs rising during peak days. No incentive exists for early purchases, and inclement weather might reduce park attendance, making same-day buying more appealing. Following updates as of June 8, 2022, all guests must buy Genie+ service daily. Those planning to visit for just one day will find the flexibility of single-day purchases essential. To access the service, direct purchases through the app upon arrival at the park are now the standard procedure.

Is It Possible To Buy Genie+ At Disney World?

In the past, Disney World allowed guests to purchase Genie+ in advance but required it for their entire vacation, which was not advisable. Now, Genie+ can only be bought day-of, starting at midnight, with fluctuating prices. It provides access to Lightning Lanes for over 40 rides, enabling guests to skip standby lines. Notably, some attractions offer Lightning Lane access only through Individual Lightning Lane purchases. At Disney World, Genie+ prices typically begin at $15 per day, while at Disneyland, prices start at $25.

Since June 27, 2023, Disney World has park-specific Genie+ pricing, allowing guests to choose single-park or multiple-parks options. Guests can conveniently purchase Genie+ via the My Disney Experience app starting at midnight on the day of their visit. After purchasing, guests can begin reserving Lightning Lane selections at 7:00 AM. This service aims to enhance the overall park experience, especially for families, but the cumulative cost can be significant.

With the introduction of variable date-based pricing in October 2022, guests are encouraged to purchase Genie+ promptly on the day of their visit to maximize their enjoyment of attractions. Overall, Genie+ has evolved to optimize the Disney World experience while adapting to guests' needs.

Can I Use Genie+ In Multiple Parks

Can I Use Genie+ In Multiple Parks?

Yes, Genie+ can be utilized across multiple parks with the "Multiple Parks" option, functioning like the regular Genie+ for those with a valid Park Hopper. As of June 27, 2023, Disney World implemented park-specific pricing for Genie+, allowing guests to choose between a single-park or multi-park option. When purchasing through the My Disney Experience app, guests must select whether to buy Genie+ for just one park or for multiple parks. Those opting for multiple parks can make Genie+ reservations at any park they visit on the same day.

However, guests are not required to use Genie+ and can still enjoy attractions via standby lines for free. Genie+ can be acquired through the My Disney Experience or Disneyland apps. It's crucial to note that purchasing the multi-park option may be pricier compared to single-park access. Guests must indicate their park hopping plans under the "My Day" tab to receive tailored recommendations. Furthermore, while guests can hold several Genie+ reservations at once by applying the 120 Minute Rule, they can reserve rides in any park even if they are not physically present there. Overall, Genie+ significantly enhances the park experience, particularly for those who prefer to visit multiple parks in one day.

What Are The Changes To Genie Plus In 2024?

A significant change is coming to Disney's skip-the-line services on July 24, 2024, as the Disney Genie+ system will be rebranded. The current "Genie+" will be renamed "Lightning Lane Multi Pass," and "Individual Lightning Lane" will become "Lightning Lane Single Pass." This new naming simplifies the offerings at Walt Disney World. The Lightning Lane Multi Pass will still allow guests to book advance reservations for shorter lines, functioning as the paid option to skip lines, while the Lightning Lane Single Pass will pertain to individual rides.

These changes mark the end of the Genie+ system, which has been in place since 2021. The updates aim to enhance guest experience by providing clearer terminology and streamlined options for line-skipping services. Ultimately, these modifications reflect Disney's ongoing efforts to evolve its services for park visitors, ensuring they have a better understanding of their choices when planning their visits to the parks. Starting July 24, 2024, the new systems will officially take effect.

How To Book Lightning Lane For Multiple People?

To purchase Lightning Lane Passes in the My Disney Experience App, first navigate to the Lightning Lane section and select "Purchase." Choose your desired date and theme park, then check off the individuals for whom you’re booking passes. On-site guests can book Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass 7 days in advance, while others can do so 3 days prior. On the day your window opens, use the app to make your selections. The Lightning Lane Multi-Pass allows you to reserve three rides in advance and choose arrival times.

Guests with date-based tickets can start purchasing passes at 7 a. m. Eastern on the third day before their ticket begins. The maximum number of guests for a single Lightning Lane experience is 20; larger groups must split up. You can book passes for multiple days in one go, and it's possible to manage which group members want to ride specific attractions. If everyone is linked in your Family and Friends list, you can seamlessly book passes for them. You can only book one Lightning Lane per ride per person each day.

Can I Purchase Genie+ Plus For Friends And Family?

