In the Peacock miniseries “A Friend of the Family”, Jake Lacy, Colin Hanks, and Anna Paquin star as the Broberg family. The show follows the true crime drama about the kidnapping of a young girl named Jan Broberg by her father, who was allegedly spotted by a UFO. The story begins when Jan falls asleep in a car on her way to ride horses and wakes up in a mobile home with aliens talking to her directly and a man with physical injuries from fighting aliens.
The local FBI arrives a few days later, discovering Robert’s car with a broken window and blood found at the scene. They learn that Robert has been giving Jan anti-allergy pills since the incident. The show also features a scene where a wife is pleasured by her husband under the sheets, with nothing shown except the wife’s face. Two adult male characters sit in a car as one manually stimulates the other, with no graphic content.
The encounter between the two men in the steamy car is less about sex than it is about power. The story revolves around the Broberg family, whose daughter Jan was kidnapped multiple times over a period of years in the 1970s. After B gives Jan an allergy pill, she nods off in the car and wakes up in a small room, chained to a car. The FBI learns that Robert has been giving Jan anti-allergy pills since the incident.
In the end, the show highlights the power dynamics between the Broberg family and their relationship with their daughter, Jan. The show is set to premiere on Peacock on October 6th.

Where Was A Friend Of The Family Filmed?
"A Friend of the Family" was primarily filmed in the Atlanta metropolitan area, with some scenes shot in Los Angeles, California. Principal photography took place between February and August 2022. The production, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, has been noted for its swift completion, with the first three episodes produced quickly. The miniseries, created by Nick Antosca, features a cast that includes Jake Lacy, Colin Hanks, Lio Tipton, and Anna Paquin, and tells the harrowing true story of the Broberg family, focusing on their daughter Jan, who was kidnapped multiple times in the 1970s.
In 1972, the Brobergs formed a close bond with the Berchtold family at church, which led to a dark series of events involving Jan. The filming locations included Canton City Hall, Georgia, identified as Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. The project has garnered attention following the Netflix documentary "Abducted in Plain Sight," which recounted Jan Broberg's experiences of being abducted by a family friend, Robert Berchtold.
With significant performances from well-known actors like Anna Paquin and Colin Hanks, "A Friend of the Family" aims to share a survivor's story in this compelling true-crime drama produced by Peacock.
What Is A Friend Of The Family?
"A Friend of the Family," produced by Peacock, features a direct-to-camera introduction from Jan Broberg, chronicling her experiences of childhood sexual abuse by a family friend, Robert Berchtold. This American biographical crime drama miniseries draws on true events from the 1970s, where Berchtold committed multiple kidnappings and abuses against Jan Broberg. The miniseries stars Jake Lacy as Berchtold, with Hendrix Yancey and Mckenna Grace portraying Jan at different ages.
The narrative unfolds how the Broberg family, initially close to Berchtold, became victims of his manipulation and grooming tactics after befriending him through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Unlike the documentary "Abducted in Plain Sight," the series delves deeper into the chilling reality of Berchtold’s life, including the fact that he had his own family during his abusive acts.
The show aims to highlight the Broberg family's struggles and the complexities surrounding their situation while shedding light on the recognition of blind spots regarding trust and friendship. The premiere of "A Friend of the Family" sets the stage for the encounters that impacted the Brobergs over several years, portraying the harrowing truth behind their experiences.
When Does A Friend Of The Family Come Out?
"A Friend of the Family," a new true crime drama series, premiered on Peacock on October 6, 2022. On the premiere date, the first three episodes were made available, followed by weekly releases of the remaining six episodes. In the second episode, titled "The Mission," the urgency grows as the Broberg family involves the FBI in the search for Jan, resulting in Jan facing a grave, life-or-death situation. Filmed primarily in metro Atlanta, the production began in February 2022 and was completed swiftly to meet its release date. Originally airing from October 6 to November 10, 2022, "A Friend of the Family" has drawn comparisons to the previously released documentary on the same topic.

📹 A Friend of The Family Jan Broberg’s Kidnapper Gives Her an Unsettling List of Rules
While in police custody, ‘B’ Berchtold (Jake Lacy) gives Jan (Mckenna Grace) a very specific set of rules. B tries to manipulate her …
I’d think that the biggest mistake of his life would be dropping the kidnapping charges on the guy because he threatened to make this information public, which in turn allowed his daughter to get kidnapped a second time, but no, it was this. This guy and his wife cared more about their reputations than they did about their own daughter and it makes me sick. I have absolutely no sympathy for this idiot or his piece of shit wife. I’m just glad the girl is okay now. She was the only one not at fault throughout this whole thing and she suffered by far the most.
SPOILER ALERT! He refers to the handy as the worst thing he’s ever done but meanwhile his wife is getting groped by the kidnapper and has an 8 month affair with him AFTER he kidnapped her 12 year old daughter for several months and married her in mexico. Then she sends her daughter back to him after they finally get her back. Holy shit this was the best mockumentary I’ve ever watched.
I laughed so hard the first time i watched this. But looking back at it, B planned every event so well, from this encounter, to the interactions with his wife and the affair. For the longest time the parents cared more about their reputation and not about the safety of their daughter. I am glad that everything was ok at the end. I will be honest, i still giggle when this part shows.
Worst thing is that the pedo was probably aroused by the thought of this guy’s daughter while he have him “relief”. He literally had his way with mother, father and daughter. Most disguting history I ever read or watched, I’m quite surprised because I don’t know if the guy was that charming or if he just found a very stupid family
Their indoctrination of their “narrow-minded” religion is partly to blame. They both were weak-minded. Berchtold had sex with him, his daughter and wife, JEeze!!!!! The only ones left were the other 2 daughters and the dogs. And no wonder Jan bought the BS story likely because of the Mormon cosmology angle in their fictional book.
Watch the documentary on Netflix and is late but I had to read peoples comments and People talking about how idiot the parents acted during that time and is true is completely dumb and stupid but what’s more dumb and stupid is all the people involved in this nightmare. Starting from the parents to the sorry brother that had the guts to help him when he came back from Mexico and also having the guts to tell her parents that he wants to married her. Not mentioning the stupid school on the second kidnapping believing the crap that he said. And last the police and the judged letting this man go free and live a happy life after all he did. It’s crazy how your supposed to trust the justice system but is trash. If she was my daughter I would have poison him myself.
I spent the first episode yelling, “WTF!” every time I had to shake my head in disbelief. Just when you thought this family couldn’t be any more gullible…..they topped the previous “WTF” moment with another “WTF” moment. Robert Berchtold nailed the 12 year old daughter, the Mom and the Dad jacked him off. He spared the other family members….not sure about the family pets?
What pisses me me off more than anything is how dumb you all are to call the parents stupid for not knowing. They 1000% knew. They let it happen because the Daughter was groomed to be a “willing” participant and they didn’t consider it as pedophilia. I mean come on. How can they not know what is going on while allowing a grown ass man to sleep with their 12 year old daughter a few nights a week for his supposed “treatment of past abuse”. I think they were aware of what was going on. When the FBI got involved they signed the letter absolving The kidnapper, not because he was going to spill the beans on their infidelity but because he was going to incriminate them by telling the courts that they knew all about it. He probably had evidence to support these claims. These disgusting people saw an opportunity to make some money from their story after all these years and have changed certain aspects of it to make themselves look better.