One person can buy Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane (ILL) for every eligible member linked to their My Disney Experience account. While you can make Lightning Lane reservations for your entire party, all individuals must purchase Genie+ or ILL to use the service. To add friends or family, ensure that your Disney accounts are linked through the Family and Friends list. You can purchase Genie+ for someone else, making it easier if the tickets are bought together.

You can add or remove people from Lightning Lane reservations as long as everyone has paid for Genie+. Genie+ is available for purchase in the My Disney Experience app, either as an add-on to tickets or vacation packages for the entire stay. Members of your party must have valid admission and be linked within the app. Purchases for Genie+ can occur starting at midnight on the visit day, and either one account can handle the payment for the group or families can buy separately. It’s advisable to link with your travel companions early for seamless Lightning Lane access during your visit.

Can You Use Genie Plus For Multiple People?

Unfortunately, groups of more than 10 cannot make selections within the same app. However, by organizing and appointing two individuals to manage selections, you can efficiently navigate the system if linked through the Family and Friends list. At 7 AM, caution is advised as demand peaks. While you can have multiple Genie+ Lightning Lane reservations, the "Genie 120-minute rule" permits new reservations only after two hours have passed since the last one.

Genie+ services accommodate multiple people, allowing reservations for up to 12 as long as they are connected in "My Family and Friends" on the My Disney Experience app. Although you can log into the same account on different devices, booking for different attractions simultaneously is prohibited. One person in your party can manage all selections if everyone is linked within the app. The system now features park-specific Genie+ pricing as of June 27, 2023, offering single-park or multi-park options.

For mixed ride preferences among a group, thoughtful planning is recommended, but linking through Family and Friends is essential for smooth booking. Despite limits, managing Genie+ for groups is feasible with the right approach.

  • Oh my gosh…Disneyland has become SO confusing!! My kids & I planned to go last year, but didn’t because I got too overwhelmed just buying the tickets!! Lol I promised we’d go the following year, so we’re going in a few days, for the first time in over a decade, & a LOT has changed!! I purchased genie + for all of us, but still not quite sure how it all works…(& what’s a photo pass)…even after perusal multiple “research” articles. I’m still a little confused about the genie + & individual lightning lane options….& I just now learned about the competitive virtual queue. 😩 I don’t remember, or know what all the rides are, (or what they serve at the different restaurants) …so it’s hard to know what to choose right when we step foot in the park. The app & all the new virtual stuff definitely add some convenience, but can also make it much more overwhelming for someone like me. Plus, we used to go for 2 days…we’d stay at the Disneyland hotel & add park hopper ability to our tickets…but with the prices being so much higher now, we’re staying somewhere else this time, & only going for 1 day…& just Disney. 1 day adds so much more pressure to get it right for my kiddos. I highly appreciate the articles you & others make to try & make it less overwhelming. They really do help. Hopefully it won’t be as overwhelming as it seems once we get there. 🤞🏼

  • Very helpful! Thank you for posting! Can you clarify if you can make an individual lightning lane purchase, without purchasing Genie Plus? Or will you have to purchase Genie Plus and then additionally the Individual? I’m trying to see which is the most cost effective, if it’s possible to just make an individual purchase, and what that range is compared to the whole genie plus purchase. Thanks!

  • Alma, excellent article . Can you please answer one question- Can I have both Genie Plus and Individual Lighting lane in parallel? meaning, let us say I book Genie plus for one ride and it is 540 pm, if I see Lightning lane available at 340pm, can I book lightning lane or I need to wait for 2 hrs window and/or finish 540 pm ride ? Thanks for your help !!!!

  • Question!! I’m going with a group of people: myself, my mom, my sister, and my nieces (ages 5 and 2). Do each one of us have to pay for genie+ to get on the rides quicker? Or can I be the only one to purchase it, and just add them to my party? Also, how does it work for kids who don’t have smartphones and therefore can’t get any apps? Thank you for your help!!!

  • I miss the days of just being able to buy a ticket and wait in line. Simple. All this other b.s. just seems like added bonuses to the park not the consumer. You spend more money (up to an extra $22) to ensure you get to go rides, leaves not much leftover for soveiners. It seems like it would be more advantageous to all parties if it ran on an advanced sales program with set pricing so everyone that attends enjoys everything the park has to offer. Because the way it is now seems unnecessarly complicated. Which cant be good for anyone. We go next month and I’m actually dreading it
